それゆえ、あなたがたはわたしを信じるならば、今日と呼ばれるうちに働くであろう。教義と聖約６４：２５
Wherefore, if ye believe me, ye will labor while it is called today. Doctrine & Covenants 64:25
This short and simple scripture has an important message for us. It is a very clear reminder of what we should be doing in this life.
この短く簡潔な聖句には私たちにとって大切な教えが含まれています。私たちがこの世でなすべき事は何なのかはっきりと教えています。
It is the same message that was given by Amulek in the 34thchapter of Alma, when he said, “behold, the day of this life is the day for men to perform their labors.”
アミュレクがアルマ書34章で同じメッセージを教えています。「まことに現世の生涯は、人が各自の務めを果す時期である」と。
We are each given a period of time to be here on earth. It may only be for a few minutes, or it may be for many, many years. We are not told and we do not know how long we will be allowed to stay here.
私たちは各自決まった期間をこの世で与えられています。ほんの数分であったり、多くの年月であるかもしれません。私たちはこの世にどれ程滞在出来るのか教えられることや、知る事もありません。
In this scripture, we are taught that this life is short. It is only in this life that we can do those things that will allow us to be happy in the next life. As long as this life may seem at times, it is only a brief moment when compared with the eternities.
この聖句からこの世が短いことを教っています。次の世の幸せのために出来ることはこの世にいる間しか出来ないのです。時にはこの世がとても長く見えることもありますが、永遠に比べるとこの世はほんの一瞬のことなのです。
Our ultimate happiness in eternity is dependent upon our faithfulness and our works in this life. We are taught that we will be judged according to our works. If our works have been good, we will receive all the promised blessings. We will be able to live with our Heavenly Father again. We will be able to live with our own families for eternity.
私たちの永遠における究極の幸せはこの世での忠実さと働きに懸かっています。私たちは自己の働きにより裁かれると教わっています。もし行いがよければ、約束されたすべての祝福を受けるでしょう。私たちは天父と再び共に暮らすことが出来、私たちの家族と共に永遠に暮らすことが出来るでしょう。
But that reward only comes to those who keep the commandments. It only comes to those who serve. It only comes to those who “labor”.
しかしその報いは戒めを守る者にのみやってくるのです。（神や他人に）仕える者や、「務めを果す」者にのみやってくるのです。
Our duty in this life is to “labor”. What does that mean?
この世での私たちの務めは「務めを果す」ことです。ではそれはどういうことでしょう？
In English, “to labor” means to work hard.
英語で「to labor」とは一生懸命、熱心に働くということです。
As we are taught in Section 58, verse 27 of the Doctrine and Covenants, it means we need to be “anxiously engaged in a good cause”. It means we need to do “many things of our own free will”. It means we need to bring to pass much righteousness.”
教義と聖約の５８章２７節で教わっているように、それは「熱心に善いことに携わる」べきだということです。「多くのことをその自由意志によって行ない」、「義にかなう多くのことを成し遂げ」なければならないということです。
It does not mean that we have to be the Bishop, or the Relief Society President, or the High Priests Group Leader. Rather, it means we need to do as much as we can with the talents the Lord has blessed us with.
それはビショップや扶助協会の会長、大祭司グループのリーダーに成らなければいけないということではありません。むしろ主が祝福してくださった才能を使って出来る限りのことを行うべきだということです。
It means we need to serve in our callings. It means that we need to look for opportunities to serve others. It means that we should not wait until we are given an assignment before we do anything. It means that we should do our best to help others in any way that we can.
それは自分が受けている召しを尽くさねばならないと言うことです。他の誰かに仕える機会を探さねばならないと言うことです。召しや責任を受けるのを待っているのでなく自分から行動することです。それは出来る限りの方法で他の誰かを最善を尽くして手助けすべきだということです。
If we believe in Jesus Christ, we must do our best to help his work move forward. If we believe in Jesus Christ, we must serve others. If we believe in Jesus Christ, we must “labor while it is yet called today”.
私たちはイエス・キリストを信じているなら、主の業が前進するよう最善を尽くしてお手伝いしなければなりません。イエス・キリストを信じているなら、他の誰かに仕えるべきです。私たちはイエス・キリストを信じているなら、「まだ今日と呼ばれるうちに働く」べきなのです。
I know that these things are true. I know that we have a duty to follow the example of our Savior Jesus Christ. I know that we can only be happy in this life and in eternity if we use our time in this life wisely.
これらが真実だと私は知っています。私たちは救い主イエス・キリストの模範に従う務めがあると知っています。この世で時間を賢く使うことで、この世と来る世で幸せになれることを私は知っています。
Let’s try harder this week to “labor while it is yet called today”. Let’s try harder to accept assignments to serve. Let’s try harder to be better followers of the Lord.
今週「まだ今日と呼ばれるうちに働く」よう努力しましょう。仕えるという任務を頑張って受け入れましょう。主のより良い従者となるよう頑張りましょう。
