さて見よ、教会の同胞よ、わたしはあなたがたに尋ねる。あなたがたは霊的に神から生まれているか。あなたがたの顔に神の面影を受けているか。あなたがたは心の中に、この大きな変化を経験したか。

さて見よ、わたしの同胞よ、わたしはあなたがたに言う。もしあなたがたが心の変化を経験してるであれば、また、贖いをもたらす愛の歌を歌おうと感じたことがあるのであれば、今でもそのように感じられるか尋ねたい。アルマ書５：１４，２６

And how behold, I ask of you, my brethren of the Church, have ye spiritually been born of God?  Have ye received his image in your countenances?  Have ye experienced this might change of heart?  … And now behold, I say unto you, my brethren, if ye have experienced a change of heart, and if ye have felt to sing the song of redeeming love, I would ask you, can ye feel so now?  Alma 5: 14, 26

In this scripture, Alma teaches us about our duty to be obedient and to keep the commandments.  He teaches us that conversion is not just something that happens one time.  It is somethingthat we need to keep for our entire life.

この聖句で、アルマは従順と戒めを守るという私達の義務について教えています。彼は改宗はたった一度のことではないと教えています。一生を通して続ける必要のあることなのです。

Alma is talking to the members of the Church in this scripture.   He is talking to us.  

アルマはこの聖句を通して教会の会員、すなわち私たちに語りかけています。

His first question is have we been truly converted to the gospel of Jesus Christ?  We have all been baptized and have received the gift of the Holy Ghost.  But did we really make the changes to our lives that we need?  Did we really become “spiritually born of God”?

彼の最初の質問は私たちがイエスキリストの福音に真に改宗しているかということです。私たちは皆バプテスマを受け聖霊の賜物を受けています。しかし私たちは本当に求められているように生活を変えているでしょうか？私たちは本当に「霊的に神から生まれ」ているでしょうか？

If we keep the commandments and if we are obedient, we will be “spiritually born of God”.  That promise is for every person who repents and is baptized.

もし戒めを守り従順であれば私たちは「霊的に神から生まれ」るのです。その約束は悔い改め、バプテスマを受けたすべての人のためにあります。

But after we are baptized, we still have much to do.

しかし私たちはバプテスマを受けた後も更に多くのすべきことがあります。

Alma asks the members if they still feel that same spirit and change of heart.  

アルマは教会員に今でも同じように霊と心の変化を感じているかと尋ねています。

It is not enough just to repent one time.  Our path to salvation requires us to be obedient every day of our lives.  It requires us to work hard each day to “change our hearts”.  It requires us to continue to repent and to grow.

一度悔い改めるだけでは十分ではありません。救いへの道は人生を通して毎日従順であることを求められます。毎日改心するため一生懸命頑張ることが求められます。続けて悔い改めと成長することが求められます。

We have the promise that we will feel Heavenly Father’s great love for us if we do these things.  

私たちはもしこれらのことをするならば、天父の偉大な愛を感じるという約束を受けています。

It takes daily effort.  It takes daily repentance.  It takes daily prayer.

毎日の努力、毎日を悔い改め、毎日の祈りが必要です。

I know that these things are true.  I know that we can feel Heavenly Father’s love for us.  I know that we will receive all the promised blessings if we are obedient.

これらの事が真実だと知っています。天父の私たちの愛を感じることが出来ると知っています。従順であれば約束されたすべての祝福を受けると知っています。

Let’s all work hard this week to be “spiritually born of God”.  I know that we can do this.  I know that this is true.

今週も「霊的に神から生まれる」よう一生懸命頑張りましょう。私たちにはそれが出来ると知っています。そしてそれが真実だと知っています。
