あなたが見ておられたとき、一つの石が人手によらずに切り出されて、その像の鉄と粘土との足を撃ち、これを砕きました。。。それらの王たちの世に、天の神は一つの国を立てられます。これはいつまでも滅びることがなく、その主権は他の民にわたされず、かえってこれらのもろもろの国を打ち破って滅ぼすでしょう。そしてこの国は立って永遠に至るのです。ダニエル２：３４、４４

Thou sawest till that a stone was cut out without hands, which smote the image upon his feet there were of iron and clay and broke them to pieces…  And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand forever.  Daniel 2:34,44

The book of Daniel contains some of the most famous stories in all of the Old Testament.  

ダニエル書には、旧約聖書の中で最も有名な物語がいくつか含まれています。

In this book, we learn about Daniel and his companions, who were taken as captives from Jerusalem to Babylon.  They refused to eat the rich food and to drink the wine that the king gave them.  They asked for simple grain-based food to eat and water to drink.  At the end of the time, they were healthier and stronger than all those who ate the king’s food and drank the king’s wine.

この書では、エルサレムからバビロンに捕囚されたダニエルとその仲間について学びます。彼らは贅沢な食物を食べることや、王が与えるぶどう酒を飲むことを拒みました。彼らは、穀物でできた簡単な食べ物と飲み水を要求しました。結局、彼らは王の食べ物を食べ、王のぶどう酒を飲んだ者よりも健康で強くなりました。

We learn about Daniel, who, with the help of the Lord, interpreted the dream of king Nebuchadnezzar.  The king dreamed of a giant statue, part of gold, part of silver, part of iron, and part of clay.  Daniel taught the king that this was a vision given to him by the Lord, showing what would happen in later times.

主の助けを借りて、ネブカデネザル王の夢を解き明かしたダニエルについて学びます。王は、金、銀、鉄、粘土でできた巨大な像を夢で見ました。ダニエルは王に、これは主から与えられた啓示であり、後に何が起こるかを示していると教えました。

We read about the three companions of Daniel who refused to bow down to the giant idol that king Nebuchadnezzar made.  For this action, they were thrown into a fiery furnace.  But they were all protected by the Lord and came back out of the furnace without being burned.

ネブカデネザル王が作った巨大な偶像にひれ伏すことを拒んだダニエルの3人の仲間について学びます。この行為のために、彼らは燃える炉に投げ込まれました。しかし、彼らは皆、主に守られ、火傷を負うことなく炉から出てきました。

We also read about the faith of Daniel, who, when the king commanded that no one pray, continued his daily prayers.  He was taken and put into a den of lions.  But because of his faith in the Lord, he was protected.

またダニエルの信仰についても学びます。王が誰も祈らないように命じた時でも、彼は毎日祈りを続けました。彼は連れて行かれ、ライオンのいる穴に入れられました。しかし、主への信仰のおかげで、彼は守られました。

It is a difficult choice to choose just one of these events to discuss.  Perhaps the most important message is the prophecy about “a stone cut out without hands” that would go forth and fill the whole earth.  

これらの出来事から ひとつだけ選んで話し合うのは簡単ではありません。おそらく最も重要なメッセージは、「人手によらず切り出された石」が地上全体に満ちるという預言でしょう。

This scripture is a prophecy about the Restoration.  The Restoration of the gospel is the “stone cut without hands”.  In other words, the Restoration did not come because of the work of men.  It did not come from the knowledge of learned men.  It did not come because someone thought it would be a good idea.  The Restoration came by the hand of the Lord.

この聖句は回復に関する預言です。福音の回復は「人手によらず切り出された石」です。言い換えれば、回復は人間の働きによってもたらされたのではありません。それは学者の知識から来たものではありません。誰かが良い考えだと思った結果、出てきたものではありません。回復は主の手によってもたらされました。

In this revelation, it says that the “stone cut without hands” would smash in pieces all the kingdoms of the world.  In other words, the gospel would go forth to all nations.  The gospel will be more powerful than any kingdom on earth.  It will never be destroyed.  It will stand forever. 

この啓示では、「人手によらず切り出された石」は世界のすべての王国を粉々に砕くと述べています。つまり、福音はすべての国に行き渡り、地上のどの王国よりも強力で、決して破壊されることはありません。それは永遠に続くのです。

We are living in the days when this prophecy is being fulfilled.  The Restoration of the gospel, which began with the Prophet Joseph Smith, continues on today.  The small group of just six members has now become a Church of more than 16 million members.  Starting from a small, insignificant farming village, the gospel has grown to fill the whole earth, just as Daniel prophesied.

私たちはこの預言が成就している時代に生きています。預言者ジョセフ・スミスによって始まった福音の回復は今日も続いています。わずか 6 人のメンバーからなる小さなグループが、現在では 1,600 万人を超えるメンバーを擁する教会になりました。ダニエルが預言したように、小さなあまり知られていない農村から始まり、福音は全地を満たすまでに成長しました。

As we go through this next week, let’s remember the great prophecies of the Old Testament.  Let’s remember that all the ancient prophets knew about the Restoration of the gospel in the last days.  Let’s remember that this is all according to the Lord’s plan.  Let’s remember that this is the “small stone cut without hands” that “shall stand forever”.

新しい週が始まります。旧約聖書の偉大な預言を覚えて過ごしましょう。昔の預言者は皆、終わりの日に福音が回復されると知っていたことを心に留め、すべてが主の計画によるものであることを忘れないでください。これが「永遠に至り」「人手によらず切り出された石」であることを覚えていましょう。
