また、あなたがたは何を望めばよいのであろか。見よ、わたしはあなたがに言う。あなたがたは、キリストの贖罪とキリストの復活の力によって永遠の命によみがえることを望まなければならない。あなたがたがキリストを信じることで、約束のとおりこれが果たされるのである。モロナイ７：４１

And what is it that ye shall hope for?  Behold I say unto you that ye shall have hope through the atonement of Christ and the power of the resurrection, to be raised unto life eternal, and this because of your faith in him according to the promise.  Moroni 7:41

In this scripture, Moroni teaches us a very important principle.  

モロナイはこの聖句の中で私たちに大切な原則を教えています。

Many people in this life have given up hope.  They feel their life is meaningless.  They see no purpose in living.

多くの人がこの世に望みを持つことから諦めています。彼らは人生が無意味だと感じ、生きることに何ら目的も見出していません。

But Moroni teaches us that because of the Atonement of Jesus Christ and his resurrection, we should all have hope.  We should have hope in this life, but even more importantly, we should have hope in the promise of eternal life.

しかしモロナイはイエス・キリストの贖いと復活の力により、私たちは皆、望みを持たねばならないと教えています。私たちは人生に望みを持つべきですが、もっと大切なのは永遠の命という約束に望みを持たねばならないということです。

We all know that this life is a time of testing and trials.  This life is difficult.  There are many challenges.  Each of us has many trials in this life.  Our trials may be poor health, or loss of employment, or the death of a loved one, or family members who stray from the gospel, or many other things.

私たちは誰でもこの世が試しと試練の時であると理解しています。この世は困難で多くのチャレンジがあります。私たちの誰もがこの世で多くの試練を経験します。それは健康の問題だったり、失業、愛する者の死、家族の誰かが福音から離れたり、他にも多くあるでしょう。

Without hope, these trials can defeat us.  Without hope, these trials can make the future look dark.  Without hope, these trials can make us feel alone and helpless.

望みが無いと、こうした試練によって私たちは挫折してしまいます。望みが無いと、こうした試練によって将来が真っ暗に見えます。望みが無いと、こうした試練によって自分がどうしようもなく孤独に感じます。

With hope, these trials will still be difficult, but because we understand the purpose of life, we know we can endure the trials.  We know that the Lord will bless us and guide us through our trials.  We know that the promise of the resurrection is sure.  We know that, through the Atonement of Christ, we can return and live with our heavenly family again.

反対に望みがあると、こうした試練はおそらく困難ではありますが人生の目的を理解していることで、試練も耐えられます。私は主が試練の中でも私たちを祝福し導いてくださることを知っています。復活の約束が確かであること、またキリストの贖いを通して私たちは天の家族と再び共に暮らせる日が来ることを私は知っています。

There is nothing more certain in this life than the promise of the resurrection.  Every person who is born into this life, whether they are righteous or wicked, will be resurrected.  Every person who is born will someday die.  Every person who dies will someday be resurrected.  

この世には復活の約束以上に確かなことはありません。この世に生まれてくるものは善人であろうと悪人であろうと誰でも復活するのです。生まれてくる誰もがいつの日か必ず死ぬように、死ぬ者は誰でもいつの日か必ず復活するのです。

It is through the Atonement of our Savior, Jesus Christ, that hope comes to us.  It is through the Atonement of Christ that we can, if we are obedient, live through the eternities with our families.  

私たちの救い主、イエス・キリストの贖いにより、私たちは望みを持つことができます。イエス・キリストの贖いにより、従順であれば家族と共に永遠に暮らせるのです。

How is this possible?  

どうしてそれが可能となるのでしょう？

Moroni teaches us that all this will be possible “because of your faith in him”.  If we have faith in Jesus Christ, we will keep his commandments.  If we have faith in Jesus Christ, we will serve him.  If we have faith in Jesus Christ, we will receive eternal life.

モロナイは「あなたがたがキリストを信じることで」それが可能となると教えています。イエス・キリストに信仰を持っていれば主の戒めを守ることでしょう。イエス・キリストに信仰を持っていれば主に仕えることでしょう。イエス・キリストに信仰を持っていれば永遠の命を受けることでしょう。

If you are struggling in this life, place your burdens on the Lord.  If you are struggling in this life, remember the great promises that Christ has given to you.  If you are struggling in this life, have faith in Christ and have hope in that bright future that awaits the obedient.

もしこの人生が苦しくて辛いなら、その重荷を主にゆだねてください。もしこの人生が苦しくて辛いなら、キリストがあなたに残された約束を思い出してください。もしこの人生が苦しくて辛いなら、キリストに信仰を持ち、従順なものにやってくる明るい将来に望みを持ってください。

Let’s try harder this week to eliminate doubt from our lives.  Let’s try harder to remember the great promises that await us.  Let’s try harder to always have hope for a glorious and eternal future life with our families.

今週、私たちの生活から疑いを取り除くことに努力してみましょう。私たちがまだ受けていない偉大な約束を忘れないようにしてみましょう。家族と共に暮らせる、素敵で永遠の生活に望みを常に持っていましょう。

I know that all these things are true.  I know that all these things are possible through the Atonement of Christ.  I know that we must have faith and hope in this life.

これらすべての事が真実だと私は知っています。これらすべてはキリストの贖いにより可能になることを知っています。私たちは信仰と希望がこの人生において必要なものだと知っています。
