わたしは、キリストなるイエスにある神の聖なる位に従って、このように語るように召されているからである。まことに、わたしは、将来起こることについて先祖が語ってきたことを、立ってこの民に証しするように命じられている。アルマ　５：４４

For I am called to speak after this manner, according to the holy order of God, which is in Christ Jesus; yea, I am commanded to stand and testify unto this people the things which have been spoken by our fathers concerning the things which are to come.  Alma 5:44

After a period of wars and fighting, the prophet Alma began again to teach the people of Zarahemla about the gospel.  The 5th chapter of Alma records many important things that Alma taught the people.

戦争や戦いが続いた後、預言者アルマは再びゾーラム人に福音を教え始めました。アルマ書の5章には彼が民に教えた多くの重要な内容が記録されています。

In this scripture, Alma explains very clearly why he is teaching them.  He also tells them by what authority he is doing this. He tells the people that, because he has been called of God, he has a duty and a responsibility to stand and to testify to the people about the gospel.

この聖句では、アルマは何故彼らに教えているのかを明確に説明しています。また彼は何の権威によってこれを行っているのか述べています。彼は神に召されたので、人々に福音について立って証しする義務と責任があると述べています。

It is true that Alma was called of God.  It is true that he had authority to teach.  It is true that he had a duty and a responsibility to testify to the people.  

確かにアルマは神に召されました。教える権威を受けたことは確かです。民に証しする義務と責任を持っていたことも確かです。

What about us?  Do we not have the same duty and responsibility?

では私たちはどうでしょう？私たちには同じ義務と責任がありませんか？

It is true that we are not the leader of the Church.  We are not a prophet.  

確かに私たちは教会の指導者ではありません。預言者でもありません。

But, we have been taught the gospel.  We have “been warned”, as it says in the Doctrine & Covenants.  We have decided to be true followers of our Savior Jesus Christ.

しかし私たちは福音を教えられてきました。私たちは教義と聖約にあるように「警告を受けて」います。私たちは救い主イエス・キリストの真の弟子となる決意をしています。

As followers of Jesus Christ, we too have the duty and responsibility “to stand and testify”.

イエス・キリストの従者として、私たちも「立って証しする」義務と責任を負っています。

It is unlikely that we will be testifying to an entire city, as Alma was doing.  But that does not relieve us of our responsibility. We do not have to be important leaders, we do not have to be well-known teachers, we do not have to be great missionaries.

私たちはアルマが行っていたように、町全体に証しすることはまずありません。だからと言って私たちはその責任から解放されるわけではありません。私たちは重要な指導者や著名な教師、偉大な宣教師である必要はありません。

We just have to be ourselves.

私たちは自分らしくてよいのです。

We can testify of the truthfulness of the gospel by being good examples.  We can testify of the truthfulness of the gospel by being a good friend. We can testify of the truthfulness of the gospel by being kind and helping others.

私たちは良い模範でいることで、福音の真実性を証しすることができます。良い友達でいること、他の人に親切であり、助けの手を差し述べることにより、福音の真実性を証しすることができます。

We can testify of the truthfulness of the gospel by explaining to others why we are happy, even in times of trials and hardships.  We can testify of the truthfulness of the gospel by providing correct information about the Church and about our beliefs. We can testify of the truthfulness of the gospel by standing firm for our beliefs.

We can testify of the truthfulness of the gospel by treating everyone we meet as a son or daughter of our Heavenly Father.  We can testify of the truthfulness of the gospel by inviting others to participate in ward activities. We can testify of the truthfulness of the gospel by being a good neighbor.

試練や苦難の中でも何故私たちが幸せなのかを説明することで福音の真実性を証しすることができます。教会や信条について正しい情報を伝えること、自分の信条を固く守ることで福音の真実性を証しすることができます。また誰でも出会う人を天父の息子娘として扱ったり、ワードの活動に招待することで福音の真実性を証しすることができます。良き隣人になることで福音の真実性を証しすることができます。

More importantly, we can testify of the truthfulness of the gospel by sharing our faith in our Savior, Jesus Christ.  We can testify of the truthfulness of the gospel by sharing our faith in The Book of Mormon. We can testify of the truthfulness of the gospel by sharing our own testimony.

さらに重要なことは、救い主イエス・キリストへの信仰を分かち合うことによって福音の真実性を証しすることができます。モルモン書を信じる信仰を分かち合うことで福音の真実性を証しすることができます。そして自分自身の証を分かち合うことで福音の真実性を証しすることができます。

As we go through this next week, let’s watch for opportunities to follow the example of Alma and be willing “to stand and testify” that the gospel is true.  Let’s remember that by “small and simple things” great things are brought to pass. Let’s remember that we too have been “called to speak”.

来週を過ごすとき、アルマの模範に従い、喜んで福音が真実であることを「立って証しする」機会を注意して探してみましょう。「小さな簡単なこと」によって大いなることが成し遂げられることを忘れないようにしましょう。私たちも「語るよう召されている」ことを覚えていましょう。
