First, I give unto you Hyrum Smith to be a patriarch unto you, to hold the sealing blessings of my church, even the Holy Spirit of promise, whereby ye are sealed up unto the day of redemption, that ye may not fall notwithstanding the hour of temptation that may come upon you.  Doctrine & Covenants 124:124

By 1841, most of the saints had gathered to Nauvoo.  The persecutions in Missouri had become so bad that all members of the Church had to leave.  In 1838, the governor of the state of Missouri, Lilburn Boggs, had signed a law called the “exterminating order”.  This law said any member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints who was found in the state of Missouri could be killed.  (This law actually remained on the books of the state of Missouri until 1976!).

As the saints gathered in Nauvoo, the Lord gave the Prophet Joseph Smith several revelations relating to the building of a new temple.  In verse 28 of Section 124, for example, the Lord tells the Prophet that there “is not a place found on earth that he may come to and restore that which was lost”.

聖徒がノーブーに集まったとき、主は預言者ジョセフ・スミスに新しい神殿の建設に関する啓示をいくつか与えられました。たとえば、124章28節で、主は預言者に「失われたものを回復できる場所が地上にない」と述べておられます。

The Lord also tells the Prophet that the work of baptisms for the dead must be done in a temple.  For a short while, the Lord allowed the saints to perform baptisms for the dead without a temple.  But now, the Lord commands that a temple be constructed wherein those ordinances can be performed.

主はまた、死者のためのバプテスマの業を神殿で行うように預言者に告げておられます。しばらくの間、主は聖徒が神殿なしで死者のためにバプテスマを執行することを許されました。しかし現在では、主はその儀式を執行できる神殿を建設するように命じられておられます。

As another step in the Restoration, and in preparation for the Nauvoo Temple, the Lord restores the sealing power of the priesthood.  Hyrum Smith, the older brother of the Prophet, is called to be the patriarch and is the one chosen to hold the sealing authority.  

回復のもう一つの段階と、またノーブー神殿の準備として、主は神権の結び固めの力を回復されました。預言者の兄であるハイラム・スミスは祝福師と召され、結び固めの権能を持つものとして選ばれた人です。

This was the beginning.  It was now possible to seal families together for all eternity, under the power and authority of the priesthood.  

これが始まりでした。神権の力と権能の下で、家族を永遠に結び固めることが可能になりました。

A great light had appeared in the darkness of the centuries.  The keys of the priesthood were once again on the earth.  There would soon be a holy temple were those keys could be used under the authority of the Prophet.

何世紀も続いた暗闇に明るい光が差し込みました。神権の鍵は再び地上にもたらされました。その鍵が預言者の権能の下で行使さるならば、すぐに聖なる神殿ができることでしょう。

What a glorious message!  Families can be eternal!  Not just for this life, for this short day of mortality, but for all eternity!

なんと素晴らしいメッセージでしょう。家族は永遠になれます！現世だけではなく、短い死すべき人生のためだけではなく、永遠のために！

This is a key message of the gospel of Jesus Christ.  It is a message of joy and happiness to all of Heavenly Father’s children.  It is a message of comfort to those who mourn the loss of loved ones.  It is a blessing available to all who will repent and believe in Jesus Christ.  

これはイエス・キリストの福音の重要なメッセージです。天父の子供たち全員への喜びと幸福のメッセージです。愛する人の喪失を悼む人々への慰めのメッセージです。それは、悔い改めてイエス・キリストを信じるすべての人が享受できる祝福です。

We have a duty to share this message of joy with everyone.  This is an easy message to share, since it is a message of hope.  Every family where the parents love their children and where the children love their parents wants to be together forever.  Heavenly Father’s love makes that possible.

私たちには、この喜びのメッセージをすべての人と分かち合う務めがあります。これは希望のメッセージなので、分かち合うのは簡単なことです。親が子供を愛し、子供が親を愛するすべての家族は、永遠に一緒にいたいと願うことでしょう。天父の愛はそれを可能にしてくれます。

As we go through this next week, let’s remember that those sacred priesthood keys have been restored to the earth.  Let’s remember that we can be sealed together as eternal families.  Let’s remember that all it takes is our obedience to the laws of God.  Let’s remember to share this glad message with all people.

これらの神聖な神権の鍵が地上に回復されたことを心に留めて過ごしましょう。私たちは永遠の家族として一緒に結び固められることを忘れないでください。必要なのは、神の律法に従うことだけです。この喜ばしいメッセージをすべての人と分かち合うことを覚えて、新しい週を過ごすことをお勧めします。
