さて見よ、わたしの愛する同胞よ、あなたがたに言う。これすべてであると思ってはならない。これらのことをすべて行なっても、もし乏しい人や着る物のない人を追い払ったり、病気な人や苦しんでいる人を見舞わなかったり、自分には持ち物がありながら、それを必要としている人々に分け与えなかったりするならば、あなたがたに言うが、あなたがたの祈りはむなしく、何の役にも立たない。あなたがたは信仰を否定する偽善者と同じである。アルマ３４：２８

And now behold, my beloved brethren, I say unto you, do not suppose that this is all; for after ye have done all these things, if ye turn away the needy, and the naked, and visit not the sick and afflicted, and impart of your substance, if ye have, to those who stand in need — I say unto you, if ye do not any of these things, behold, your prayer is vain, and availeth you nothing, and ye are as hypocrites who do deny the faith.  Alma 34:28

In the 34th chapter of Alma, Amulek is teaching the people of the Zoramites.  He teaches them about the prophecies of the coming of Jesus Christ, about the need to pray always, and about the Plan of Salvation.

アルマ書の34章ではアミュレクがゾーラム人に教えています。彼はイエス・キリスト再臨の預言や常に祈る必要性、救いの計画について彼らに教えています。

Finally, Amulek teaches the people that they must minister to others, just as the Savior did.  This is our scripture for today.

最後にアミュレクは人々に救い主がされたように他の人々にミニスタリングしなければならない事を教えています。それが今日の私たちの聖句です。

Ministering is a topic that has been again emphasized in our day.  In a recent General Conference, President Russell M. Nelson, a prophet of God, taught us that we need to do better in our efforts to minister to others.  The old home teaching and visiting teaching programs were ended. A new ministering program replaced both of the older programs.

ミニスタリングは今日の私たちに再び強調された課題です。最近の総大会で神の預言者であるラッセル・Ｍ・ネルソン大管長は他の人にミニスタリングする努力をより良くする必要があると教えられました。古いホームティーチングや訪問教師プログラムは終了しました。新たなミニスタリングが古いプログラムの両方を置き換えました。

But ministering is not new.  It has been an important part of the gospel since the very beginning.  It was certainly an important part of the gospel during the time of Alma and Amulek.  It was very important during the earthly ministry of the Savior.

しかしミニスタリングは新しいものではありません。それは世の初めから福音の重要なものでした。それは確かにアルマとアミュレクの時代に福音の重要な部分でした。主が地上で教導の業を行われていた時にもそれは非常に重要なものでした。

What does it mean to “minister”?  Can we really minister? Who do we minister to?

「ミニスタリングする」とはどういうことでしょう？私たちも実際にミニスタリングできるでしょうか？私たちは誰にミニスタリングしますか？

“To minister” simply means to help others.  It means to be kind to everyone. It means to serve those in need of help.

「ミニスタリングする」とは誰かを助けることです。すべての人に親切であり助けの必要な人に仕えることです。

The great thing about ministering is that we can all do it.  Every one of us. It does not require any special talents. It does not require any special calling.  It does not require any special knowledge. We can all do it.

ミニスタリングの素晴らしいことは、私たちの誰もができるということです。誰もがです。特別な才能は必要ありません。特別な召しや知識も必要ではありません。誰もができるのです。

When we help anyone, we are ministering.  Even the smallest acts are included in the definition of ministering.  Something as simple as saying “Hello” to someone that we don’t know is ministering.  Sitting by someone in Church who is new, or who is sitting all alone is ministering.  

誰かを助ける時、私たちはミニスタリングをしています。たとえ小さな行為であってもそれはミニスタリングの定義に含まれています。私たちが知らない誰かに「こんにちは」と言うこともミニスタリングです。教会で新しい人やひとりでいる人と一緒に座ることもミニスタリングです。

We are ministering when we serve in our callings.  We are ministering when we attend the Temple. We are ministering when we visit our assigned families.  We are ministering when we visit someone who is sick. When we give someone a ride to Church, we are ministering.  When we help set up tables or take down chairs, we are ministering.

召しに仕えることでも私たちはミニスタリングをしています。神殿に参入し、割り当てられた家族を訪問するときも私たちはミニスタリングをしています。病気の人を訪問したり教会に誰かを乗せていくときも私たちはミニスタリングをしています。机や椅子を並べる時も私たちはミニスタリングをしています。

The goal of ministering, oddly enough, is not really to help others, although that is certainly one of the main benefits.  The real goal of ministering is to teach each of us to be more like our Savior. It is though ministering that we learn to put the needs of others above our own.

ミニスタリングの目的は、おかしいかもしれませんが誰かを助けるということではありません。勿論それは主な利点の一つです。ミニスタリングの本当の目的は、私たち一人一人がより救い主のようになるよう教えることです。ミニスタリングを通して自分より他人の必要を優先することを学ぶのです。

As we minister, we learn how to be better disciples of Jesus Christ.  

ミニスタリングすることで私たちはイエス・キリストのより良い弟子となる方法を学びます。

As we go through this next week, let’s learn to be better ministers.  Let’s look for opportunities to learn how to minister. Let’s learn to be better followers of Jesus Christ.

より良いミニスターになれるよう学びながら来週を過ごしましょう。ミニスタリングをする方法を学べる機会を探してみましょう。イエス・キリストのより良い従者となる学びましょう。
