今朝は、モルモン書の力と、またこの教会の会員としてその教えを研究し、深く考え、生活に取り入れることがぜひとも必要であるということについてはなします。。。主の御業における愛する同僚の皆さん、モルモン書を毎日よく祈って研究し、深く考えるよう、皆さん一人一人に切に願います。トーマス・S・モンソン大官長、２０１７年４月総大会
This morning I speak about the power of the Book of Mormon and the critical need we have as members of this Church to study, ponder, and apply its teachings in our lives. The importance of having a firm and sure testimony of the Book of Mormon cannot be overstated. My dear associates in the work of the Lord, I implore each of us to prayerfully study and ponder the Book of Mormon each day.
President Thomas S. Monson, April 2017 General Conference
In the April, 2017 General Conference, President Monson was only able to speak for a few minutes. It is obvious that he is coming to the end of his service here on earth. Even though he was only able to stand and speak to us briefly, he felt a great need to deliver his message to us.
2017 春の総大会ではモンソン大管長はほんの数分しかお話されませんでした。地上での務めが終わりに近づいているのは明らかです。彼はたとえ立って話すのがやっとでも、私たちにメッセージを伝える必要性を強く感じていました。
What did he teach us in one of his last General Conference addresses? Of all the things he could teach us, he had to choose something he felt would be the most important.
前回の大会で私たちにあてた話しの中で何を教えられたでしょうか？彼は私たちへ教えたいと思う多くの教えの中から最も大切だと感じる何かを選ばねばなりませんでした。
He chose to teach us about the great importance of the Book of Mormon and our duty to read it.
彼はモルモン書の重要性とそれを読む私たちの義務について教えることを選びました。
Notice the words that President Monson used: “critical need”, “study”, “ponder”, “importance”, “cannot be overstated”, “implore”.
モンソン大管長が使われた言葉に注意を払ってください。「是非とも必要」「研究する」「深く考える」「重要性」「いくら言っても言いすぎるということはない」「切に願う」など。
These are all very strong words. Those words indicate the great importance the Book of Mormon has to President Monson.
それらはどれも力強い言葉です。モンソン大管長にとってそれらはモルモン書の重要性を示唆しています。
President Monson teaches us that it is critical that we read and study the Book of Mormon. We are to ponder its messages. We are to apply the things the Book of Mormon teaches us.
モンソン大管長は私たちがモルモン書を読んで学ぶことは重要なことだと教えています。その教えを熟考し、モルモン書が私たちに教えることを生活に応用する必要があります。
He also teaches us that “the importance of having a firm and sure testimony of the Book of Mormon cannot be overstated”. Coming from a prophet of God, that is a very powerful statement.
彼はまた「モルモン書について固く確かな証を持つことの重要性について言いすぎることはない」と教えています。神の預言者からの言葉だけにその教えはとても力強いものです。
He closes with the plea “I implore each of us to prayerfully study and ponder the Book of Mormon each day”.
彼は「一人ひとり祈りの心でモルモン書を毎日学び熟考するよう嘆願します」と願いを込めて話を終えました。
He does not say, “I suggest you read the Book of Mormon”, or “I think it would be good if you read the Book of Mormon”, or “I hope you will read the Book of Mormon”. He said, “I implore you to read the Book of Mormon”.
彼は「モルモン書を読むようにお勧めます」とか、「モルモン書を読むのは良いことだと私は考えます」とか「私はあなた方がモルモン書を読むよう願っています」とは言いませんでした。「モルモン書を読むようあなた方に嘆願します」と言われました。
Do you believe that President Monson is a prophet of God? Do you believe that he teaches us true principles? Do you believe that we should follow the counsel and teaching of God’s prophet?
あなたはモンソン大管長が神の預言者であると信じていますか？彼が真の原則を教えてくれると信じていますか。あなたは神の預言者の勧告や教えに従うべきだと信じていますか？
If you do believe these things, it is very clear what we need to do. We need to prayerfully study and ponder the Book of Mormon every day.
そう信じているなら、私たちのすべきことははっきりしてます。祈りの気持ちでモルモン書を学び、熟考する必要があります。
If you have not read the Book of Mormon completely, today is a great day to start reading. If you have read the Book of Mormon completely, but have not read it recently, today is a great day to start reading. If you have read the Book of Mormon recently, today is a great day to start reading again.
モルモン書を完全に読んだことが無ければ、今日から読み始めましょう。モルモン書を完全に読んだことがあっても最近読んでいなければ今日から読み始めましょう。もしモルモン書を最近読んでいても今日から再び読み始めましょう。
It does not matter whether you read one page, or one chapter, or even one verse each day. Some days we may be able to read many pages. Some days we may only be able to read a few verses. The important thing is that we follow the teaching of President Monson and read from the Book of Mormon each day.
毎日一頁、一章または一節読むかということはあまり重要ではありません。日によっては多くの頁を読めるでしょう。日によっては少しの節しか読めないかもしれません。大切なのはモンソン大管長の教えに従ってモルモン書を毎日読むことです。
I know that the Book of Mormon is true. It is a second witness of our Savior Jesus Christ. It was translated by the Prophet Joseph Smith through the power of God. It is the most important book on the earth today.
私はモルモン書が真実だと知っています。それは私たちの救い主イエス・キリストの二つ目の証です。預言者ジョセフ・スミスが神の力によって翻訳したものであり、この地上で最も重要な書物です。
I know that, as we follow the teaching of President Monson and read the Book of Mormon each day, we will receive a strong testimony of the Book of Mormon.
モンソン大管長の教えに従いモルモン書を毎日読むことでモルモン書の強い証を得られることを私は知っています。
Let’s all start reading the Book of Mormon today. And tomorrow. And every day after that, too! Let’s follow President Monson!
モルモン書を今日読み始めましょう。そして明日も。そしてその後も毎日です。モンソン大管長に従いましょう。
