Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of Man cometh. Matthew 25:13
This scripture is from the Parable of the 10 Virgins. It is the last verse in that parable.
この聖句は十人のおとめのたとえ話で最後の節にあります。
In this parable, the Lord teaches us that we should always keep the commandments. He uses the example of ten women who were all good Church members.
このたとえ話で、主は私たちに常に戒めを守るよう教えられ、すべての正しい教会員を十人のおとめにたとえておられます。
But five of them let unimportant things take up too much time. Because they spent their time on unimportant things, they did not have enough time to prepare for the important things.
十人の中の五人は重要ではない事がらに多くの時間をとられていました。彼らは重要ではない事に時間を費やしたため、重要な事のために準備する時間が無くなったのです。
Sometimes, we become like the five foolish virgins.
時として私たちも五人のおろかなおとめのようになることがあります。
Last week at the Temple, one of the sister ordinance workers came to the recommend desk, ready to start her temple assignment. But her temple recommend had expired. She was not able to enter the Temple.
先週神殿で一人のOrdinance Worker の姉妹が神殿での責任をはじめる準備をするためRecommend Desk までやって来ましたが彼女の神殿推薦状が切れていたのです。当然彼女は神殿に入ることが出来ませんでした。
She was very sad. She had been looking forward to working in the Temple that night. She said that she had been very busy and had forgotten that her recommend was about to expire. She said, “I feel like one of the foolish virgins. I don’t get to go to the party”.
彼女はその晩神殿で働けると楽しみにしていたのでとても悲しい思いをしました。彼女は忙しくて神殿推薦状が切れ掛かっているのを忘れており「私はまるで宴会に行けないおろかな乙女のようだ」と言いました。
We all have many things that we have to do each day. It seems like there is never enough time to accomplish all that we need to do. That is true.
私たちは毎日すべきことが多くあります。私たちにはすべきことをすべて行なう十分な時間が無いように感じます。確かにその通りでしょう。
That is why it is very important to set priorities. We only have a limited amount of time. We need to use that time for the most important things.
だからこそ優先順位をつけることがとても大切なのです。私たちは限られた時間しか与えられていませんので、与えられたその時間をもっとも重要な事がらに使う必要があります。
Elder Oaks gave a great talk in the October 2007 General Conference about setting priorities for “good things, better things, and best things”. He taught us that just because something is “good”, that does not mean we should spend time on it.
2007年10月の総大会でダリン・H・オークス長老は「良いこと，より良いこと，最も良いこと」についてお話されました。彼は何かがただ「良い」という理由でそのために時間を費やすことは賢明ではないと教えました。
We need to make sure we are using our limited amount of time for the “best things” first, then the “better things”, and then, if there is still time, for the “good things”.
私たちはまず「最も良いこと」に自分たちの限られた時間を使い、次に「より良いこと」をし、更に時間が余っていれば「良いこと」をすべきなのです。
Setting priorities is a challenge. There are many activities that compete for our time. The Lord expects us to make choices and to use our time wisely. We do not want to be a “foolish virgin”.
優先順位を設定することは易しくありません。現代は時間を奪い合う活動が多くあります。主は私たちが（正しい）選択をし時間を有効に使うよう期待しておられます。私たちは「おろかなおとめ」にはなりたくありません。
Let’s try hard this week to be better at setting priorities. Let’s try hard to do the “best things” first. That sometimes means giving up “good things” or even “better things”. But if we do the “best things” first, everything will work out for us.
今週、よりよく優先順位が設定できるよう頑張って努力してみましょう。まず「最も良いこと」が出来るよう頑張りましょう。それは時として「良いこと」、もしかして「より良いこと」までも諦めるという意味なのです。しかし私たちがもし「最も良いこと」をまず行なうならすべてがうまくいくのです。
