Behold, they have been sent to preach my gospel among the congregations of the wicked; wherefore, I give unto them a commandment, thus: Thou shall not idle away thy time, neither shall thou bury they talent that is may not be known. Doctrine & Covenants 60:13
This revelation was given to the Prophet Joseph Smith in Independence, Jackson County, Missouri on August 8, 1831. The Prophet and the elders who had come to Jackson County asked the Lord what they should do.
これは1831年8月8日にミズーリ州ジャクソン郡インディペンデンスにおいてジョセフ・スミスに与えられた啓示です。預言者とジャクソン郡に来ていた長老たちは何をすべきか主に尋ねました。
While this revelation was given to them as a specific instruction, it is also a guide for us. The same instruction the Lord gave to the Prophet and his companions applies to us in our day.
具体的な指示として彼らに啓示が与えられましたが、それは同時に私たちに対しての教示でもあります。主が預言者と同僚たちに与えられた教えは私たちの日々の生活にも当てはまります。
The Lord teaches us three important things in this revelation.
主はこの啓示で三つ重要なことを教えておられます。
First, he tells us that our duty is to preach the gospel. How do we do this?
まず、私たちの義務は福音を伝えることだと言われました。それはどのようにするのでしょうか？
Some of us have had the opportunity to be fulltime missionaries. Some of us have had the opportunity to be Stake or Ward missionaries. But that is not the only way to preach the gospel.
私たちの何人かは専任宣教師になる機会があり、また何人かはステークやワード部宣教師になる機会がありました。しかし、それが福音を伝える唯一の方法ではありません。
All of us have friends who are not yet members of the Church. Every day, we meet good people who need the blessings of the gospel in their lives. We all have opportunities to preach the gospel.
私たち全員にはまだ教会の会員でない友達がいます。毎日私たちは人生で福音の祝福を必要としている良い人々に出会います。私たちには福音を伝える機会があります。
“Preaching the gospel” can be done in many different ways. We preach the gospel when we serve faithfully in our callings. We preach the gospel when we visit our home teaching or visiting teaching families. We preach the gospel when we participate in service projects. We preach the gospel by “letting our light shine”.
「福音を宣べ伝える」ことは色々な違った方法で出来ます。私たちは自分の召しを忠実に務めるとき福音を伝えています。ホームティーチングや家庭訪問教師の担当家族を訪問するとき福音を伝えています。奉仕の機会に参加するとき福音を伝えています。私たちは「自分の光を輝かせる」ことで福音を伝えています。
Second, the Lord tells us that we should not “idle away our time”.
2番目に主は「時間を無駄に過ごしてはならない」と言われました。
We all have many opportunities to preach the gospel in some way every day. How many times to we let those opportunities go by without doing anything? The Lord has commanded us to be diligent. He has commanded us to do our best. He has commanded us to not “idle away our time”.
私たちには日々色々な方法で福音を伝える機会が沢山あります。そういう機会をどれほど何もせずにやり過ごしていることでしょう？主は勤勉であるよう、また「時間を無駄に過さない」よう私たちを戒められました。
Third, the Lord tells us that we should not “bury our talent”.
The Lord has blessed each one of us with talents. Our talents are all different. Not everyone has the same talents. But everyone does have talents. We need to learn what our talents are.
3番目に主は「私たちのタラントを隠さ」ないようにと言われました。主は私たち一人ひとりに才能を与え祝福してくださいました。私たちの才能はすべて違います。誰も同じ才能を受けてはいません。しかし誰もが才能を持っています。私たちは自分にはどんな才能が祝福されているのか知る必要があります。
Maybe your talent is being a good listener. Maybe your talent is providing service to those in need. Maybe your talent is teaching a Primary class. Maybe your talent is music, or speaking, or helping others to have faith in God.
あなたの才能は良い聞き手ということかも知れません。助けの必要な人に奉仕することであったり、初等協会のクラスで教えることかもしれません。また音楽やお話し、他の誰かが神への信仰を持てる援助をすることかもしれません。
It does not matter what your talent is. What matters is that you use the talents the Lord has blessed you with to help others. We must not “bury our talents”.
あなたの才能が何であろうと関係ありません。重要なのは主が祝福してくださった才能を他の誰かを助けるために使うということです。私たちは「私たちのタラントを隠して」はいけないのです。
May we work hard this week to preach the gospel in some way. May we not be idle, but watch for opportunities to help others learn about Heavenly Father’s great plan. May we study and learn what our talents are, then use those talents in the service of the Lord.
今週も何かの方法で福音を教えるよう頑張りましょう。怠惰でなく、天父の偉大な計画を他の誰かが学べる手助けする機会を探せますように。私たちの才能について調べて見つけ、そしてそれを主に奉仕するために使えますように。
I know that as we follow the commandments the Lord has given us in this commandment that we will be blessed. And, we will be able to bless the lives of others.
私は主から与えられたこの戒めに従うとき、私たちは祝福されると知っています。そして他の誰かの生活をも祝福できるのです。
