記録を保存するのはわたしが愚かだからであると、あなたは思うかもしれない。しかし見よ、わたしはあなたに言う。小さな、簡単なことによって大いなることが成し遂げられるのである。そして、小さな手段が度々知者を辱める。主なる神は偉大な永遠の目的を達するために、様々な手段によって事を行われる。また、ごく小さな手段によって、主は知者を辱め、また多くの人を救われる。アルマ第３７章：６－７
Now ye may suppose that this is foolishness in me; but behold I say unto you, that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass; and small means in many instances doth confound the wise. And the Lord God doth work by means to bring about his great purposes; and by very small means the Lord doth confound the wise and bringeth about the salvation of many souls. Alma 37:6-7
Most of us probably consider ourselves to be “small and simple things”. None of us are great leaders like Nephi or Captain Moroni. None of us are great prophets or priesthood leaders like Joseph Smith or Brigham Young. None of us have ever been asked to give a talk in General Conference.
私たちの殆んどが自分は「小さな簡単な」者だと思っていることでしょう。誰もニーファイやモロナイの様な偉大な指導者ではありませんし、ジョセフスミスやブリガムヤングの様な偉大な予言者や神権指導者でもありません。誰も総大会でお話をするよう頼まれたこともないでしょう。
In the eyes of the world, “small and simple” means the same as “not important”. The world looks down on those who are small and simple.
通常、世間では「小さな簡単な」ことは「重要ではない」ことを意味します。世間では小さな簡単な者を見下すものです。
But, the Lord loves the small and simple. He loves each one of us just as much as he loves Nephi. He loves us because we recognize that we are small and simple things.
しかし主は小さな簡単な者を愛されます。ニーファイを愛されたのと同じように私たち一人一人を愛しておられます。それは私たちが自分は小さな簡単な者であることを認めているからでしょう。
At the same time, the Lord expects us, the small and simple things, to accomplish many things. The things we accomplish may only be small and simple things. But the Lord tells us in this scripture that it is by small and simple things that great things are brought to pass.
同時に主は多くのことを成し遂げるため私たちに小さな簡単な者であるよう望んでおられます。私たちが成し遂げることは小さな簡単なことかもしれません。しかし主はこの聖句で小さな簡単なことによって大いなることが成し遂げられると述べておられます。
Just because we are small and simple things does not mean that we cannot do important things. Even a very small and simple thing can have a great impact on others.
私たちは小さな簡単な者であるというだけで重要なことが出来ないわけではありません。とても小さな簡単なことでも他の誰かに大きな影響を与えることが出来るのです。
Someone once said, “Anyone who thinks that small and simple things do not have a great effect on others has never spent a night with a mosquito”.
ある人が「小さな簡単なことなど誰かに大きな影響を与えることが出来ないと思っている人がいたら、きっとその人は蚊と夜を共に過ごしたことなどないだろう」と話したことがあります。
A mosquito is a very, very small thing, but it can have a big influence on the people it meets.
蚊はとてもとても小さなものです。けれども蚊と遭遇する人に多大な影響を与えることが出来ます。
The next time that you think you cannot do anything because you are a small and simple thing, think of the mosquito.
今度、自分は小さな簡単な者なので何もできないと考えることがあれば「蚊」を思い浮かべてください。
We can do many small and simple things that can have a very big influence on people. We can serve in our callings. We can greet people with a smile. We can sit with someone at Church who needs a friend. We can visit the sick or the elderly. We can be kind to others. We can complement people. We can find opportunities to serve others.
私たちは誰かに小さな簡単なことを沢山行うことができます。その結果大きな影響を与えることが出来るのです。私たちは自分の召しを果たすことが出来ます。笑顔で挨拶をし、友達の必要な誰かと教会で一緒に座ることが出来ます。病気や老人を訪問し、人に親切にしたり褒めたりできます。私たちは誰かのために尽くす機会を見つけることが出来ます。
The list of small and simple things has no end. Every day, there are opportunities for us to do small and simple things.
小さな簡単なことのリストは尽きることがありません。私たちには毎日小さな簡単なことをする機会があります。
The amazing thing is the small and simple things we do can be very big things to others. We have no idea how important our small and simple things may be in the life of someone else.
驚くことは私たちが行う小さな簡単なことが他の人にとってとても大きなことにもなるのです。私たちの小さな簡単なことが誰かの人生にとってどれ程重要なことになるのか私たちにはわからないでしょう。
Let’s look for opportunities this week to do small and simple things. Let’s not give up or hide in our homes because we are small and simple things. Small and simple things are very important! The Lord has told us that it is by small and simple things that he accomplishes his work here on earth. Let’s be happy being small and simple things, and happy in doing small and simple things.
今週、小さな簡単なことをする機会を探して過ごしましょう。自分が小さな簡単な者だからといって諦めたり家に閉じこもっていないようにしましょう。小さな簡単なことはとても重要なのです。主は小さな簡単なことをもってこの地上で主の業を行わうと言われました。小さな簡単な者であることを幸せに思いましょう、そして小さな簡単なことを行うことを幸せに思いましょう。
