しかし見よ、キリストの復活は人類、まことに全人類を贖って主の御前に連れもどす。ヒラマン１４：１７

But behold, the resurrection of Christ redeemeth mankind, yea, even all mankind, and bringeth the back into the presences of the Lord.  Helaman 14:17

This scripture is from the message delivered by Samuel, a Lamanite, to the Nephites in Zarahemla.  It contains an important teaching for everyone.

この聖句はレーマン人サムエルがゼラヘムラでニーファイ人を教えたときの言葉です。そこには誰にとっても大切な教えが含まれています。

Some people believe that this life is all there is.  They believe that when a person dies, that is the end of everything.  

一部の人々はこの人生がすべてであると信じています。人が死ぬとすべてが終わると信じています。

This is a very limited view of our mortal existence.  If this life really is all that there is, there would be no reason to make good choices.  There would be no reason to help others. There would be no reason to do anything. You could do whatever you want, or do nothing at all.  There would be no consequences.

それは私たちの死すべき現世について非常に限られた見方です。もしこの世が本当にすべてであるならば、良い選択をする理由はありません。誰かを助ける理由もありませんし、何も善い行いをする理由もありません。あなたは何でも好きなことをしてもよいし、全く何もしなくてもよいのです。行いの結果などないのです。

This is the attitude that the Book of Mormon prophets warn us against.  The philosophy is “eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow we die”. This is one of Satan’s great tricks.

モルモン書の預言者はこうした態度を私たちに警告しています。その哲学は「明日は死ぬ身なのだから、飲み食いし、楽しみなさい」と言うものです。これはサタンの強力な罠です。

The truth is that this mortal existence is only a very small part of our eternal existence.  Before we came to this earth, we lived as spirit children of Heavenly parents. We learned about the great Plan of Happiness.  We were anxious to come here to earth to prove our worthiness.

真実はこの死すべき世は永遠という存在のごく一部にすぎないということです。この地上に来る前、私たちは天の両親の霊の子供として暮らしていました。幸福の計画について学びました。私たちはここに来て自分のふさわしさを証明するために地上に来ることを待ちわびていました。

It is the wonderful Atonement of Jesus Christ that makes everything possible.  It makes it possible for us to repent. It makes it possible for us to become clean again.  It makes it possible for us to return and live with Heavenly Father again. 

すべてを可能にするのはイエス・キリストの素晴らしい贖いです。それは私たちが悔い改めることを可能にし、再び聖くなり天の御父と共に暮らすことを可能にします。

Just as importantly, the Atonement of Jesus Christ means that everyone will be resurrected.  Not just the people who were righteous, but everyone. Even wicked people, even those who rejected the prophets and their teachings, even those who committed great sins and refused to repent will be resurrected.

イエス・キリストの贖いは誰もが復活することを意味しています。これも同じように重要なことです。正しい人だけでなくすべての人が復活するのです。邪悪な人や預言者、その教えを拒絶した人、大きな罪を犯した人、悔い改めを拒んだ人もすべて復活するのです。

There is no escape.  Everyone that was ever born will be resurrected.  The righteous rejoice in the hope of the resurrection.  The wicked, though, are very fearful.  

誰もそれから逃れることは出来ません。生れてきた誰もが復活するのです。義人は復活を願って喜びますが、邪悪な人は非常に恐怖を感じます。

Why are they fearful?  They are fearful because they now understand that they made serious mistakes.  They now understand that they will have to stand before the Lord someday and be judged.  They now understand that, unless they fully repent, they will receive punishment for their sins.

彼らは何故、恐怖を感じるのでしょう？彼らはその時、大きな間違いを犯したことを悟るので恐怖を感じるのです。彼らはいつの日か主の前に立ち、裁かれることを悟るので恐怖を感じるのです。完全に悔い改めないといつの日か彼らは罪の罰を受けることを悟るので恐怖を感じるのです。

The righteous, on the other hand, look forward with gladness and joy to their future resurrection.  They look forward with gladness and joy to be able to receive their eternal resurrected body. They look forward with gladness and joy to be able to be in the presences of the Lord once again.

ところが正しい人は、将来の復活を喜びを持って待ち望みます。彼らは永遠の復活体を受けれることに喜びを持って待ち望みます。彼らは再び主と共に過ごせることを喜びを持って待ち望みます。

They rejoice in the great Atonement of our Savior, Jesus Christ.  They know that it is only through his Atonement, and through keeping his commandments, that they will receive that joy.

彼らは救い主イエス・キリストの大いなる贖いに喜びを感じます。彼らはそれが救い主の贖いと戒めを守ることを通してのみ喜びをうけることを知っています。

This is the wonderful Plan of Happiness.  It is available to everyone. No one is excluded.  The rules are the same for every single person that comes to this earth.  

これは実に素晴らしい幸福の計画です。それは誰にでも用意されています。誰一人除外されていません。この地上にやって来るすべての人にその約束が有効なのです。

As we go through this next week, let’s remember the Atonement of our Savior.  Let’s remember his great love for us. Let’s remember that, some day, every one of us will have to stand before the Lord and report on our time here on earth.  Let’s prepare for that day now, while we can still repent.

私たちの救い主の贖いを忘れないように来週を過ごしましょう。救い主の大きな愛を覚えていましょう。いつの日か私たちは全員主の前に立ち、地上で過ごした日々の報告をしなければならないことを覚えていましょう。私たちがまだ悔い改めれるうちに、その日のために備えましょう。
