神はあなたがたが善悪をわきまえられるようにしてくださり、また、あなたがたが生でも、死でも選べるようにしてくださった。あなたがたは善を行って、善であるものに回復される。言い換えればあなたがたに回復された善であるものを持つことができる。また、あなたがたは悪を行って、あなたがたに回復された悪であるものを持つことができるのである。ヒラマン１４：３１

He hath given unto you that ye might know good from evil, and he hath given unto you that ye might choose life or death; and you can do good and be restored unto that which is good, or have that which is good restored unto you; or ye can do evil, and have that which is evil restored unto you.  Helaman 14:31

In this short scripture, Helaman teaches us three very important things.  

この短い聖句でヒラマンは三つの大切な事を私たちに教えています。

First of all, Helaman teaches us that we all know good from evil.  The Lord has given each one of us the ability to know good from evil.  Every person who is born into this life has this gift given to them.  Even small children can understand what is good and what is evil.

まず最初に、私たちは皆善悪をわきまえられると教えています。主は私たち各々に善悪を区別する能力を与えられました。この世に生まれてくる誰でもこの贈り物を授かっています。小さな子供でも何が良く、何が悪いか理解できるのです。

Second, Helaman reminds us that the Lord has given us the ability to choose.  The gift of free agency is one of the greatest gifts from God.  Every person had the right to choose for themselves.  In order for our reward or punishment to be just, it must be based on choices we made ourselves.

2番目に、ヒラマンは主が私たちに選択する能力を与えられたことを思い起こさせています。自由意志という贈り物は神からの最もすばらしい贈り物です。すべての人は自分自身で選択する権利を持っています。報いを受けるか罰を受けるかという公正さは自分自身の選択によらなければなりません。

Finally, Helaman explains that our eternal happiness will be determined by the choices that we make.  

最後に、永遠の幸福は私たちが決める選択の結果によるとヒラマンは説明しています。

If we choose good things, and make good choices, the Lord has promised us that we will have ”good restored” unto us.  If we choose evil things, and make bad choices,  we will have “evil restored” unto us.  

もし良いことを選び良い選択をすれば、主は「回復された善」を私たちは受けると約束してくださいました。もし悪を選び悪い選択をすれば「回復された悪」を私たちは受ける結果となります。

This is God’s law of justice.  Each person is responsible for their own reward or punishment.  Just as no one can be forced to be good, no one can be forced to be evil.

これが神の正義の律法なのです。各自が自分自身の報いや罰に対して責任を持っています。誰一人善であるよう強制されないように、誰一人悪であるよう強制されることもありません。

But, what if a person has made bad choices in the past.  If that person wants to now choose good, is that possible?

しかしもし過去に間違った選択をしている人はどうでしょう？そして今よい選択をしたいと望んでいたら、それは可能でしょうか？

Of course.  God loves every one of His children.  He has provided a Savior for us.  Through the atonement of Jesus Christ, every one of us can repent.  We have all made bad choices sometimes.  We have all made mistakes.  

もちろんです。神様はすべての神の子供を愛しておられます。神は私たちのために救い主を送られました。イエス・キリストの贖罪を通して私たちは誰でも悔い改めることが出来ます。私たちは皆間違った選択をし、間違いを犯したことがあります。

All that the Lord asks us to do is to repent of our mistakes.  When we truly repent, the Lord has promised us that he will remember our sins no more.  We can all become clean and pure once again.

主が私たちに要求されることはただ私たちの過ちを悔い改めることだけです。心から悔い改めるとき主は私たちの罪を覚えていないと約束されました。私たちは再び清く純粋になれるのです。

Let’s all work harder this week to make good choices.  Let’s all work harder to have good restored unto us.  Let’s all work harder to repent of the bad choices we have made.  Let’s go forward with faith in Christ and make today a better day!

今週、良い選択をするよう頑張りましょう。回復された善を受ける様努めましょう。犯してしまった間違った選択を悔い改めるよう努力しましょう。キリストに信仰を持って前進し、今日という日をより良い日にしましょう。
