And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions.  Joel 2:28

The books of Hosea and Joel were written during times of great wickedness in Israel.  Both of these books tell of terrible tragedies that will come upon Israel because of their disobedience.  Both of these prophets gave stern warnings to the people, telling them that they needed to repent or suffer at the hands of other nations.

Sadly, Israel once again rejected the words of the Lord which were delivered by his prophets.  They continued the pattern of wickedness and disbelief that Israel had followed for many generations.

悲しいことにイスラエルは再び、預言者によって伝えられた主の御言葉を拒みました。彼らはイスラエルが何世代にもわたって続けてきた邪悪と不信仰の習慣を止めませんでした。

Israel had been given great promises, promises of eternal blessings in this world and in the world to come.  Because they rejected the counsel of the prophets, those blessings were held back, reserved for a future time.

イスラエルは偉大な約束を与えられていました。この世と来世における永遠の祝福の約束です。彼らは預言者の勧告を拒んだため、それらの祝福は保留され将来のために取っておかれました。

Both Hosea and Joel remind the people of Israel that there will be great blessings in the future.  They tell the people that, after great suffering and afflictions for many generations, Israel will be restored.  The promised blessings will come.  Israel will once again be gathered.

ホセアもヨエルも、将来大きな祝福がイスラエルの人々にあることを思い起こさせています。彼らは、何世代にもわたる大きな苦しみと苦難の後、イスラエルが回復されることを人々に伝えています。約束された祝福は将来与えられ、イスラエルは再び集められるのです。

In this verse from the prophet Joel, we are taught about things that will happen in the last days.  Joel speaks of events that will happen before the Second Coming of the Savior.  He teaches us that, in the last days, the gospel and all its blessings will be restored.

この節で、預言者ヨエルは終わりの日に起こることを私たちに教えています。ヨエルは、救い主の再臨の前に起こる出来事について語っています。彼は、終わりの日に福音とそのすべての祝福が回復されると教えています。

In verse 27, Joel gives us the word of the Lord concerning the last days, saying that the Lord will be in the midst of Israel and that the Lord will rule over his people.  

27 節で、ヨエルは終わりの日に関する主の言葉を私たちに教えています。主はイスラエルの中におられ、その民を治められると教えています。

We are taught that in the last days, “our sons and our daughters shall prophesy”.  In other words, there will be a righteous generation, a generation that will keep the commandments and that will serve the Lord.  

私たちは終わりの日に「私たちのむすこ、娘は予言をする」と教えられています。つまり、戒めを守り、主に仕える正しい世代が生まれるということです。

We are taught that prophecy and revelation will again be available on the earth.  And, unlike ancient Israel, the spirit of revelation will not be confined to just one prophet.  All who are righteous will be able to receive revelation for themselves.  Those who are obedient to the commandments will be led and guided by the Holy Ghost.  

わたしたちは、預言と啓示が再び地上に与えられると教えられています。そして、古代イスラエルとは異なり、啓示の霊はただ一人の預言者に限定されることはありません。義人は皆、啓示を受けることができます。戒めに従順な人は聖霊に導かれるのです。

This sounds very much like the promises given in verse 46 of Section 121 of the Doctrine & Covenants, where we are told that the Holy Ghost can be our constant companion, if we keep the commandments of the Lord and stay on the covenant path.

これは、教義と聖約第 121 章 46 節で与えられている約束に非常によく似ています。そこでは、私たちが主の戒めを守り、聖約の道を歩み続けるならば、聖霊は私たちの絶え間ない伴侶となると言われています。

As we go through this next week, let’s remember that the Lord knows the beginning from the end.  The Lord knows what will happen and his work will go forth.  These ancient prophets were shown in vision the events of the last days and they taught these things to Israel.  

新しい週が始まります。このことを心に留めて過ごしましょう。主は最初から最後までご存じであることを覚えていましょう。主は何が起こるかをご存じです。そして主の業は前進し続けます。これらの古代の預言者は、終わりの日の出来事を啓示で示され、イスラエルにこれらのことを教えました。

Let’s remember that we are now living in the times when those prophesies are being fulfilled.  Let’s remember that we can each have the constant companionship of the Holy Ghost.  Let’s remember that the gift of revelation has once again been restored to the earth, just as foretold by the Lord’s prophets.  

私たちは今、それらの預言が成就している時代に生きています。私たち一人一人が常に聖霊を伴侶とすることができるのを覚えていてください。主の預言者によって預言されたとおり、啓示の賜物が再び地上に回復されたことを忘れないようにしましょう。
