ところが見よ、主の声が彼に聞こえて、もう一度引き返し、心の中に浮かぶことを、どのようなことであろうと民に預言するように言われた。さて、民は、彼が町に入るのを許さなかった。そこで彼は、町の城壁の上に登り、手を伸ばして大声で叫び、主が心に与えてくださることをすべて民に預言した。ヒラマン書１３：３－４

But behold, the voice of the Lord came unto him, that he should return again, and prophesy unto the people whatsoever things should come into his heart.  And it came to pass that they would not suffer that he should enter the city; therefore he went and got upon the wall thereof, and stretched forth his hand and cried with a loud voice, and prophesied unto the people whatsoever things the Lord put into his heart.  Helaman 13:3-4

In this scripture, we are taught a great lesson by Samuel, the Lamanite.  He was given a difficult assignment by the Lord.  He did what he needed to do to properly fulfill that assignment.

この聖句から私たちはレーマン人サムエルの偉大な教えを学ぶことができます。彼は主から難しい任務を受けました。そして任務をきちんと成し遂げるのに必要なことを行いました。

He has been told to preach to the Nephites.  He took his calling seriously.  He went to the Nephites and began to preach to them.  But they did not want to hear his message.  They made him leave their city.  

かれはニーファイ人に教えを説くよう言われ真剣にその召しを受け止めました。彼はニーファイ人のところに行き、説教し始めました。けれど彼らはメッセージを聞こうとはせず彼を町から追い出したのです。

He was going to go back home.  But the Lord called him again, and told him to go back and preach to the people.

彼は家に戻ろうとしましたが主が彼を再び召し、戻って民に教えるよう言われました。

Now, Samuel could have said, “Lord, I tried my best.  They would not listen to me.  They forced me out of their city.  It is useless to go back.  They will just throw me out again.”  That would have been the easy way out.

ところでサムエルはこう言うことも出来たはずです。「主よ、私は最善を尽くしました、けれど彼らは聞こうとしませんでした。彼らは私を町から追い出しました。戻ることは無意味です。彼らはまた私を追い出すことでしょう」と。そのような簡単な逃げ口上があったのかもしれません。

But Samuel did not give up.  He accepted the assignment from the Lord.  Since they would not let him back in the city, he had to find a different method.  He decided to climb up on the walls of the city and preach to the people.  That was not the easy way.

けれどサムエルは諦めませんでした。主からの任務を引き受けました。民は彼を町に入れされなかったので別の方法を考えました。彼は町の城壁に登り人々に教えたのです。それは簡単なことではありませんでした。

Sometimes, when we are given a difficult assignment, we look for the easy way out.  We tell ourselves that we aren’t very good at this kind of assignment.  We tell ourselves that we have tried our best.  We look for the easy way out.

私たちは時々難しい責任を受けることがあり、簡単に逃げだせる口実を探したりします。私たちはそのような責任はあまり得意ではないと言ったり、最善を尽くしましたと言い訳したりします。逃げ口上を探したりします。

Maybe it is a new calling that we are uncomfortable with.  Maybe it is a home teaching or visiting teaching family that doesn’t really want us to come.  Maybe it is teaching a class with noisy children who don’t want to sit still.  Maybe it is an assignment to give a talk.

おそらくそれは気の進まない責任だったりします。訪問して欲しくないと思っているホームティチング、家庭訪問の担当家族だったりします。静かに座っていることなく、うるさくしている子供をクラスで教えることだったりします。またお話の責任だったりします。

Whatever our calling or assignment may be, we need to remember the example of Samuel.  We need to follow his example.  We need to trust in the Lord.  We need to make every effort to do what the Lord expects of us.

どのような責任や召しであれ、私たちはサムエルの模範を思い起こす必要があります。彼の模範に従う必要があります。主を信頼する必要があります。主が私たちに期待されることをするために全ての努力をする必要があります。

The Lord did not say that all of our assignments would be easy.  He did not say that we would only have assignments that we are comfortable with.  He did not say that we won’t be a little scared sometimes.

主は、私たちの全ての責任は簡単だとは言われませんでした。主は、私たちは気の進む責任だけをもらうとは言われませんでした。主は、少しも怖いことはないとも言われませんでした。

He did say that he will bless us and help us.  If we do our part, the Lord will always guide us.  He will put into our hearts the things that we should say.  Just like Samuel, if we will trust in the Lord, and go forward with faith, we will be able to accomplish what the Lord asks us to do.

（主は）私たちを祝福し助けてくださると言われました。もし私たちのすべきことをするならば主は常に導いてくださいます。私たちが言うべき事柄を心に教えてくださります。サムエルのように私たちは主を信頼し信仰を持って進むならば主がするように言われたことを達成できるのです。

I know that we will be blessed and guided as we faithfully carry out our assignments.  I know that the Lord will give us the words to speak.  I know that the Lord will guide our actions.  I know that we just need to take the first step.

忠実に責任を遂行するならば祝福され導かれると知っています。主は話すべき言葉を与えてくださると知っています。私たちの行いを導いてくださると知っています。私たちはまず最初の一歩を踏み出す必要があると知っています。

If you are struggling with a difficult assignment, remember the example of Samuel.  Go forward with faith.  The Lord will guide and direct you.  You will be surprised at what you can do.

もし難しい責任で悩んでいるならばサムエルの模範を思い出してください。信仰を持って進んでください。主が導き必要な指示を与えてくださります。あなたはどんなことができるか驚くでしょう。
