さて、わたしの愛する同胞よ、これらのことをあなたがたに語ってきたのは、神への義務感をあなたがたに自覚させ、あなたがたが神の御前を罪のない状態で歩めるように、またあなたがたが、かつてそれによって受け入れられた神の聖なる位に従って歩めるようにするためである。アルマ書７：２２

And now, my beloved brethren, I have said these things unto you that I might awaken you to a sense of your duty to God, that ye may walk blameless before him, that ye may walk after the holy order of God, after which ye have been received.  Alma 7:22

This scripture was given by Alma as he was teaching the people of Gideon.  Alma had been the Chief Judge of the land.  He had given up that position because the people were starting to become wicked.  He wanted to be able to preach to all the Nephites.  

この聖句はアルマがギデオンの人々に教えたときのものです。アルマはその土地の大判事でした。彼は民が邪悪になってきたのでその地位を捨て、すべてのニーファイ人に教えたいと思いました。

He taught the people in Zarahemla first, then he went to the city of Gideon to teach those people.  His message was the same every time.  He taught the people about the first principles of the gospel.  He taught them about faith, repentance, baptism by immersion, and the gift of the Holy Ghost by the laying on of hands.

彼はますゼラヘムラの人々に教えました、その後ギデオンの町に行き、そこにいる人々に教えました。彼のメッセージはいつも同じものでした。福音の第一原則について人々に教え、信仰と悔い改め、水に沈めるバプテスマ、按手による聖霊の賜物について教えました。

He also taught them about the coming of the Savior and prepared them to have faith in Jesus Christ.  He taught them many things, telling them to repent and be baptized.

彼らが救い主の再臨とイエス・キリストに信仰を持てるよう準備させました。彼は悔い改めてバプテスマを受けることなど多くのことを教えました。

In this scripture, Alma explains why he taught all those principles.  

この聖句では何故これらすべての原則を教えるのかアルマは説明しています。

This message is just as important for us as it was for the people in Gideon.

このメッセージは、ギデオンの人々と同様、私たちにも大切なものです。

Alma says that he taught these things that he might “awaken you to a sense of your duty to God”.  Alma taught that by doing this, we “may walk blameless before him”.  

アルマは「神への義務感をあなたがたに自覚させ」るようこれらのことを教えたと言っています。アルマは私たちがこれらのことをすることで「神の御前を罪のない状態で歩めるように」なると教えました。

This is our duty as well.  We have been taught all the principles of the gospel, just like the people in Zarahemla and in Gideon.  We know what the commandments are.

これは私たちの義務でもあります。私たちはゼラヘムラやギデオンの人々と同じように福音のすべての原則を教えられました。私たちは戒めが何なのかを知っています。

We have a duty to God.  We have a responsibility to keep the commandments.  We have a duty to be obedient followers of Jesus Christ.

私たちは神に対して義務があります。戒めを守る責任があり、イエス・キリストの従順な従者である義務があります。

If we fulfill our duty, we will receive the blessings promised by Alma in this scripture.  

私たちの義務を全うすればアルマがこの聖句で約束した祝福を受けるのです。

We will be able to “walk blameless before God”.  We will be able to “walk after the holy order of God”.  We will be able to receive all the blessings that come to the faithful.

私たちは「神の御前を罪のない状態で歩める」ようになれるのです。私たちは「神の聖なる位に従って歩めるよう」になり、忠実なものに与えられるすべての祝福を受けることが出来るのです。

May we work hard this week to remember our duty to God.  May we work hard to fulfill that duty.  May we “walk blameless before God” this week.

今週も神に対する義務を自覚して頑張りましょう。その義務を全うできるよう頑張りましょう。今週、「神の御前を罪のない状態で歩め」ますように。

I know that these things are true.  I know that we have a duty to God.  I know that we can keep the commandments.  I know that we will receive all those blessings.

私はこれらのことが真実であると知っています。私たちが神に対して義務を負っていることを知っています。私は戒めを守ることが出来きること、またこれらすべての祝福を受けることも知っています。
