この時代の人々には、悔い改めのほかに何も語って話さない。わたしの戒めを守り、またわたしの命じたとおりにわたしの業を起こす助けをしなさい。そうすれば、あなたは祝福されるであろう。教義と聖約６：９
Say nothing but repentance unto this generation; keep my commandments, and assist to bring forth my work, according to my commandments, and you shall be blessed. Doctrine & Covenants 6:9
This short verse, given by the Lord in a revelation to the Prophet Joseph Smith and to Oliver Cowdery contains an important message for each of us today.
主が啓示を通して預言者ジョセフ・スミスとオリバー・カウドリーに与えられたこの聖句には今日の私たちにとっても大切なメッセージが含まれています。
The phrase “this generation” does not mean just those people who were alive at the same time as the Prophet Joseph Smith. It means everyone who has lived in this dispensation, who are now living, or who will yet live during this dispensation of time. It means you and me.
「この時代の人々」という言葉はジョセフ・スミスが住んでいた時代の人々だけをさしているのではありません。それはこの神権時代に住むすべての人々、つまり今生きている人やこれから生まれてくる人々をも意味しています。あなたや私のことです。
The Prophet is instructed by the Lord to “say nothing but repentance” to us.
預言者は私たちに「悔い改めのほかに何も語ってはならない」と指示を受けています。
Why do you think that is?
それは何故だと思いますか？
This same theme of repentance was mentioned many times during the talks in the last General Conference. President Nelson, in his talk to the Priesthood brothers, spoke on this very topic.
この悔い改めのテーマは前回の総大会のお話しで多く語られました。ネルソン大管長は正にこのテーマについて神権者の兄弟に向けてお話をされました。
We all make mistakes. We all make bad decisions. We all commit sin.
私たちは誰もが間違いを犯します。誰もが悪い選択をしたり、罪も犯します。
When we make a mistake, Satan tries to convince us that we are lost forever. He wants us to believe that we can never be clean again. He wants us to give up and to stop trying. He wants us to be miserable.
私たちが罪を犯すときサタンは出口のない道に迷ったかのように思い込まそうとします。彼は私たちが二度と清くなれないと信じ込ませようとします。そして諦め、努力を止めるよう望んでいます。私たちにも惨めになってほしいのです。
The Savior loves us and wants us to repent. He wants us to do those things what will make us clean again. He wants us to keep moving forward on the covenant path. He wants us to be happy.
救い主は私たちを愛しておられ悔い改めるよう望んでおられます。再び清くなれることを行い、私たちに聖約の道を前進し続けて欲しいと望んでおられます。私たちが幸せになるように望んでおられます。
In the scriptures, we are often compared to sheep. The Lord, the Good Shepherd, watches over his flock and seeks out those sheep that are lost.
聖句の中で時折、私たちは羊にたとえられます。良い羊飼いである主はご自分の群れを見守られ、迷い出た羊を探し見つけられます。
Being compared to a sheep is not really a compliment. Sheep are not very smart. They need to be watched constantly or they will make mistakes. They don’t seem to learn from their mistakes. It is only through the constant effort and love of the shepherd that sheep are able to survive.
羊に例えられるのは褒められる事ではありません。羊はそんなに賢くありません。間違いを犯さないように常に見守られる必要があります。間違いから学ぶこともありません。ただ羊飼いのたゆまない努力と愛によってのみ生きることが出来るのです。
We, like sheep, constantly make mistakes. Fortunately for us, our Good Shepherd is always watching. He is ready to help us recover from our mistakes. He will protect us and guide us to safe pastures. He will help us to be happy.
私たちも羊のように常に間違いを行います。幸いなことに私たちには良い羊飼いが常に見守っていてくださいます。私たちが間違いを犯した後、立ち直る助けをする用意がいつでも出来ています。彼は私たちを守り、安全な牧草地へと導いてくれます。私たちが幸せになる手助けをしてくれます。
The pattern that the Lord gives to the Prophet Joseph Smith in this scripture is a guide for each of us.
この聖句で主が預言者ジョセフ・スミスに与えられた教えは私たち一人一人にとっての指針です。
We need to repent every day. Then, we need to keep the Lord’s commandments. Next, we need to serve in the Lord’s kingdom. Repent. Obey. Serve.
私たちは毎日悔い改める必要があります。そして主の戒めを守る必要があります。続いて主の王国で働く必要があります。悔い改め、従い、仕えるのです。
If we do these things, the Lord tells us we “shall be blessed”.
それらの事をするならば主は「あなたは祝福されるであろう」と言われています。
As we go through this next week, let’s try to a little less like sheep. Let’s try to follow the counsel of our Good Shepherd. Let’s repent, keep the commandments, and serve by ministering to those around us. If we do, we will receive the promised blessings.
この新しい週をもう少し羊のようではなく過ごしましょう。私たちのよい羊飼いの勧告に従ってみましょう。悔い改め、戒めを守り、周りの人々にミニスタリングすることで仕えてみましょう。そうするなら私たちに約束された祝福を受けるでしょう。
