さて、わたしはあなたがたが謙遜であり、従順で素直であり、容易に勧告に従い、忍耐と寛容に富み、すべてのことについて自制し、いつも熱心に神の戒めを守るように、また霊的にも物質にも、必要としているものは何でも求め、与えられるものについては何であろうといつも神に感謝するように願っている。アルマ書７：２３

And now I would that ye should be humble, and be submissive and gentle; easy to be entreated; full of patience and long-suffering; being temperate in all things; being diligent in keeping the commandments of God at all times; asking for whatsoever things ye stand in need, both spiritual and temporal; always returning thanks unto God for whatsoever things ye do receive.   Alma 7:23

In this scripture, Alma teaches us a simple pattern for our lives.  He teaches us how we should live if we want to be happy. 

この聖句ではアルマが（幸福のための）人生の簡単なパターン（思考、行動の模範型）を教えています。彼はもし幸福になりたければどのように生きるべきかを教えています。

There is no great secret to being happy.  No one is left out.  There are no special rules.  Everyone can have the same great blessings.

幸福になる偉大な秘密などありませんし、だれも例外ではありません。特別な規定もありませんし、だれでも同様の偉大な祝福を受けることができるのです。

This is a very different pattern for happiness than the world teaches.  The world teaches us that to be happy we have to be powerful, rich, and famous.   The odd thing is that even those people who are powerful and rich and famous are often still not happy.

これは世間で教えるのとは非常に異なった幸福の思考、行動パターンです。世間では幸せになるためには力を得、お金持ちになり、有名になることだと教えます。おかしなことに力があり、お金持で有名な人々でも幸せではないのをよく見かけます。

In the Lord’s plan, being happy is easy.  We do not have to be a famous movie star.  We do not have to be a great athlete.  We do not have to be a fashion model. 

主の計画では、幸せになることは簡単なことなのです。有名な映画俳優になる必要はありませんし、偉大なスポーツ選手やファッションモデルになる必要もありません。

We just need to “be humble, and be submissive and gentle”.  The world laughs at that idea.  But they are the people that Nephi saw in his dream in the “large and spacious building” who were mocking those who held fast to the iron rod.

私たちはただ「謙虚で従順で質素」であればいいのです。世間ではこの考えを笑うでしょう。しかし彼らはニーファイが夢で見た「大きく広々とした建物」にいて鉄の棒にしっかりつかまっている人々をあざ笑った人々なのです。

Alma teaches us that we need to be “easy to be entreated; full of patience and long-suffering, being temperate in all things”.  This means that we need to be teachable, to serve others, to accept trials when they come, and to be kind to others.

アルマは「容易に勧告に従い、忍耐と寛容に富み、すべてのことについて自制」する必要があると教えました。それは教えを良く聞き、他の誰かに仕え、（どのような）試練も受け入れ、他人に親切である必要があるということです。

He teaches us that we need to keep all the commandments.  Keeping the commandments most of the time is not enough.   We need to be “diligent” in keeping the commandments all the time.  That means that we must work hard every day to do better and to follow what the Lord has taught us.

彼は全ての戒めを守る必要があると教えています。ほとんどの場合に戒めを守るのでは十分ではありません。私たちは常に戒めを熱心に守る必要があります。これは常に日々よりよくできるよう一生懸命働き、主が教えられたことに従うという意味です。

Alma also reminds us that we need to ask Heavenly Father for help and for guidance.  We all have trials and difficulties in this life.  We have both spiritual needs and temporal needs.  Alma teaches us that we should ask for help and for guidance and for blessings.

アルマはまた天父に助けと導きを求める必要があることに気づかせてくれます。私たちは皆人生の中で苦労と試練を経験します。私たちは霊的な必要と現世での必要の両方を持っています。アルマはまた助けと導き、祝福をお願いしなければならないと教えました。

Finally, Alma teaches us that we must remember where the blessings come from.  When we receive blessings, we need to thank Heavenly Father for them.  We need to show our gratitude.  By showing our gratitude, we also show that we are humble, and submissive, and gentle.

最後に、アルマは私たちはどこから祝福が来るのか思い起こすようにと教えました。祝福を受ける時、天父に感謝する必要があります。感謝の気持ちを示す必要があります。感謝を示すことで私たちの謙遜、従順そして素直な態度をも表すのです。

May we try hard this week to follow the pattern that Alma taught us.  May we be humble, and submissive, and gentle.  May we show patience to those around us.  May we be diligent in keeping all the commandments all the time.  May we show our gratitude for the many blessings that we receive.

今週もアルマの教えたパターン（思考、行動の模範型）に従うよう一生懸命努力しましょう。謙遜、従順そして素直でありましょう。周りの人に忍耐を示しましょう。常に全ての戒めに従うよう勤勉でありましょう。自分が受けている多くの祝福への感謝の気持ちを示しましょう。

I know that if we will do these things, we will be on the path to happiness.  I know that our lives will be blessed.  I know that we will be given the strength and guidance that we need.

それらをすることで幸福への細い道を確実に歩めると知っています。私たちの生活が祝福されると知っています。私たちが必要としている力と導きを得られると知っています。
