それゆえ、あなたのすべての生き方により、またすべての祈りにより、すべての訓戒により、すべての行いにより、あなたの兄弟たちを強めなさい。教義と聖約１０８：７－８
Therefore, strengthen your brethren in all your conversation, in all your prayers, in all your exhortations, and in all your doings. And behold, and lo, I am with you to bless you and deliver you forever.
Doctrine & Covenants 108:7-8
This scripture was part of a revelation given by the Prophet Joseph Smith to Lyman Sherman in 1835, when Brother Sherman was released as one of the presidents of the Seventy. It contains an important admonition for us as well.
この聖句は1835年に予言者ジョセフ・スミスからライマン・シャーマンに与えられた啓示です。その時シャーマン兄弟は何人かいる七十人の会長から解任されました。この訓戒は私たちにも大切なものです。
In this scripture, Brother Sherman was told to use all his talents, efforts, and activities to help strengthen the brethren of the Church. Like Brother Sherman, we should do all that we can to help others.
この聖句でシャーマン兄弟は彼のすべての才能や努力、行ないを教会の兄弟たちを助け強めるために使うよう言われました。シャーマン兄弟のように私たちも出来る限りのことをして他の誰かを助けるべきなのです。
How do we help others in our conversation? We can help others in our conversations just by talking to them. Perhaps there is someone at Church that you don’t know. Maybe they are just visiting, or are trying to come back after many years away from the Church, or maybe they are searching for the truth. Sometimes a quick smile and a cheerful greeting can help them. We can help others in all our conversations simply by listening to them. We can help others in our conversations by sharing positive gospel experiences with them.
では会話によって他の人を助けるにはどうすればよいでしょう？ただその人とお話しをすることによって出来ます。たぶん教会の中にまだあなたの知らない人がいるかもしれません。もしかしてその人は訪問者であったり長い間教会から離れていて戻ろうとしている、また真理を探しているのかもしれません。時には笑顔で朗らかな挨拶も助けになります。ただ話を聞くだけでもよいでしょう。自分の福音の良い経験談を分かち合ってもよいでしょう。
How do we help others in our prayers? We all know that power of sincere prayer. There are so many people who need blessings. We can remember them in our prayers. We can pray for their burdens to be lifted, for their problems to be resolved, for their hearts to be touched. We can pray for their safety, for their good health, and for their happiness.
では祈りの中で他の人を助けるにはどうすればよいでしょう？私たちは誠実な祈りの力を知っています。祝福を必要としている人が多くいます。私たちの祈りの中で彼らのことを覚えることが出来ます。彼らの重荷が軽くなり問題が解決し心の琴線に触れるよう祈ることが出来ます。また彼らの安全や健康、幸せを祈ることもよいでしょう。
How do we help others in our exhortations? Exhortations are words of encouragement, or recommendations. We can exhort others by sharing positive ideas with them. We can exhort others by offering simple suggestions. We can exhort others by reminding them of the great blessings that are promised to those who keep the commandments. We can exhort others by teaching them about the principles of the gospel. Most importantly, we can exhort others by bearing our testimonies.
訓戒によって他の人を助けるにはどうすればよいでしょう？訓戒とは励ましや勧めの言葉です。前向きな(積極的な)アイデアを分かち合うことによってできます。簡潔な提案をしたり、戒めを守るものに約束された素晴らしい祝福を思い起こさせるのもよいでしょう。あるいは、福音の原則を教えることによってもできます。しかし、最も大切なことは証を述べることです。
How do we help others in our doings? We can help others by being a good friend. We can help others when they are going through challenges. We can help others by serving in very small ways. We can help others by being kind to all that we meet. We can help others by including them in activities, by visiting the sick or the elderly. We can help others by being good examples of a follower of Jesus Christ.
行いによって他の人を助けるにはどうすればよいでしょう？良い友達でいることによって出来ます。彼らが苦難の中にいるときに助けることも出来ます。小さな方法でも彼らのために何かをしてあげることが出来ます。出会うすべての人に親切であることもよいでしょう。活動に加えてあげたり、病人や年寄りを見舞ったりすることによっても出来ます。イエス・キリストに従うものとして良い模範でいることによっても出来ます。
As we do these things, we will receive the blessings promised in this scripture. As we do our best to strengthen others, in our conversations, on our prayers, in our exhortations, in all our doings, the Lord has promised that he will bless us and deliver us forever.
こうしたことを行うことで私たちはこの聖句にある約束を受けるのです。最善を尽くして私たちが会話や私たちの祈り、訓戒、全ての行いにおいて誰かを強めようとするとき、主は私たちを祝福し苦痛から解放すると約束されています。
These are all small and simple things. These are all things that each of us can do. These are all things that do not require very much effort.
これらはすべて小さく簡単なことです。私たちの誰もが出来ることばかりです。そして特別な努力をしなくても出来ることばかりです。
However small and simple our efforts, the Lord has promised us wonderful blessings in return.
しかし私たちの小さく簡単な努力でも主は見返りとして素晴らしい祝福を約束してくださっています。
Let’s look for opportunities this week to strengthen others. Let’s look for opportunities to strengthen others by our pleasant conversations, by our sincere prayers, by our exhortations of encouragement, and by all that we do each day.
今週、誰かを強める機会を探してみましょう。明るく前向きな会話や誠実な祈り、元気づける訓戒、毎日のすべての行いなどにおいて誰かを力づける機会を探してみましょう。
