そこで、アルマと彼の同胞に負わされた重荷は軽くなった。　まことに主は、彼らが容易に重荷に耐えられるように彼らを強くされた。そこで彼らは心楽しく忍耐して、主の御心にすべてしたがった。モーサヤ書２４：１５

And now it came to pass that the burdens which were laid upon Alma and his brethren were made light; yea, the Lord did strengthen them that they could bear up their burdens with ease, and they did submit cheerfully and with patience to the will of the Lord. Mosiah 24:15

In this scripture, Alma teaches us a very important lesson.

この聖句ではアルマが私たちにとても重要なレッスンを教えています。

Alma had taught the people of king Noah about the gospel. Those who believed what Alma taught had been forced to leave their homes and go into the wilderness. In the wilderness, Alma and his people had been captured by the Lamanites.

アルマはノア王の民に福音を教えました。アルマの教えを信じた人々は彼らの家から追い出され荒れ野に入っていきました。荒れ野ではアルマと彼の民がレーマン人によって捕らわれました。

The Lamanites forced Alma and his people to be slaves. They began to persecute Alma and his people. They made them carry heavy burdens on their backs.

レーマン人はアルマとその民を奴隷にし、彼らを迫害しはじめました。かれらに重荷を背負わせ運ばせました。

Alma and his people prayed for relief. They wanted this difficult trial to end. They knew that only the Lord could help them escape.

アルマとその民は救い、安らぎを求めて祈りました。辛い試練が早く終わって欲しかったのです。かれらは主だけが彼らを救い出してくださることを知っていました。

The Lord heard their prayers. But the trial did not end quickly.

主は彼らの祈りを聞かれましたが試練はすぐには終わりませんでした。

But the Lord blessed the people and gave them strength to get through the trial. Because of the blessings of the Lord, the burdens that they carried were made lighter.

しかし主は彼らを祝福し、試練を乗り越えれるよう強くされました。主の祝福により彼らの背負っている重荷は軽くなりました。

In our own lives, we each have times of trial. We each have “burdens” placed upon our backs. We each pray for relief from those trials and those burdens.

私たち自身の人生でも試練を受けるときはあります。皆、背中に背負う「重荷」を持っています。私たちはそれらの試練や重荷からの救済や安らぎを求め、お祈りをします。

We want each trial to be over quickly.

私たちはそれぞれの試練が即刻終わって欲しいと願っています。

But sometimes, the Lord knows that we need to go through that trial in order to learn. He knows what we need to experience trials in order to have stronger faith. He knows that we need to have trials to see if we will be obedient.

しかし主は私たちが学ぶために時折試練を通る必要があることをご存知です。主は私たちがより強い信仰を得るために試練を経験する必要があることを知っています。主は私たちが従順であるか見るために試練が必要であることを知っています。

If we are faithful, if we pray, if we are obedient, the Lord will make those burdens lighter for us. The trial may not go away quickly, but we will be given strength to get through the trial.

もし信仰強く、祈り、従順であれば主はそれらの試練を軽くしてくださいます。試練はすぐにはなくならないかもしれません。でもその試練に耐える強さを与えてくださいます。

Perhaps the most important part of this scripture is “they did submit cheerfully and with patience to the will of the Lord.” By doing this, they showed their great faith in the Lord.

おそらくこの聖句でもっとも重要な部分は「そこで彼らは心楽しく忍耐して、主の御心にすべてしたがった」というところでしょう。そうすることにより、彼らは偉大な信仰を主に示したのです。

It is very difficult to be patient when a trial comes. It is only through those trials, though, that we are able to learn patience.

試練がきたときに忍耐強くあることは非常に難しいです。しかし「それらの試練を通してのみ」忍耐を学ぶことができるのです。

Even more important is that the people of Alma were “cheerful” during their trial. They did not complain. They did not get angry. They did not say mean things to those around them.

もっとさらに重要なことはアルマの民は試練の中で「心楽しく」あったことです。彼らは不平を言わず、怒ることもありませんでした。周りの人々にひどく当たることもありませんでした。

They trusted in the Lord and went forward with patience and cheerfulness in spite of their trials.

彼らは（受けている）試練にもかかわらず、主を信頼し、忍耐と心楽しい気持ちをもって前に進みました。

As we experience trials in our own lives, may we remember the example of Alma and his people. May we trust in the Lord for his help. May we not be discouraged. May we “submit cheerfully and with patience to the will of the Lord”.

人生で試練を受けるとき、アルマとその民の模範を思い出しましょう。主の助けを信頼しましょう。気落ちしないようにしましょう。「心楽しく忍耐して、主の御心にしたがい」ましょう。

If we follow their example, I know that we will be freed from our trials, just like they were. It may not be soon. It may take time. But we will be freed from our trials. I know this is true.

彼らの模範に従うとき、まさに彼らのように私たちも試練から解放されることを知っています。すぐにではないかもしれません。時間がかかるかもしれません。しかし確かに私たちの試練から解放されるのです。それが真実だと知っています。
