そこで、アルマと彼の同胞に負わされた重荷は軽くなった。まことに主は、彼らが容易に重荷に耐えられるように彼らを強くされた。そこで彼らは心楽しく忍耐して、主の御心にすべてしたがった。
モーサヤ書２４：１５
And now it came to pass that the burdens which were laid upon Alma and his brethren were made light; yea, the Lord did strengthen them that they could bear up their burdens with ease, and they did submit cheerfully and with patience to the will of the Lord. Mosiah 24:15
In this scripture, Alma teaches us a great lesson. He teaches us about one way the Lord answers our prayers.
この聖句でアルマは私たちに大切なレッスンを教えています。彼は主がどのように私たちの祈りに答えられるかについて教えています。
At the time this scripture was given, Alma and his people were captives of the Lamanites. They had great trials and burdens placed on them. They had no way to escape from those burdens.
この時代は、アルマと彼に従う人々はレーマン人の奴隷の状態でありました。大きな試練と重荷を受けており、彼らにはその重荷から抜け出す方法がありませんでした。
While we are not captives, we all do have trials and burdens in our lives. Sometimes, those trials and burdens are due to our own bad choices. Sometimes those trials and burdens are due to the bad choices of other people. Sometimes those trials and burdens are just part of mortal life.
私たちは囚われの状態でなくても、日々の生活の中で試練や重荷を経験します。それらの試練と重荷は自分の間違った選択によるものかもしれませんし、それらの試練と重荷は他の人の間違った選択によるものかもしれません。それらは死すべき世の一部に過ぎません。
Like Alma and his people, we pray for relief when those trials and burdens come into our lives. Sometimes, the Lord gives us relief quickly. Sometimes, relief does not come quickly.
アルマと彼に従う人々のように、私たちも試練と重荷を経験するとき、救いを求めて祈ります。主がすぐに救済してくださることもあれば、助けがすぐには来ないこともあります。
One important thing to remember is that the Lord’s time is not the same as our time.
ひとつ覚えておくべき大切なことは、主の時がいつも私たちの時とは同じではないと言う事です。
In 1839, the Prophet Joseph Smith was confined in Liberty jail. It was a terrible experience for Joseph and Hyrum and those who were imprisoned with them. They had very little food given to them. It was a very cold winter and they did not have any warm clothes. They could not even stand upright because the ceiling was so low.
1839年に預言者ジョセフ・スミスはリバティー監獄に監禁されました。それはジョセフやハイラム、その他一緒に監禁された者にとって酷い経験でした。彼らには少しの食物しか与えられず、とても寒い冬にもかかわらず温かい服もありませんでした。天上が低くて彼らは真っすぐ立つことも出来ませんでした。
They were held in the prison for about 5 months. It was so bad that the Prophet repeatedly asked the Lord for relief. The Lord answers Joseph as recorded in Sections 121 and 122 of the Doctrine & Covenants.
彼らはその監獄に約5か月閉じ込められていました。状況があまりにも酷かったので預言者は何度も主に救済を願いました。主は教義と聖約121章と122章にある答えを授けられました。
The Lord tells the Prophet that his “adversity and afflictions shall be but a small moment”. Five months of pain and discomfort probably did not seem like a “small moment” to the Prophet, but in the Lord’s time, it was just a “small moment”.
主は「逆境と苦難はつかの間にすぎない」と預言者に言われました。5か月間の痛みや辛さは預言者にとっておそらく「つかの間」とは思えなかったでしょう。しかし主の時間ではそれは「つかの間」なのです。
The Lord promises Joseph that great blessings will come if he is faithful and endures to the end.
主はもし彼が忠実で最後まで耐え忍ぶならば大いなる祝福が与えられるとジョセフに約束されました。
So it is in our own lives. Trials and burdens that seem to go on forever may seem unbearable to us, but may be just a “small moment” in the Lord’s time.
私たちの生活の中にもその様なことがあります。永遠に続くように思える試練と重荷は耐えがたく感じます。しかし主の時では「つかの間」にすぎないのかもしれません。
None of us will experience the trials and burdens that the Prophet Joseph Smith had to endure. Even he had to wait on the Lord for deliverance from his trials and burdens.
私たちは誰も預言者ジョセフ・スミスが耐えたような試練と重荷を経験することはないでしょう。彼でさえ、試練と重荷からの解放のため主の時を待たなければならなかったのです。
If we are faithful, if we endure to the end, we will receive the promised blessings from the Lord. Just because the Lord does not send those blessings immediately does not mean that the Lord is not aware of our trials. Like the people of Alma, we need to trust in the Lord. We need to “submit cheerfully and with patience to all the will of the Lord”.
私たちも忠実であれば、そして最後まで堪え忍べば、主から約束された祝福を受けるのです。主がすぐに祝福をくださらないと言うことで、主が私たちの試練をご存知ないと言う事ではありません。アルマの民のように私たちは主を信頼する必要があります。私たちは「心楽しく忍耐して、主の御心にすべてしたがう」必要があります。
As we go through this next week, let’s remember the example set by Alma and his people and by the Prophet Joseph Smith. Let’s remember that the Lord’s time is not the same as our time. Let’s remember that we must endure to the end in order to receive the promised blessings.
