子羊は、『わたしに従いなさい』と人の子らに言われた。それゆえ、愛する同胞よ、進んで御父の戒めに従わないで、わたしたちはイエスに従うことができるだろうか。　　ニーファイ第二書３１：１０

And he said unto the children of men: Follow thou me.  Wherefore, my beloved brethren, can we follow Jesus save we shall be willing to keep the commandments of the Father?  2 Nephi 31:10

In this short scripture, Nephi asks a very important question.  

この短い聖句でニーファイはとても重要な質問を問いかけています。

We all say that we are followers of Jesus Christ.  We have all accepted his gospel.  We have all been baptized.  We are all members of his Church.

私たちみなイエス・キリストに従う者だと言います。私たちはみなキリストの福音を受け入れ、バプテスマを受けました。私たちはみなキリストの教会の会員です。

All those things are important.  But, the real test of our faith is, do we keep the commandments?

それらは全て大切です。しかし私たちの真のテストは戒めを守るかということです。

That is the question that Nephi asks us.

それがニーファイが私たちに尋ねている質問なのです。

It is easy to say we believe in Jesus Christ.  It is easy to say we want to follow him.  It is easy to say that we love him.  But saying those things is not the real test.

私たちがイエス・キリストを信じていると言うのは簡単なことです。キリストに従いたい、またキリストを愛していると言うのは簡単なことです。しかしそのように言うことが真のテストではありません。

To say is easy.  To do is hard.  

言うのは簡単でも、行うのは難しいのです。

We show that we truly love our Savior by keeping his commandments.  All his commandments.  

私たちは戒めを守ることで救い主を真に愛していることを示すのです。全ての戒めをです。

Some people want to choose which commandments to obey.  They want to ignore the commandments that are difficult for them to obey.  But that is not what Nephi teaches us.  We are to obey all the commandments that we have been given.

人によっては従う戒めを選びたい考えます。彼らは従うのが難しいと感じる戒めは無視したがります。しかしそれはニーファイの教える事ではありません。私たちは与えられた全ての戒めに従うよう求められています。

We make that promise each week as we partake of the sacrament.  We promise to always remember him.  We promise to keep his commandments.

私たちは毎週聖餐を取ることでそのように約束を交わすのです。私たちは常に救い主を覚えること、また全ての戒めを守ることを約束します。

Do we do these things?

皆さんはその全て行っていますか？

Every day, people watch us.  They see how we act.  They see how we speak.  They see how we treat others.  

毎日人は私たちを見ています。彼らは私たちがどう振る舞うか見ています。彼らは私たちがどう話し、ほかの誰かをどう扱うか見ています。

By our actions, they can see that we are followers of Jesus Christ.  

私たちの行いによって、彼らは私たちがイエス・キリストに従う者であることが分かるのです。

By our actions, we can bring others to know about the gospel of Jesus Christ.  

私たちの行いによって、私たちは他の誰かをイエス・キリストの福音に導く事が出来るのです。

Let’s try harder this week to be true followers of Jesus Christ.  Let’s try harder to keep all his commandments.  Let’s try harder to keep our sacramental promises.

今週、イエス・キリストの真の従者となるよう更に頑張りましょう。全ての戒めを守るよう更に頑張りましょう。聖餐の約束を守るよう更に努力しましょう。

I know that we will receive great blessings if we do these things.  I know that we will have greater faith.  I know that we will have greater peace.  I know that will have stronger testimonies.

私はそれらを行うとき素晴らしい祝福を受けると知っています。より強い信仰を持てると知っています。私はより平安を受け、より強い信仰を持てると知っています。
