わたしは平安をあなたがたに残して行く。わたしの平安をあなたがたに与える。わたしが与えるのは、世が与えるようなものとは異なる。あなたがたは心を騒がせるな、またおじけるな。
ヨハネ書１４：２７
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let it be afraid. John 14:27
We can find great comfort in this short scripture. This scripture was given by our Savior Jesus Christ to his disciples during his mortal ministry. It applies to us today, just as it did to the members of the Church when Jesus was here on the earth.
この短い聖句から私たちは大きな慰めを見つけることができます。この聖句は救い主が地上で務めを果たしておられた時、弟子たちに教えられたものです。イエス・キリストが地上におられた時、教会の会員に教えられたように、この教えは今日の私たちにもあてはまるのです。
Everyone will agree that this life is full of trouble, trial, and difficulty. Everywhere we turn we see bad things happening. All over the world, people are suffering.
誰でもこの世は問題や試練、困難に満ちていることを知っています。どこを見ても良くないことが起こっています。世界のどこでも人々が苦しんでいます。
In the midst of all this wickedness, how can we find peace?
こうした邪悪の中で私たちはどのように平安を見いだせるのでしょう？
Someone once said, “Trials and tribulations in this life are mandatory. Misery is optional”.
ある人がかつてこんなことを言いました、「試練や苦難はこの世で必須であるが不幸は選択可能である」
That is a true statement.
それは真実です。
We all know and understand that this life is a period of testing. We are here to be tested and to be tried. We are here to show Heavenly Father that we love him and will keep his commandments.
私たちは全員この世が試しの期間であることを理解しています。私たちは試されるためにここにいます。私たちは天父を愛し戒めを守ることを天父に証明するためここにいます。
No one has gone through this life completely free of any trials or difficulties. Some struggle every day just to survive. Others suffer with long term health problems. Still others carry the burden of wayward children or unemployment, or loneliness.
誰一人この世で試練や困難から免除されることはありません。ある人は生きるためだけに毎日苦闘しています。また他の人は健康の問題で長い期間苦しんでいます。今でもわがままな子供や失業、孤独の苦痛を抱えている人がいます。
We are all searching for peace.
誰もが平安を探しています。
While there may never be peace for the whole earth and for all people, it is possible for us to find peace individually.
地上にいるすべての人を平安にするものなどありませんが、私たちが個々に平安を見つけることは可能です。
That is the great promise contained in this scripture.
それがこの聖句にある素晴らしい約束なのです。
The Lord has promised us peace. He gives peace to us. But we have to do our part.
主は私たちに平安を約束してくださいました。しかしそのために私たちはすべきことがあります。
Alma was a very wicked man. An angel appeared to him and chastised him severely for persecuting the Church. Alma repented of his sins and became a great prophet. But, he said that during his repentance, he suffered great torment and never, until he “did cry out unto him … did I find peace to my soul.”
アルマはとても邪悪な人でした。天使が彼に現れ教会を迫害していることを厳しく非難しました。彼はその罪を悔い改め、やがて偉大な預言者となりました。しかし彼は悔い改めの過程で激烈な苦痛にさいなまれ「主に叫び求めるまでは決して自分の霊に安息を受けなかった」と述べています。
We cannot expect to find peace in the world, but we can expect to find peace in the gospel of Jesus Christ. We can find peace to our souls. We can find peace in the midst of trials and difficulties.
私たちはこの世に平安を期待できませんが、イエス・キリストの福音の中に平安を見つけることは期待できます。私たちは自分の霊に安息を見つけれるのです。試練や困難の中にあっても平安を見つけれるのです。
As we turn to the Savior, we will find peace. He is the only source of peace in this life. He has promised us that peace.
救い主に心を向けることで私たちは平安を見つけるのです。救い主がこの世で平安を得る唯一の源なのです。主はその平安を約束してくださいました。
We are told that we should not be troubled or afraid. Heavenly Father is watching over us and knows what is best for us. He will never leave us alone.
私たちは悩んたり不安を感じたりする必要はないと言われています。天父は私たちを見守り、私たちにとって一番良いことをご存知です。私たちを一人にはされません。
This week, in spite of our trials and problems, let’s seek for the peace that comes from our Savior. Let’s not be worried or troubled or afraid. Let’s rely on the blessings that have been promised to us in this scripture. Let’s make this a week of peace.
今週、試練や問題にめげることなく私たちの救い主から来る平安を探し求めましょう。心配や悩んだり不安を持たないようにしましょう。この聖句で約束された祝福を固く信じていましょう。平安で安らぎのある一週間にしましょう。
