しかし、あなたがたが御言葉に養いを与えようとすれば、つまり、その木が生長を始めるときに、非常な熱意と、忍耐を伴う信仰を働かせてその実を期待しながら養いを与えようとすれば、それは根付くであろう。そして見よ、それは成長して永遠の命をもたらす木になるであろう。アルマ書３２：４１

But if ye will nourish the word, yea, nourish the tree as it beginneth to grow, by your faith with great diligence, and with patience, looking forward to the fruit thereof, it shall take root; and behold it shall be a tree springing up unto eternal life.  Alma 32:41

In Chapter 32 of Alma, we read about Alma’s great teachings on faith.  In this chapter, Alma compares faith to a small seed.  He teaches us that we need to take action to have faith.  He teaches us that we need to plant the seed.  

アルマ書32章では信仰についてアルマの素晴らしい教えを読むことができます。この章ではアルマは信仰を小さな種にたとえています。彼は信仰を持つためには行動が必要だと教えています。また彼は種を植える必要を教えています。

But that is not all we have to do.  After we have planted the seed, we need to take care of it.  We need to water it and nourish it.  If we do these things, the seed will grow up into a strong tree.

しかしそれが全てではありません。種を植えた後、面倒を見なければなりません。水をあげ、養わねばなりません。それらをすればその種は強い樹木に成長します。

We have all planted the seed of faith in our own lives.  We have cared for the seed and have watered it.  Because of our efforts, the seed has grown up into a strong tree for each of us.  

私たちは皆、自分の人生に信仰の種を植えました。また世話をし水をあげました。私たちの努力の結果その種は成長し強く丈夫な木に成長しました。

But even the tree needs to be nourished.  Just because we now have faith, it does not mean that we are done.  It does not mean that we do not need any further effort.

しかし木が養われなければように、今、信仰があるからといってそれでよいという訳ではありません。それ以上の努力は必要ないというわけではありません。

Just like a vegetable garden or a flower garden, we need to take care of our “faith” garden.

野菜畑や花壇のように、私たちの信仰の庭の面倒を見なければなりません。

What do we need to do to nourish our tree of faith?

信仰の木を養うのに何をしなければならないのでしょう？

We need to continue to do the small and simple things that we have always been doing.  We need to read the scriptures each day.  In particular, we need to read the Book of Mormon.  If you have not read the Book of Mormon completely in the past 12 months, do so now.

私たちは今までしてきた小さな簡単な事柄を続けて行わねばなりません。毎日聖典を読む必要があります。特にモルモン書を読む必要があります。もし過去１年以内にモルモン書を完全に読みきっていなければ、是非読んでください。

We need to attend all of our Church meetings, every week.

毎週全ての教会の集会に出席する必要があります。

We need to say our prayers every day, in the morning and in the night.

毎日朝晩お祈りをする必要があります。

We need to serve in our callings to the best of our ability.  

自分の責任を最善を尽くして行う必要があります。

We need to attend the Temple as often as we can.  We should make Temple attendance a priority in our lives.

神殿にできる限り参入する必要があります。神殿参入を生活のなかで優先するようにしなければなりません。

We need be kind to others.  We need to look for missionary opportunities.  We need to work on our Family History.  We need to keep the commandments.

他の人々に親切にしなければなりません。伝道活動の機会を探さなければなりません。家族歴史の探求をしなければなりません。戒めを守らなければなりません。

If we do these things “with great diligence, and with patience”, Alma teaches us that our small seed of faith will become “a tree springing up unto eternal life”.

それらの事柄を「非常な熱意と忍耐を伴って」するならば、私たちの小さな種は「成長して永遠の命をもたらす木」になるとアルマは教えています。

I know that these things are true.  I know that we can have great faith by just doing the small and simple things we have been taught.  I know that we will receive all those blessing that the Lord has promised to the faithful Saints if we do our best.

これらのことが真実だと知っています。教えられてきた小さく簡単な事柄を行うことで偉大な信仰を身につけることができると知っています。もしこれをを行うならば主が忠実な聖徒に約束された全ての祝福を受けることができると知っています。
