天国は、畑に隠してある宝のようなものである。人がそれを見つけると隠しておき、喜びのあまり、行って持ち物をみな売りはらい、そしてその畑を買うのである。マタイによる福音書 13:44

Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field. Matthew 13:44

この聖句の中で、救い主は重要な原則をわかりやすい言葉で教えられました。大きな宝物を見つけたら、どんなに幸せかは誰もが理解できます。金や銀などの貴重なものがいきなりたくさん手に入れば嬉しいでしょう。

In this scripture, the Savior taught an important principle in simple words.  We can all understand how happy someone would be if they found a great treasure.  It would be wonderful to suddenly have a lot of gold and silver and other precious things.  

たとえ話の男のように、畑に大きな宝が隠されているのを見つけたら、その宝を手に入れるために全力を尽くすでしょう。たとえ話に出てくる男は、宝を手に入れるために持っていたものをすべて売り払ったと言われています。

Like the man in the parable, if we found a great treasure hidden in a field, we do everything we could to obtain that treasure.  We are told that the man in the parable sold everything that he had so he could obtain the treasure.

私たちは人生の中で、イエス・キリストの福音という「宝」を見つけました。それはどんな金や銀よりもはるかに価値のある宝物です。金と銀は現世で良い生活を送るのに役立つかもしれませんが、金と銀を霊界に持ち込むことは決してできません。

In our own lives, we have found the “treasure” of the gospel of Jesus Christ.  It is a treasure worth far more than any amount of gold or silver.  Gold and silver may help us to have a better life here in mortality, but we certainly cannot take gold and silver with us into the Spirit world.

霊界に持って行ける唯一の宝は、救いの儀式をすべて受け、それらの聖約を生涯守ることによって得られる祝福です。その「宝」は永遠です。

The only treasure that we can take with us into the Spirit world is the blessing that come from receiving all the ordinances of salvation and then keeping those covenants for the rest of our lives.  That “treasure” is eternal.  

福音の教えに出会い、私たちは天父の幸福の計画について学びます。私たちは、この地球に住む前にどこから来たのかを学びます。私たちはなぜこの地上にいるのか、なぜ試練やチャレンジに直面するのかを学びます。私たちはこの世を去った後、どこに行くのかを学びます。この世での行動が将来と永遠の幸福にとってどれほど重要かを学びます。

As we are introduced to the teachings of the gospel, we learn about our Heavenly Father’s Plan of Happiness.  We learn about where we came from before we lived on this earth.  We learn about why we are here on earth and why we face trials and challenges.  We learn about where we can go after we leave this life.  We learn about how important our actions in this life are for our future and eternal happiness.

その宝を手に入れるために文字通り「持っていたものをすべて売り払った」人は少なくありません。初期の開拓者たちは、福音の宝を手に入れるために「持ち物をことごとく売り」、大きな試練に耐えました。イギリスとヨーロッパの初期のメンバーは、その宝物を手に入れるために家を出てアメリカに来るために文字通り「持っていたものをすべて売り払い」ました。家族の中で最初に教会に加わった多くの人々は、その宝を手に入れるために文字通り「持ち物をすべて売り払った」のです。

Many people have literally “sold all that they had” to obtain that treasure.  The early pioneers “sold all that they had” and suffered great trials in order to obtain the treasure of the gospel.  Early members in England and in Europe literally “sold all that they had” to leave their homes and come to America to obtain that treasure.  Many people who were the first in their family to join the Church literally “sold all that they had” to obtain that treasure.  

あなたは持っているものをすべて喜んで売りますか？ 悪い習慣をやめたいと思いますか。過去の罪を進んで悔い改めたいと思いますか。私たちはすべての戒めを喜んで守りますか。約束された宝を受け取るために必要なすべてのことを進んで行いたいですか。

Are we willing to sell all that we have?  Are we willing to give up bad habits?  Are we willing to repent of our past sins?  Are we willing to keep all the commandments?  Are we willing to do everything that is necessary to receive the promised treasure?

「持っているものをすべて売る」ということは、多くの場合、試練や困難に苦しむことを意味します。それは、考えや習慣が福音の標準にそぐわない友人と離れることを意味する場合もあります。それは時に自分の家族から離れることを意味します。それは常に、自分自身の生活を変え、聖約の道を歩むことを意味します。

“Selling all that we have” often means suffering trials and difficulties.  It sometimes means leaving behind friends whose ideas and habits are not in keeping with gospel standards.  It sometimes means being estranged from our own families.  It always means changing our own lives and walking on the covenant path.

「持っているものをすべて売る」ことは、救い主イエス・キリストに対する信仰の試しです。信仰を示すと、宝を享受し始めます。モロナイは、「信仰が試されてからでなければ、証は得られないからである」と教えています（エテル12：6）。アルマは、信仰への道には個人的な行動が必要であることを教えています。私たちが探し求めている宝を受け取る前に、種を蒔き、世話をし、成長の手助けをしなければなりません。

“Selling all that we have” is a test of our faith in our Savior Jesus Christ.  As we demonstrate our faith, we begin to receive the treasure.  Moroni teaches us that “you receive no witness until after the trial of your faith” (Ether 12:6).  Alma taught us that the pathway to faith requires personal action.  We have to plant the seed, take care of it, and help it grow before we can receive the treasure that we seek.

新しい週が始まります。このことを考えながら、宝を手に入れるために「持っているものをすべて売り」、自分の罪や悪い習慣をすべて手放すつもりがあるかどうかを考えてみましょう。金と銀、名声と権力はこの世でしか役に立たないことを忘れないでください。「すべてを売る」者に約束された素晴らしい祝福、大きな宝があることを覚えていましょう。私たちの永遠の幸福は、毎日行う選択にかかっていることを忘れないでください。 最高の宝である永遠の幸せを手に入れるために、全力を尽くしましょう。

As we go through this next week, let’s consider whether we are willing to “sell all that we have” and to give away all our sins and bad habits, in order to obtain the treasure.  Let’s remember that gold and silver, fame, and power are useful only in this life.  Let’s remember the wonderful blessing, the great treasure, that is promised to those who “sell all”.  Let’s remember that our eternal happiness depends on the choices we make here, each day.  Let’s do everything that we can to obtain the greatest treasure of all, eternal happiness.
