しかし、シオンで働く者は、シオンのために働くべきである。もしも金銭のために働くならば、滅びるであろう。ニーファイ第二章２６：３１

But the laborer in Zion shall labor for Zion; for is they labor for money they shall perish. 2 Nephi 26:31

We all have callings and assignments in the Church.  Some of our callings do not take too much time.  Some of our callings require a lot of time.  

私たちは皆、教会で責任やアサイメントを受けます。責任にはそれほど時間がかからないものもありますし、反対にたくさん時間がかかるものもあります。

Missionaries devote 100% of their time to the Lord.  Serving as a Bishop, a Relief Society president, and other similar callings require a great deal of time.

宣教師は100% の時間を主にささげます。ビショップや扶助協会の会長、ほか似たような責任で奉仕するには多大な時間を費やします。

Even “small” assignments require us to use some of our time to serve.  If we are serving as we should, every calling requires us to give up some of our time and use it for the work of the Lord.

たとえ「小さな」アサイメントでも奉仕するのに多少の時間が必要になります。もし私たちが従順に奉仕をしていればどのような責任でも多少の時間を犠牲にして主のために働かねばなりません。

Home teaching, visiting teaching, teaching a class, serving on a Relief Society committee, helping to clean the chapel, attending the Temple, doing family history research, all these things require our time.

ホームティーチング、家庭訪問、クラスで教えること、扶助協会委員会で働くこと、教会堂の清掃を手伝うこと、神殿に参入すること、家族歴史を探求すること、これらすべてのことをするには時間を必要とします。

Why do we do this?  

ではなぜ私たちはそれをするのでしょうか？

Have you ever thought about how much someone would have to pay you to do all these things if this were just another job?  

もしこれらが単なる仕事だとしたら、これらすべてのことをするのにあなたにいくら支払わねばならないか考えてみたことがありますか。

How much would someone have to pay you to keep visiting a family that does not want to see you?  How much would someone have to pay you to keep teaching children who won’t sit still and listen to your lesson?  How much would someone have to pay you to spend hours trying to find one of your ancestors?

あなたに会いたくない家族を訪問し続けるために、いくら人はあなたに支払わねばならないでしょうか。おとなしく座ってあなたのレッスンを聞かない子供を教えるために、いくら人はあなたに支払わねばならないでしょうか。あなたの先祖を何時間も費やし探し出すために、いくら人はあなたに支払わなければならないでしょうか。

If this was just another job, I wouldn’t do any of it.  If it was just another job, even if someone paid me, I wouldn’t want to do it.  If this were just another job, I would quit.

もしこれが単なる仕事ならば私はこれらのどれもしないでしょう。もし単なる仕事で人が私に支払うとしても私はしたくはないでしょう。もし単なる仕事ならば私はやめるでしょう。

But we know that this is NOT just another job.  It is the work of the Lord.  

しかしこれは単なる仕事では「ない」ことを知っています。これは主の業なのです。

We do all these things because we love the Lord.  We do these things because we want to serve him by helping others.  We do all these things because we receive wonderful blessings, blessing that are worth more than money.

私たちは主を愛しているのでこれらすべてのことを行うのです。他の誰かを助けることで主に仕えたいので私たちはこれらのことをするのです。金銭より遥かに価値のある祝福を受けたいので私たちはこれらのことをするのです。

It is amazing that when we do even small things to help others, we receive great blessings.  We feel good.  We feel close to our Heavenly Father.  We feel happy.

他の誰かを些細なことで助けるときでさえ、大きな祝福を受けるのは驚きです。私たちはよい気持ちがし、天父を近くに感じ、幸せを感じます。

The whole world is trying to find happiness. They try to buy happiness.  They think that if they had lots of money, they would be happy. 

世界中の人々は常に幸せを見つけようとしています。幸せを買おうとします。彼らはたくさんのお金があれば幸せになれると考えています。

But they do not understand.  Finding happiness is very easy.  Finding happiness is free.  All we have to do is to serve others.  When we give of our time to help others, we receive back much more than we give.

しかし彼らは幸せを見つけることはとても簡単であることを理解していないのです。幸せを見つけることは無償です。すべきことはただ他の誰かのために仕え奉仕することなのです。自分の時間を使って誰かを助けるとき、私たちは与えた以上のものを受け取るのです。

As we serve in our callings this week, let us try to remember why we are doing these things.  Let us remember that we are serving our Heavenly Father’s children.  Let us remember the great blessings that we receive by serving.

今週、自分の責任を果たすとき私たちはこれらのことをなぜ行っているのか思い出してみましょう。天父の子供たちに仕えていることを思い出してみましょう。大きな祝福が奉仕することで受けられることを思い出してみましょう。

I know that as we serve, in whatever assignment we may have, we will be blessed.  I know that we can be happy by doing simple acts of kindness for others.  I know that we will receive a much greater reward for our service than just money.  We will receive all the blessings that our Heavenly Father has promised to his children.

私はどんな責任、アサイメントであっても奉仕するときに祝福を受けることを知っています。私は小さな行動でも誰かに親切にすることで幸せになれると知っています。私は奉仕によってお金には換えがたいより大きな報いを受けることを知っています。私たちは天父が子供たちに用意されたすべての祝福を受けるのです。
