そして、彼らの中には引き続き平和があり、また彼らが神の言葉に注意を払い、勤勉であったために、教会は非常に大きな繁栄をみた。神の言葉はヒラマンとシブロン、コリアントン、アンモン、彼らの同僚たち、および悔い改めのためのバプテスマを受けて神の聖なる位に聖任され、民の中で教えを説くように遣わされたすべての人により、彼らに告げ知らされたのである。アルマ書４９：３０

Yea, and there was continual peace among them, and exceedingly great prosperity in the church because of their heed and diligence which they gave unto the word of God, which was declared unto them by Helaman, and Shiblon, and Corianton, and Ammon and his brethren, yea, and by all those who had been ordained by the holy order of God, being baptized unto repentance, and sent forth to preach among the people.  Alma 49:30

In the 49th chapter of Alma, we read about a period of trouble and wars.  Under the military leadership of Moroni, the Nephites were successful in defending their lands and their people from their enemies.  

アルマ書49章では困難や戦争の時期について述べられています。モロナイの指揮軍のもと、ニーファイの民は敵から彼らの土地と民を守ることができました。

As often happens during a period of warfare, the people had become hardened.  With the arrival of peace, the leadership of the Church began again to preach the doctrines of the gospel to the people.  As a result of their preaching and teaching and ministering, the people repented and received great blessings.  

戦争中にはよくある話ですが人々は頑なになっていきました。平和が訪れると教会の指導者は人々に福音の教義を再び教え始めました。説教や教え、ミニスタリングの結果として人々は悔い改め、大きな祝福を受けました。

It is interesting to note that, while names of some of the Church leaders are mentioned in this verse, Alma also mentions that they were not the only ones who helped teach the people.

この節で何人かの教会指導者の名前が述べられていますが、アルマは人々を教えるのを手助けしたのが彼ら以外にもいたことに言及しています。

Alma says that the leaders of the Church were assisted by “all those…who had been baptized unto repentance”.  Those who had been baptized were “sent forth to preach among the people”.

アルマは、教会の指導者たちは「悔い改めのためにバプテスマを受けたすべての人たち」によって助けられたと述べています。バプテスマを受けた人たちは「人々に延べ伝えるために送られ」ました。

In other words, it was not just the leaders of the Church who participated in the work of the Lord.  It was not just the great missionaries who participated in the work of the Lord. Everyone who had been baptized was “sent forth to preach among the people”.

言い換えると、主の業に携わったのは教会の指導者だけではなかったと言うことです。主の業に携わっていた素晴らしい宣教師だけでもなかったのです。バプテスマを受けたすべての者が「人々に延べ伝えるために送られ」ました。

It is the same today.  The leaders of the Church, the prophets and apostles, the General Authorities, the Stake Presidents, the Bishops, they all have heavy and difficult assignments to carry out the work of the Lord.  

今日でもそれは同じことです。教会の指導者、預言者や使徒たち、中央幹部、中央役員、ステーク会長、ビショップなど彼らはすべて主の業を推し進めるために重要な難しいアサイメントを受けています。

But have we not also been “baptized unto repentance”?  Have we not been “sent forth to preach among the people”?

しかし、私たちも「悔い改めのためのバプテスマ」を受けていませんか？私たちも「人々に延べ伝えるために送られ」ていませんか？

In this case, “to preach among the people” may mean ministering, helping those in need, sharing the doctrines of the gospel with our friends, or simply being a good example of a follower of Jesus Christ.  It is our duty as members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints to help those who are not yet members of the Church, those who may have strayed from the covenant path, and even those who are still firmly on the covenant path.  

この場合、「人々に延べ伝える」とはミニスタリングや助けの必要な人を助けたり、友達に福音の教義を分かち合ったり、イエス・キリストの従者として良い模範を示すことを意味するのかもしれません。それは、まだ教会員でない人や聖約の道から逸れた人、今でもしっかりと聖約の道を歩んでいる人を助けるという末日聖徒イエス・キリスト教会の会員としての義務なのです。

We all have callings, assignments, responsibilities.  We are expected to “preach among the people”. We are not to sit idly by, expecting all the work to be done by the Church leadership.  In the Church, every member is important. Every calling is important. Everyone has opportunities to serve and to grow.

私たちは皆、召しやアサイメント、責任を持っています。私たちは「人々に延べ伝える」よう期待されています。私たちはすべての業が教会の指導者によって行われると期待し、ぼんやりと座っているべきではありません。教会ではすべての会員が大切です、すべての召しが大切です。すべての人が奉仕し成長する機会を持っています。

As we go through this next week, let’s remember what Alma taught us about actively serving in the work of the Lord.  Let’s remember that we each have responsibilities and obligations to serve. Let’s do our best to “preach among the people”.

主のみ業に積極的に勤めるというアルマの教えを覚えて来週を過ごしましょう。私たちには奉仕する責任と義務がある事を忘れないようにしましょう。「人々に延べ伝える」ために最善を尽くしましょう。
