これは非常な喜びではなたっただろうか。見よ、これは心から悔いて謙遜に幸福を求める者でなければ得られない喜びである。アルマ27:18
Now was not this exceeding joy? Behold, this is the joy which none receiveth save it be the truly penitent and humble seeker of happiness. Alma 27:18
Everyone wants to be happy. Everyone. But few people know how to find happiness.
誰でも幸せになりたいと思っています。誰もがそうです。でもほんの僅かの人しか幸せになる方法を知りません。
People try all kinds of different ideas to find happiness. Most of those ideas do not work.
人は幸せを見つけようとあらゆることを試みます。その殆どは上手くいきません。
Some people think that happiness comes from drinking alcohol. They think they can only be happy if they are drinking with their friends. They think that the more they drink, the happier they will be.
ある人はお酒を飲むことが幸せだと考えます。彼らは友達とお酒を飲んでいる時だけが幸せだと考えます。ですからお酒を飲めば飲むほどもっと幸せになれると考えます。
Some people think that happiness comes from having lots of money. They think that they can buy happiness. They think that having fancy cars, or big houses, or lots of clothes will make them happy.
またある人は沢山お金を持つことが幸せだと考えます。彼らは幸せを買うことが出来ると考えます。素敵な車や大きな家、沢山の洋服を持てば幸せになれると考えます。
Some people think that happiness comes from using mind-altering drugs. They think that they can be happy if they can forget reality. They sometimes try many different types of drugs, searching for the one that will make them happy.
ある人は気分の変化を起こし認知力をゆがめる薬物を使うことで幸せになれると考えます。彼らは現実を忘れることで幸せになれると考えます。彼らは幸せになれるものを探し、時々変わった薬物を試したりします。
The problem is, none of these ideas work. They may bring short-term happiness, but it never lasts.
問題なのはそのどれも役に立たないということです。ただ短期的で長く続かない幸せだけをもたらすのです。
Alma teaches us very clearly how to find true happiness.
アルマは真の幸福はどうして得られるのか明確に教えています。
We find true happiness by repenting of our sins and by keeping the commandments of the Lord.
私たちは罪を悔い改め、主の戒めを守り続けることから真の幸福を見つけることが出来ます。
This seems too simple for many people. It sounds too boring. It sounds “old fashioned”.
多くの人にはそれは単純すぎたり、つまらなく、「時代遅れ」だと感じるかもしれません。
But it is the only way to find true happiness.
しかしそれは真の幸福を見つけるための唯一の道なのです。
When Alma writes this scripture, he had just met the sons of Mosiah who were returning from 14 years of missionary work. They had been teaching the gospel to the Lamanites and had had much success. Alma had served as the head of the Church for the Nephites during that same time.
アルマがこの聖句を書いたとき、14年間の伝道の旅から帰っていたモーサヤの息子たちに会いました。彼らはレーマン人に福音を延べ伝え、成功を収めていました。アルマはそのころニーファイ人の教会の代表を務めていました。
When they all met, it was a time of great joy. They were happy because of the blessings that had come to them because of their service in the Lord’s work. They had been instruments in the hands of the Lord to bring the light of the gospel to many people.
彼らが一堂に会した時、大きな喜びを感じました。彼らは主の業に奉仕したことから来る祝福で幸せでした。彼らは多くの人々に福音の光をもたらすために主のみ手となり働いてきました。
The joy they felt was from the Spirit of the Lord touching their hearts. Nothing can compare with this joy.
彼らが感じた喜びは主の御霊がもたらすもので彼らの心に感動を与えました。他では見からない喜びです。
Perhaps you have felt this joy as you served in your callings. Perhaps you have felt this joy as you have been in the Temple. Perhaps you have felt this joy as you watched your children make righteous choices.
あなたも召しを果たす時この喜びを感じたことがあるかもしれません。神殿に行くときこの喜びを感じたことがあるかもしれません。あなたの子供が正しい選択をするのを見る時この喜びを感じたことがあるかもしれません。
True happiness, this “exceeding joy”, comes only to those who keep the commandments and do their best to serve the Lord.
この「非常な喜び」真の幸福は戒めを守り、最善を尽くして主に仕えるものにしかやってきません。
It is a very simple idea. No one is excluded. Everyone can feel this “exceeding joy”. The Lord wants to give us this joy. We just need to do our part and follow the counsel given by Alma.
とても単純な考えです。誰も例外ではありません。誰でもこの「非常な喜び」を感じることが出来ます。主は私たちにこの喜びを受けるよう願っておられます。私たちはただアルマの勧告に従い、自分のすべきことをするだけでよいのです。
As we go through this next week, let’s follow the teaching of Alma. Let’s be like Alma and the sons of Mosiah. Let’s be worthy to receive that “exceeding joy” promised by the Lord.
アルマの教えに従って今週を過ごしましょう。アルマとモーサヤの息子たちのようでありましょう。主が約束されたその「非常な喜び」を受けるにふさわしくいましょう。
