さて、死と復活の間の人の状態についてであるが、見よ、天使がわたしに知らせてくれたことによれば、すべての人の霊は、この死すべき体を離れるやいなや、まことに、善い霊であろうと、彼らに命を与えられた神のみもとへ連れ戻される。そして、義人の霊はパラダイスと呼ばれる幸福な状態、すなわち安息の状態、平安な状態に迎え入れられ、彼らはそこであらゆる災難と、あらゆる不安と憂いを離れて休む。アルマ書４０：１１−１２

Now, concerning the state of the soul between death and the resurrection – Behold, it has been made known unto me by an angel, that the spirit of all men, as soon as they are departed from this mortal body, yea, the spirits of all men, whether they be good or evil, are taken home to that God who gave them life.  And then it shall come to pass, that the spirits of those who are righteous are received into a state of happiness, which is called paradise, a state of rest, a state of peace, where they shall rest from all their troubles and from all care, and sorrow.  Alma 40:11-12

In the 40th chapter of Alma, the prophet Alma is teaching his son, Corianton.  Corianton, like many of us, had many questions about what happens after we die.  

アルマ書40章では、預言者アルマが息子のコリアントンに教えています。私たちの多くもそうであるように、コリアントンは死後どうなるのか多くの疑問を持っていました。

In these verses, Alma teaches Corianton, and us, about the things that will happen when we leave this mortal existence.

これらの文節で、アルマは私たちがこの死すべき世を離れるときに起こる事柄について、コリアントンと私たちに教えています。

This is something that people throughout history have wondered about.  Death is a very scary thing to many people. They fear death because they do not understand it.  Many of them think that, once a person dies, it is the end of everything. They think that they will never see that person, that family member, that loved one, again.   

それは長きにわたって人々が知りたいと思ってきたことです。死は多くの人にとってとても怖いことです。彼らは理解が足りないので死を恐れます。彼らの多くは、人が一度死ぬとそれはすべての終わりだと考えます。彼らは家族や愛する人に二度と会えないと考えます。

That is a very dark thought.  It leads to hopelessness and despair.  If this mortal life is all that there is, why try to do hard things?  If this mortal life is all there is, why not just do anything that makes you happy in this life?  This is one of Satan’s tricks.

それはとても暗く悲しい考えです。それは絶望と失望につながります。もしこの死すべき世がそれだけものであれば、何故難しいことを試みるのでしょう。もしこの死すべき世がそれだけものであれば、この世で幸福になれることだけをしないのでしょうか？それはサタンの罠のひとつです。

With the restoration of the gospel, we can understand the great Plan of Happiness.  We know that this life is only one small part of our eternal existence. We know that we lived with our families before we came to this life.  We know that, if we obey the commandments and if we receive the ordinances of the Priesthood, we can live with our families again for eternity.

福音の回復によって、私たちは大いなる幸福の計画を理解することができます。この世が永遠の存在においてほんの一握りである事を私たちは知っています。この世に来る前に私たちは家族と共に暮らしていたことを知っています。私たちは戒めに従い、神権の儀式を受けるならば永遠に家族と共に暮らせることを知っています。

What a glorious doctrine!  It brings hope and light to our lives.  

それは私たちの生活に希望と光をもたらしてくれる何と輝かしい教義でしょう。

As Alma teaches us, when we leave this mortal life, we go back home to the Spirit World.  Everyone who lives on the earth goes there. Good or bad, righteous or wicked, we all go to the Spirit World.  

アルマが教えるように、私たちがこの死すべき世を去る時、霊界に戻ります。この地上に暮らす誰もがそこに行きます。良きも悪しきも、善良な者も邪悪な者も、私たちは全員霊界に行きます。

The big difference is that those who were righteous in this life receive a wonderful blessing.  

Alma teaches us that the righteous are received into a state of happiness.  He teaches us that we will be free from all trials and troubles. We will not have any more problems or sorrow.  We will have joy and will be able to be with our families once again!

大きな違いは、この世で善良な者は素晴らしい祝福を受けるということです。アルマは善人は幸福な状態を受けると私たちに教えています。彼はすべての試練と苦難から解放されると教えています。私たちは喜びを受け、再び家族と共に暮らすことができるのです。

Everyone has sorrows, troubles, and trials in this life.  But we need to look beyond this short life and keep an eternal perspective.  We need to remember the great Plan of Happiness. We need to remember what the Lord has promised to us.

誰もがこの世で悲しみや苦難、試練を経験します。しかし、私たちはこの短い人生の先を見つめ、永遠の視点を持ち続ける必要があります。大いなる幸福の計画を覚えている必要があります。主が私たちに約束されたことを忘れないようにしなければなりません。

As we go through this next week, let’s think about the great eternal blessings that we will receive.  Let’s remember that the trials and sorrows of this life are only temporary. Let’s remember that we can be with all of our family members again, if we keep the commandments.  

私たちが受ける大いなる永遠の祝福を考えながら来週を過ごしましょう。この世で経験する試練や悲しみがほんの一時的なものであることを覚えていましょう。私たちが戒めを守るならば、再び家族と一緒に暮らせることを覚えていましょう。
