熱心に探し、常に祈り、そして信じていなさい。あなたがたがまっすぐに歩み、互いに交わした聖約を思い起こすならば、万事があなたがたの益となるようにともに働くであろう。教義と聖約９０：２４
Search diligently, pray always, and be believing, and all things shall work together for your good, if ye walk uprightly and remember the covenant wherewith you have covenanted one with another. Doctrine and Covenants 90:24
This short scripture from the Doctrine & Covenants gives us very clear instructions as to how we should live our lives. It reminds us of five things that we must do if we are to be happy.
教義と誓約のこの短い聖句は、私たちがどう生きるべきか明確に教えています。私たちが幸福でいるために守るべき５つの事がらを教えています。
First, we are to “search diligently”. This means we are to learn about the gospel. We are to study the scriptures. We are to study the General Conference talks. We are to attend our Sunday meetings.
まず、「熱心に探す」ということです。これは福音を学ぶと言う意味です。聖典から学び、総大会のお話を勉強し、日曜日の集会に出席するということです。
Second, we are to “pray always”. We must pray every day. We must pray for guidance and for help. We must pray for the Holy Ghost to be with us.
二つ目に、「常に祈る」ということです。私たちは毎日祈らねばなりません。導きや助けを求めて祈る必要があります。聖霊が私たちとともにいるよう祈らねばなりません。
Third, we must “be believing”. This means that we just have faith. We do not get all the answers to our questions immediately. We must plant the seed, as Alma teaches us.
三つ目に、「信じている」ということです。それは信仰を持つと言う意味です。私たちが抱えるすべての問題への回答が即座に与えられるわけではありません。私たちはアルマが教えるように信仰の種をまかねばなりません。
Fourth, we must “walk uprightly”. This means that we must keep the commandments. We must keep all the commandments, not just those that are easy for us to keep. We must be honest in all that we do.
四つ目に、「真っ直ぐに歩む」ということです。それは戒めを守らねばならないという意味です。自分が守りやすいものだけでなく全ての戒めを守らねばなりません。全ての行いにおいて正直でなければいけません。
Fifth, we must “remember the covenant” that we have made. We have each made covenants. We made a covenant when we were baptized. Each week, as we take the sacrament, we make a covenant. We made more covenants when we went to the Temple. We must remember those covenants. We must keep those covenants completely.
五つ目に、主と交わした「誓約を覚える」ということです。私たちは各自誓約を交わしています。バプテスマを受けたとき誓約を交わしました。毎週聖餐をとるとき誓約を交わします。神殿に行くとき更に多くの誓約を交わします。私たちはそれらの誓約を覚え、完全に守り続けねばなりません。
If we do these things, we are promised that “all things shall work together for your good”. This means that we will receive the blessings that we need. It means that we will be guided and protected. It means that we will be happy.
そうするならば、「万事があなたがたの益となるようにともに働くであろう」と私たちに約束されています。それは私たちが必要とする祝福を受けるという意味です。私たちは導かれ、守られると言う意味です。そして私たちは幸せになると言うことです。
Now, one important thing to remember is this. It does not say that “all things will work together for your good TODAY”. Everything happens in the Lord’s own time. We need to experience trials and difficulties in this life. That is the plan we agreed to. But we have a sure knowledge that, at some point, we will receive that great happiness.
ここでひとつ忘れてはならない重要な事があります。それは「今日、万事があなたがたの益ごなるようにともに働くであろう」とは述べていないことです。すべての事は主の時間で起こります。私たちは試練や困難を生きている間、経験しなければなりません。それは私たちが合意した計画なのです。しかし私たちはいつの日か素晴らしい幸福を受けるという確かな知識を持っています。
In the October 2015 General Conference, Sister Marriott gave a wonderful talk on this topic. She said that if we are faithful, “it will all work out”. She also taught us, “but it will not all work out NOW”. That is a very good talk to read and to study.
2015 年秋の総大会でマリオット姉妹がこのテーマについて素晴らしいお話をされました。彼女はもし私たちが忠実ならば「きっとうまくいく」と話しました。彼女は「きっと今うまくいく」と言うことではないとも教えています。とても良いお話ですから是非読んで見てください。
I know that these things are true. I know that if we follow the five steps that we are taught in this scripture, we will have all things work together for our good. I know that we must have trials and hardships in this life. But I also know that the Lord will guide us and bless us as we work hard to keep his commandments. I know that we will be blessed in all things.
私はそれらが真実だと知っています。この聖句で教える五つのステップに従うならば万事が私たちの益となるようにともに働くことを私は知っています。人生での試練や苦難は不可欠であることを私は知っています。しかし私たちが戒めを熱心に守るなら主は私たちを導き、祝福してくださることも知っています。私たちは全てのことにおいて祝福を受けることを知っています。
Let’s try hard this week to follow all five of these steps. Let’s try hard to be perfect in this. Let’s be believing and go forward with faith.
