しかし、主は彼らの罪悪のために、彼らの嘆願を聞き届けるのを遅くされた。それでも主は、彼らの嘆願を聞き届け、レーマン人の心を和らげて下さったので、レーマン人はリムハイの民の重荷を軽くするようになった。しかし主は、彼らの奴隷の状態から救い出すのを、ふさわしいとは思わなかった。モーサヤ書２１：１５
And now the Lord was slow to hear their cry because of their iniquities; nevertheless the Lord did hear their cries, and began to soften the hearts of the Lamanites that they began to ease their burdens; yet the Lord did not see fit to deliver them out of bondage. Mosiah 21:15
Limhi was the son of king Noah. King Noah and his evil priests had killed the prophet Abinadi. After the death of Abinadi, the Lamanites attacked king Noah and his people. King Noah was killed and the Lamanites captured all of his people. The Lamanites placed heavy burdens on Limhi and his people.
リムハイはノア王の息子でした。ノア王と邪悪な祭司たちは預言者アビナダイを殺してしまいました。アビナダイの死後、レーマン人はノア王とその民を襲い、ノア王は殺されレーマン人はその民全員を捕虜にしました。レーマン人はリムハイと彼の民に重荷を背負わせました。
In this scripture, the people of Limhi are suffering great trials. They are beginning to repent and to pray for help from the Lord.
リムハイの民はこの聖句の中で辛い試練に苦しんでいました。彼らは悔い改め、主からの助けを祈り始めました。
There is an important message for us in this scripture.
この聖句には私たちにとって大切な教えが含まれています。
Even though the people of Limhi were beginning to repent, the Lord did not immediately remove all the trials from them. He did ease their burdens, but did not free them from bondage.
リムハイの民は悔い改めを始めていたにも関わらず、主は彼らの試練をすぐには取り去ってくださいませんでした。主は重荷を軽くしてくださいましたが束縛からは開放してくださいませんでした。
Why?
何故でしょう？
The Lord certainly had the power to free them from bondage immediately. The Lord could have taken away all their burdens and problems. But he didn’t.
主は明らかに彼らを束縛からすぐに開放する力をお持ちでした。主は彼らの重荷と問題を取り除くことはお出来になりましたが、そうなさらなかったのです。
Just like the people of king Noah, we sometimes make mistakes. Some of the mistakes are small. Some of the mistakes may be large. Hopefully, we will repent quickly when we make mistakes.
ノア王の民のように私たちも時々間違いを犯します。その間違いは小さいこともありますし大きいこともあります。私たちが間違いを犯す時、なるべく早く悔い改めができることを願っています。
But even when we repent quickly, we still have to suffer the consequences of our bad decisions. Even though we sincerely repent and pray for relief, the Lord sometimes lets us suffer the consequences of our bad decisions for a period of time.
しかし私たちは早く悔い改めたとしても自己の誤った判断の結果に苦しまねばなりません。たとえ私たちは誠心誠意悔い改め、安らぎを祈っても主は時にはある期間自己の誤った判断の結果に苦しむままにされます。
As a little child, you may have accidently touched something that was very hot. Your fingers were burned. It hurt very much. Your parents immediately helped you by putting medicine and bandages on your fingers. But it took time for your fingers to heal. Even though you were sorry, and even though your parents helped you immediately, your suffering continued for a period of time.
あなたも小さな子供の時、誤ってとても熱いものに触ってしまったことがあるかもしれません。指をやけどし、痛い思いをしたことでしょう。あなたの親はすぐに指に薬を付け、包帯を巻いて助けてくれたでしょう。けれども指が治るのに時間がかかったはずです。たとえ後悔し親がすぐに助けてくれたとしても痛みはしばらく続いたことでしょう。
Now, as adults, we understand that there are “hot things that we should not touch”. But, just like the small child, we sometimes make poor decisions. We touch the “hot things”.
さて大人として私たちは「触ってわいけない熱いもの」があることを理解しています。しかし、小さな子供のように私たちもあさはかな判断をしてしまうことがあります。「熱いもの」を触ってしまうのです。
Maybe a “hot thing” for us is breaking the Word of Wisdom. Or maybe it is not paying our tithing. Or maybe it is not saying our prayers each day. Or maybe it is not attending our Church meetings on Sunday. Or maybe it is looking at things we should not be looking at. Or maybe it is participating in activities that drive away the Spirit of the Lord.
私たちにとって「熱いもの」とは知恵の言葉を破ることかもしれません。また什分の一を納めないことかもしれません。毎日お祈りをしなかったり、日曜日に教会の集会に出席しないことかもしれません。また見てはいけないものを見てしまうことかもしれません。主の御霊から遠ざかるような活動に参加することかもしれません。
Whatever our “hot things” are, even though it may seem like fun at the time, there will be pain and suffering at some point. And just like the child’s burned fingers, it will take time for the suffering to be over.
「熱いもの」が何であれ、それがその時にどれ程楽しそうに見えても、間違いなく痛みと苦しみがやってくるのです。そして子供が指をやけどするように、その苦しみが無くなるのには時間がかかるのです。
The fact that the suffering does not end as soon as we pray for help does not mean that the Lord does not care about us. Just as in this scripture, the Lord will “put medicine and bandages” on our fingers, but may allow the suffering to continue for a period of time.
苦しみがお祈りしても直ぐに取り除かれないという事実は、主が私たちを大切に思っておられないということではありません。ちょうどこの聖句にあるように、主は「薬と絆創膏」を私たちの指に付けてくださいますが、苦しみや痛みは暫くの間続くことを許されるのです。
The best choice is not to touch those hot things. By keeping the commandments, we can avoid a great deal of pain and suffering. We will not have to have any “burned fingers”.
最も良い選択はそれらの熱いものに触れないことです。戒めを守ることで私たちはひどい痛みや苦しみを避けることができます。私たちは「指をやけど」する必要が無いのです。
Let’s be careful of “hot things” in our lives this week. Let’s remember the pain and suffering we have each experienced from burning our fingers before. Let’s do those things that will keep us safe.
今週も私たちの生活の中で「熱いもの」に触れないように過ごしましょう。私たちが以前経験した指のやけどの痛みや苦しみを忘れないようにしましょう。私たちが安全でいられることを行えますように。
