そして、わたしたしはこれによって、彼らを試し、何であろうと、主なる彼らの神が命じられるすべてのことを彼らがなすどうかを見よう。アブラハム書３：２５

And we will prove them herewith, to see if they will do all things whatsoever the Lord their God shall command them.  Abraham 3:25

This short scripture summaries our assignment here during mortality.  Abraham was show a great vision of the Lord’s creations, of this earth, and of the planets.  The Lord explained to Abraham why this earth was created.

この短い聖句は現世での私たちの務めについて要約しています。アブラハムは主が地球や惑星を創造されたことを示現で知りました。主はアブラハムにこの地球が何の目的で創造されたのか説明されました。

In English, “to prove” in this case means “to test, to try, to evaluate”.  It also means “to demonstrate by action” and “to show one’s self to have certain characteristics or abilities”.

英語の「to prove」はこの場合「テストする、試す、評価する」などの意味があります。他にも「行動で示す、その人のある性質や能力を示す」といった意味があります。

The word “prove” is the most important word in this scripture.  This scripture basically says that we are going to be given an opportunity to show our character by undergoing various tests.  

この「証明(prove)」はこの聖句で最も重要な言葉です。この聖句は要するに私たちが幾多のテストを受ける事で自分がどのような人物であるか示す機会が与えられると述べています。

It does not say that the tests will be easy.  It does not say that the tests will be short.  It does not say that there will only be one test.

でもそのテストが容易だとは言ってません。短いとも、一度しかないとも言ってません。

What the scripture does say is that we will be tested “in all things”.   

この聖句が述べているのは、私たちは「全てのことにおいて」テストを受けるということです。

We don’t get to choose our tests.  We don’t get to choose when we take the tests.  We don’t get to choose how long the tests go on.

私たちは受けるテストを選ぶことはできません。テストの時期や長さも選べません。

Our life here in mortality is a test.  We are being trained to return and live with our Heavenly parents.  In order to do that, we need to progress.  We need to learn.  We need to grow.

現世はテストであり試しです。天の父母のもとに戻り、共に住めるよう訓練を受けるのです。そのためには私たちは進歩する必要があります。学び、成長しなければなりません。

If you think of this life as a training program, it may be easier to understand why things seem to go wrong sometimes.  That is how a training program works.  It is designed to have things go wrong.  

この世が訓練の機会であるとすれば、物事が思うように行かないことも容易に理解できるのではないでしょうか。訓練とはそのようなものなのです。物事が思うように行かないよう計画されているのです。

If nothing went wrong, there would be no way to test our abilities.  There would be no way to show we have learned.  There would be no purpose in trying to improve.

もしすべてがうまくいっていれば、私たちの能力をテストすることなどありえません。私たちが学んだことを示すことなど出来ず、うまくいくように努力する目的がなくなってしまうのです。

In order to return and live with our Heavenly parents, we need to go through this “training program”.  We need to study the course material.  We need to prepare for the tests.  We need to pass the tests.

天の父母のもとに戻り、共に住むためには、私たちは「訓練のプログラム」を受けなければなりません。学習教材を学び、テストの準備をしなければなりません。テストに合格する必要があります。

Heavenly Father wants us to pass all the tests.  To help us, he has given us the scriptures, prophets and apostles, bishops, and leaders.  Most importantly, he has given us prayer.  Through prayer, we can receive the guidance and help we need to pass all our tests.

天父は私たちに全てのテストに合格して欲しいと思っておられます。そのため、天父は私たちに聖典や預言者、使徒、ビショップ、指導者を与えてくださいました。そしてもっとも大切なことはお祈りという贈り物を与えてくださりました。祈りを通して私たちが全てのテストに合格できるよう導きや助けを受けれるのです。

I know that we can succeed.  I know that we can pass all the tests.  I know that it will not be easy, but that with the help of Heavenly Father, we can all “prove” ourselves.

私たちはそれを成就でき、すべてのテストに合格できると私は知っています。それは簡単ではありませんが天父の助けにより私たちはみなそれを「証明」することが出来ると知っています。

Let’s work harder this week to pass the tests that come to us each day.  Let’s remember why we have tests.  Let’s pray with more purpose.  Let’s demonstrate through our actions that we are worthy of the blessings that have been promised to the faithful.

今週、毎日やってくるテストに合格できるよう努力しましょう。テストがどうしてあるのか忘れないでいましょう。もっと目的を持ってお祈りしましょう。私たちが忠実な者に約束された祝福を受けるにふさわしいことを行いをもって示しましょう。

I know we can do this.

それが出来ると私は知っています。
