And whatsoever they shall speak when moved upon by the Holy Ghost shall be scripture, shall be the will of the Lord, shall be the mind of the Lord, shall be the word of the Lord, shall be the voice of the Lord, and the power of God unto salvation. Doctrine & Covenants 68:4
In November of 1831, a conference of the Church was held at Hiram, Ohio. This was a significant conference. It was at this conference that the revelations which had been received by the Prophet Joseph Smith were presented to the Church. The Church voted to publish the commandments and revelations as the “Book of Commandments”.

As more revelations were received, the title was changed to the “Doctrine and Covenants”. This volume of scripture is very important. The Prophet Joseph Smith called it “the foundation of the Church in these last days”. We have a duty before the Lord to study it carefully.
さらなる啓示が与えられたため、タイトルが「教義と聖約」に変更されました。この聖典の序文は非常に重要です。預言者ジョセフ・スミスはそれを「この終わりの時における教会の基」と呼びました。私たちには、それを注意深く研究する義務が主のみ前にあるのです。
One of the key doctrines of the Church is that there is a living prophet on the earth and that revelation from the Lord to his prophet continues even today.

Do you believe that?

If you believe that there is a prophet on the earth today, then nothing is more important that the words that the prophet speaks by the power of the Holy Ghost. In the Doctrine and Covenants, we can study the revelations that were written by the Prophet Joseph Smith.
今日、地上に預言者がいると信じているなら、預言者が聖霊の力によって語る言葉ほど重要なものはないでしょう。教義と聖約から、私たちは預言者ジョセフ・スミスによって書かれた啓示を研究することができます。
But what about after that? We only have a few Sections in the Doctrine and Covenants that were written by the prophets who followed Joseph Smith. How can we study the words of those prophets?
しかし、その後はどうでしょうか？教義と聖約には、ジョセフ・スミスの後に続いた預言者が書いた数少ない章しかありません。それらの預言者の言葉をどのように研究できますか。
In verse 4 of this Section, the Lord tells us that the words of the prophets and apostles, when spoken by the power of the Holy Ghost, become scripture.
この章の 4 節で主は、預言者と使徒の言葉が聖霊の力によって語られるとき、聖文になると言われています。
It is not necessary to publish a new version of the Doctrine and Covenants each year. Instead, as revelation continues, we have the General Conference reports to study. The messages given at the General Conference are just as important as the messages in the Doctrine and Covenants.
教義と聖約の改定版を毎年発行する必要はありません。その代わり，啓示が続く今も，研究できるよう総大会の報告があります。総大会で与えられるメッセージは、教義と聖約のメッセージと同じくらい重要です。
We have the great blessing of hearing from living prophets and apostles twice each year. We are able to hear their messages in many different languages. We are able to read, re-read, and study those messages. We can even watch those speakers present their messages as many times as we want.
年に2回、私たちには生ける預言者や使徒の声を聞けるという大きな祝福があります。彼らのメッセージをそれぞれの言語で聞くことができます。私たちはそれらのメッセージを読み、再読し、研究することができます。私たちは話者が語ったメッセージを何度でも視聴することができます。
Those messages are scripture. Those messages are the word of the Lord. Those messages are our guide for the next six months. Those messages are the “power of God unto salvations”.

As we go through this next week, let’s remember to take time to study the messages of General Conference. Let’s remember that we have the privilege of hearing the word of the Lord as given through the Holy Ghost to his chosen servants. Let’s remember that revelation continues on today.
