わが子らよ、覚えておきなさい。あなたたちは、神の御子でありキリストである贖い主の岩の上に基を築かなければならないことを覚えておきなさい。そうすれば、悪魔が大風を、まことに旋風の中に悪魔の矢を送るときにも、まことに悪魔の雹と大嵐があなたたちを打つときにも、それが不幸と無窮の苦悩の淵にあなたたちを引きずり落とすことはない。なぜならば、あなたたちは堅固な基であるその岩の上に建てられており、人はその基の上に築くならば、倒れることなどあり得ないからである。ヒラマン章５：１２

And now, my sons, remember, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall.  Helaman 5:12

In this scripture, we are given an important instruction about the challenges of this life.  We are taught how to be successful and how to overcome those challenges.

この聖句では、私たちが受けるさまざまな人生のチャレンジについて大切な勧めが与えられています。私たちはどうしたら成功し、どのようにチャレンジを克服できるのか教えています。

We are taught in this scripture that everything we do in this life should be based upon the gospel of Jesus Christ.  We are to build our lives “upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God”.  That is the one and the only sure foundation for us.

この聖句では私たちが行うすべてのことはイエス・キリストの福音に基づいていなければならないと教えています。私たちの人生は「神の御子でありキリストである贖い主の岩の上に基を築かなければならい」のです。これが私たちにとって唯一であり堅固な基なのです。

We are told that when the storms of life come, if we are built upon the rock of Christ, we will be safe.  We are told that those storms will have “no power to drag you down”.  

私たちは人生の嵐や荒波がやってくるとき、キリストの岩の上に基をおいているならば安全だと教えています。そうすれば人生の嵐が「私たちをを引きずり落とすことはない」のです。

There is one very important thing to understand in this scripture.  It does not say “if the devil shall send forth his mighty winds”.   Rather, it says “when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds”.

この聖句で理解すべきとても大切なことがひとつあります。それは「悪魔がもし大風を送れば」とは述べていないことです。かわりに「悪魔が大風を送るとき」と述べています。

In other words, it is not a question of IF we shall have trials and challenges in this life.  It is a certainty that we will have trials and challenges in this life.  The only uncertainty is WHEN we will have those trials.

言い換えると私たちがこの世で試練やチャレンジを「もし」受けるならというのが問題ではなく、私たちがこの世で試練やチャレンジを間違い無く受けるということです。唯一はっきりわからないのは、いつその試練に会うかということです。

We understood that before we came here.  We knew that the life would be a “training program” filled with instruction, learning, and tests.  We knew that there would be opposition.  We knew that things would go wrong, to test us and to see if we would keep the commandments.

私たちはこの世に来る前にその事を理解していました。私たちはこの世が「訓練の課程」であり、指導や学び、テストがいっぱいに用意されていることを知っていました。私たちは反対のものがあることを知っていました。私たちを試し、戒めを守れるか見るために、事が思うように行かないこともあると知っていました。

Our loving Heavenly Father has taught us very clearly what we must do to pass the tests of this life.  

愛に満ちた私たちの天父はこの世のテストに合格するために何をすべきかはっきりと教えてくださいました。

As we make Christ the center of our lives, we gain that “sure foundation” that we need to endure the storms and winds and hail of the devil.  We can anchor ourselves on the “rock of our Redeemer”.   Unlike the sandy foundation that the foolish man built his house on, we have a solid foundation that will never fail.

キリストを生活の中心に置くことで、私たちは悪魔の嵐や雹、大風に耐えることができる「堅固な基」築くことが出来ます。私たちは「贖い主の岩」にいかりをおろすことが出来ます。おろか者が砂の上に家を建てるのではなく、私たちは決して倒れない堅固な基を持つことが出来ます。

Let’s work harder this week to make Christ the center of our lives.  Let’s work harder to stand on the “sure foundation” of the gospel.  Let’s try harder to use the blessings of the Atonement to strengthen us and to help us through the storms of life and the attacks of the adversary.

今週、キリストを生活の中心に置くよう頑張ってみましょう。福音の「堅固な基」の上に立つように頑張りましょう。私たちを強め、人生の荒波や幾多の逆境も乗り越えれるよう、贖いの祝福に頼るよう頑張りましょう。

I know that we can find that “sure foundation” that will help us endure to the end.  I know that, as we follow our Savior, we will be led through the storms of life.  I know that these things are true.

私たちが最後まで耐え忍べるよう助けてくれる「堅固な基」を見つけることができると知っています。私たちは救い主に従えば人生の嵐から導き出されると知っています。これらの事が真実だと知っています。
