このことから分かるように、人が悔い改めることを許された期間があった。まことに、それは試しの時期であり、悔い改めて神に仕える時期である。アルマ書４２：４

And thus we see that there was a time granted unto man to repent, yea, a probationary time, a time to repent and serve God.  Alma 42:4　

This scripture was given by Alma to his son, Corianton.  Corianton had some struggles in his life and had many questions about the gospel.

この聖句はアルマが息子のコリアントンに与えた教えです。コリアントンは自分の人生で色々と苦しみ、福音について多くの疑問を持っていました。

In this important scripture, Alma teaches his son about the purpose of this life.  He teaches Corianton about the creation of the earth and about our first parents, Adam and Eve.  

この重要な聖句でアルマは人生の目的について教えています。彼はコリアントンに地球の創造と最初の両親、アダムとイブについても教えています。

He tells his son that, after Adam and Eve had partaken of the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, they were prevented from taking of the fruit of the Tree of Life.  

彼はアダムとイブが善悪を知る木の実を食べた後、命の木の実を二度と取ることのない様にされました。

If they had partaken of the fruit of the Tree of Life immediately, they would have had no opportunity to repent.  They would have never been able to return to live with our Heavenly Father again.  They would have been miserable forever.

もし彼らが命の木の実をすぐに採っていたら、彼らは悔い改める機会がありませんでした。彼らは天父のところに戻り共に暮らすことなど出来なかったのです。彼らは永遠に惨めな状態でいたのです。

But, as Alma explains, there was a “time granted unto man to repent”.  

しかしアルマが説明しているように「悔い改めることを許された期間」があったのです。

We are living in that “time to repent” today.  We have come to this earth to receive a physical body and to be tested.  Our eternal reward will be based upon our actions during this life.

私たちは今「悔い改める時期」に生きているのです。私たちは肉体を得て試しをうけるためにこの地上にやってきたのです。私たちの永遠の報いはこの生涯での行いによるのです。

Alma teaches us what the most important thing is for us to do in this life.  He teaches us that this life is a “time to repent and serve God”.  

アルマはこの生涯で私たちがすべき最も大切なことが何なのかを教えています。彼はこの世は「悔い改めて神に仕える時期」であると教えています。

That is the most important assignment we have during this time of testing.  

これがこの試しの時期に私たちに与えられた最も大切な任務なのです。

We all make mistakes.  We all commit sin.  We all need to repent.

私たちは誰でも間違いを犯しますし罪も犯します。私たちは誰でも悔い改めが必要なのです。

This life is the time to repent.  This life is the time to show God that we will keep his commandments.  This life is the time for us to serve God by serving those around us.

この世は悔い改めの時期なのです。この世は神の教え、戒めを守ることを証明する時期なのです。この世は自分の周りにいる人々に仕えることを通して神に仕える時期なのです。

We are able to repent only because of the atonement of our Savior, Jesus Christ.  It is only through the power of the atonement that we can be forgiven of our sins.  It is through the atonement that we are able become clean and able to return to live with our Heavenly Father.

私たちは、救い主イエス・キリストの贖いがあるからこそ悔い改めれるのです。贖いの力によってのみ私たちの罪は赦され、贖いの力によってのみ清められ天父と共に再び暮らすことが出来るのです。

Life is short and uncertain.  We are not told how long we will be able to stay here.  Some stay in this life for many, many years.  Others stay in this life for only a very short time.  

人生は短く将来どうなるかなどわかりません。私たちはここにどのくらい留まれるのか教えられていません。ある人はとても長くこの世に留まります。またある人はほんのわずかの間しかこの世に留まりません。

We need to use our time here in this life wisely.  This is the time for us to repent.  This is the time for us to serve God.  This is the time for us to keep the commandments.

私たちはこの世の時間を賢く使わねばなりません。この時期は悔い改めをするためにあります。この時期は神に仕え、戒めを守るためにあります。

If we do these things, we will receive all of the promised blessings.  We will be able to become clean from our sins.  We will be able to return to our Heavenly Father.  We will be able to live with Him for all eternity.

もしこれらのことをするならば私たちは約束されたすべての祝福を受けることが出来ます。私たちは罪から清められるのです。私たちは天父のもとに戻り、永遠に神と共に暮らせるのです。

I know that these things are true.  I know that Alma teaches us a true principle.  I know that our eternal happiness depends upon our efforts and choices in this life.  I know that the Lord will bless us and guide us through this life if we will obey his commandments.

私はこれらの事が真実だと知っています。アルマは真の原則を私たちに教えていると知っています。私は永遠の幸福はこの世での努力と選択にかかっていることを知っています。私たちが主の戒めに従うならば生涯を通して主は私たちを祝福し導いてくださることを知っています。

Let’s try hard this week to follow Alma’s instructions to repent and to serve God.  Let’s make an extra effort to serve others, to keep the commandments, to love God.

今週もアルマの教えに一生懸命従い、悔い改め、神に仕えましょう。他の誰かに仕え、戒めを守り、神を愛するよう更なる努力をしましょう。
