あなたがたはどのようにしてそれが確かであると分かるのか。見よ、あなたがたはまだ見ていない物事を知ることはできない。だから、将来キリストが現れるということを前もって知ることはできないのである。アルマ書３０：１５
How do ye know of their surety? Behold, ye cannot know of things which ye do not see; therefore ye cannot know that there shall be a Christ. Alma 30:15
This was Korihor’s statement to Alma. Korihor did not believe in Jesus Christ or in the gospel. He preached things that were “pleasing to the carnal mind”. He tried to lead people away from the true Church of Christ.
これはコリホルがアルマに陳述したものです。コリホルはイエス・キリストや福音を信じていませんでした。彼は「肉の思いに快い」ことを説いており、人々を真の教会から遠ざけようと試みていました。
It is interesting that some people still use this same idea today.
興味深いことに今日でも同じ方法を利用する人々がいます。
They teach that whatever a person does is okay. They teach that each person can decide what is right and what is wrong for them. They teach that this is the only life and that what we do during this life does not matter.
人は何をしても良いと彼らは教えます。何がよく何が悪いかは個人で決めてよいと教えます。彼らは人生は一度限りなので何をしても良いと教えます。
This is a powerful tool of Satan. It sounds very “pleasing to the carnal mind”. It excuses the guilt we feel from committing sin. It requires no changes and no effort on our part.
これはサタンが使う強力な手段です。それは「肉の思いに快く」聞こえます。罪を犯して感じる罪悪感を正当化し逃げ道を作ります。また何も変わる必要がなく努力をする必要も無いと。
It is a trick.
それは「サタンの」企てです。
Alma confronted Korihor with the truth. When Korihor said that there would be no Christ, Alma asked him a key question. Alma asked Korihor what evidence he had that there would be no Christ. Alma said that the only evidence that Korihor had was his own opinion.
アルマはコリホルに真理を突きつけました。コリホルがキリストなどいないと言った時アルマは重要な質問をしました。キリストがいないというどのような証拠を持っているのかとアルマはコリホルに尋ねました。アルマはコリホルが持っている証拠はただ彼の個人的見解であると述べました。
Alma, on the other hand, had the scriptures that taught about Jesus Christ. Alma had a strong testimony of the truthfulness of the scriptures because he had studied them. He had a strong testimony because he had “fasted and prayed many days” to know of their truth.
一方アルマはイエス・キリストを証ししている聖典を持っていました。アルマはその聖典を学んだので聖典の真実性について強い証を持っていました。彼はそれらが真実であるか知ろうと「何日も断食し祈った」ので強い証を持っていました。
This is how we gain our own testimony of Jesus Christ. Korihor demanded physical proof. He demanded that Alma show him a sign.
私たちもこうしてイエス・キリストの証を得るのです。コリホルは物質的な証拠を求めました。アルマにしるしを見せろと要求したのです。
But that is not how we get a testimony of the gospel. We get a testimony through spiritual feelings. We gain a testimony by reading the scriptures. We gain a testimony by praying. We gain a testimony by keeping the commandments.
しかし福音の証はそのようにして得られるものではありません。霊的な感覚を通して証は得られるのです。聖典を読むことで、またお祈りすることで、そして戒めを守ることで証は得られるのです。
The world thinks that physical proof is important. However, the most important knowledge that we receive in this life does not come through physical proof. The most important knowledge we receive in this life comes by the still small voice of the Holy Ghost testifying to our spirit that these things are true.
世間は物質的な証拠は重要だと考えます。しかし、この世で私たちが得る最も大切な知識は物質的な証拠からは得られないのです。生涯で得られる最も大切な知識は聖霊のかすかな声を通して私たちの霊にそのことが真実だと証しすることでやって来ます。
There is right and wrong. There are commandments of Jesus Christ. The gospel is true. Whether we choose to believe or not does not change the fact that those things are true.
この世には正しいことと間違ったことが存在します。イエス・キリストの戒めがあります。福音は真実です。私たちが信じるか信じないかによってそれらの真実性が変わることはありません。
We do not get to decide what is right or wrong by ourselves. Right and wrong are explained clearly to us in the scriptures. Right and wrong are explained clearly to us by our leaders. Right and wrong are explained clearly to us by the Holy Ghost.
私たちは自分自身で善と悪を決めれる訳ではありません。善と悪は聖典の中にはっきりと述べられています。善と悪は私たちの指導者もはっきりと説明していますし聖霊も私たちに善と悪を明確に教えてくれます。
As we go through this week, let’s remember what Alma taught to Korihor. Let’s remember that there are things that are right and there are things that are wrong. Let’s remember that the scriptures are true. Let’s remember that, as we keep the commandments, we can know that the gospel is true. Let’s remember to listen to the still small voice of the Holy Ghost as it testifies to us of these things.
今週もアルマがコリホルに教えたことを忘れないよう過ごしましょう。正しいことと悪いことが存在することを覚えていましょう。聖典が真実であることを忘れないように。戒めを守ることで福音の真実性が理解できることを忘れないように。これらが真実であると証ししてくれる聖霊のかすかで小さな声を聞くことを忘れないようにしましょう。
I know that these things are true, not because of physical proof, but because the Holy Ghost has testified to me that they are true.
これらのことが真実だと私は知っています。それは物質的な証拠によらず聖霊が真実だと証ししてくれたからです。
