天からの声がわたしたちに証した福音、すなわち喜びのおとずれはこれである。彼、すなわちイエスは、世のために十字架につけられ、世の罪を負い、世を聖め、それをすべての不義から清めるため世に来た。教義と聖約　７６：４０－４１

And this is the gospel, the glad tidings, which the voice out of the heavens bore record unto us — That he came into the world, even Jesus, to be crucified for the world, and to bear the sins of the world, and to sanctify the world, and to cleanse it from all unrighteousness;  Doctrine & Covenants 76:40-41

The word “gospel” is sometimes defined as “good news”.  In fact, that is what it really is, glad tidings!  It is the glad tidings about our Savior, Jesus Christ.  It is the glad tidings of his Atonement.  It is the glad tidings of our option to repent.

「福音」と言う言葉は時に「良い知らせ」とも言われます。事実その通り喜びのおとずれなのです。私たちの救い主イエス・キリストについての喜びのおとずれなのです。主の贖いという喜びのおとずれなのです。私たちが悔い改め出来るという喜びのおとずれなのです。

Of the millions and millions of God’s children who have ever lived on this earth, how blessed we are to have the gospel, these glad tidings.

かつてこの地上に住んだことのある何億という神の子がいる中で私たちにはこの喜びのおとずれである福音が与えられていることはなんという祝福でしょう。

Without the Atonement of Jesus Christ, there could be no glad tidings.  Without the Atonement of Jesus Christ, we would be in darkness forever.  Without the Atonement of Jesus Christ, we could never be happy.

イエス・キリストの贖罪無しでは喜びのおとずれはあり得ません。イエス・キリストの贖罪無しでは私たちは永遠に暗闇の中にいることでしょう、そして決して幸せにはなれないでしょう。

It is only because of the great love of Heavenly Father and his Son, Jesus Christ, that we have hope.  Because of that love, we can learn about the commandments.  Because of that love, we can repent.  Because of that love, we can be happy for eternity.

天父と御子イエス・キリストの偉大な愛のおかげで私たちは希望が持てるのです。その愛のおかげで戒めについて学ぶことが出来るのです。そして私たちは悔い改めることが出来、永遠に幸せになれるのです。

The mission of our Savior was established before this earth was created.  In the grand council in heaven, the wonderful plan of salvation was presented to all of Heavenly Father’s children.  We are told that “we shouted for joy” when we learned about that great plan.

救い主の使命はこの地球が創造される前に決められていました。天上の大会議で素晴らしい救いの計画が天父のすべての子供たちに提案されました。私たちはその偉大な計画を知ったとき「喜び叫んだ」と言われています。

But, for the plan to work, there had to be a Savior.  We could not succeed by ourselves.  Since we would all commit sin in this mortal life, we would be unclean and unable to return and live with Heavenly Father again.  Without the option to repent, we would be cut off from the presence of God forever.

しかしその計画が成就するためには救い主が必要でした。自分の力だけでは無理だったのです。私たちは誰でもこの死すべき世では罪を犯します。清くないので再び天父の元に戻り共に暮らすことは出来なかったのです。悔い改めという選択肢がないと私たちは神のみ前から永遠に断ち切られるのです。

Our Elder Brother, Jesus Christ, offered to take upon him all of our sins, all of our transgressions, all of our bad deeds.  Because of his sinless life, he was able to pay for all of our sins. Even knowing how painful, how agonizing, how terrible it would be to suffer for all our sins, he still loved us enough to atone for us.

私たちの兄であるイエス・キリストは私たち全員の罪やすべての悪い行いを彼自身が引き受けることを提案されました。彼の罪のない人生の故に、私たち全員の罪の支払いをすることが出来たのです。私たち全員の罪のためにそうすることがどれ程痛みを伴い、苦しみ、酷いことだとわかっていても彼は私たちの罪を贖うのに十分の愛を持っておられました。

The whole gospel message is based on Jesus Christ.  Everything that we teach at Church, in our homes, or in the Temple, is based on the great Atonement of Jesus Christ.  The message of the gospel is a message of hope and of joy.  It is a message that transcends this temporary mortal existence.  It is a message for eternity.

福音のすべての教えはイエス・キリストに基づいています。私たちが教会や家庭、神殿で教えることは全てイエス・キリストの偉大な贖いに基づいているのです。福音の教えは希望と喜びの知らせなのです。それはこの仮の死すべき存在を超越するものなのです。永遠のためのメッセージなのです。

How important it is for us to share these glad tidings with our family members and with our friends.  We want them to have the same happiness and joy that we have found in the gospel.  We do not ask them to give up anything, only to feel great joy.  We want them to repent and to be worthy of all the blessings the Lord has promised.

この喜びのおとずれを家族や友人と分かち合うことはどれ程大切なことでしょう。私たちが福音に見い出した幸福や喜びを他の人にも持ってほしいと望みます。彼らに何かをあきらめるようお願いしたいわけではありません。ただより大きな喜びを感じて欲しいのです。彼らに悔い改めて主が約束されたすべての祝福にふさわしくなれることを望んでいるのです。

We have been given wonderful blessings.  We should express our gratitude to Heavenly Father each day for the great gift of the Atonement and of the gospel.  Most importantly, we should show our gratitude by living the gospel to the best of our ability.  We should strive to do a little better each day to keep the commandments.  

私たちは素敵な祝福を頂いています。毎日贖いと福音の素晴らしい贈り物について天父に感謝をささげるべきです。そして最も大切なのは感謝の気持ちを最善を尽くし福音に生きることで表すことです。戒めを守るために今日は昨日より少しでもより努力をすべきです。

Let’s remember this week what a great blessing it is to know about the Atonement of Jesus Christ.  Let’s remember this week to show our love to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ by keeping their commandments.  Let’s remember this week to share those glad tidings with others.

イエス・キリストの贖いを知ることがどれ程素晴らしい祝福なのか忘れずに今週を過ごしましょう。戒めを守ることで天父とイエス・キリストに私たちの愛を表しましょう。この喜びのおとずれを誰かに分かち合うことを忘れないようにしましょう。
