もしあなたがたがわたしを愛するならば、わたしの戒めを守るべきである。ヨハネ書１４：１５

If ye love me, keep my commandments.  John 14:15

This simple statement, given by the Savior during his mortal ministry to his disciples, is the most basic of all gospel principles.

この簡単な教えは救い主がこの地上で弟子たちに教えておられた時与えられましたが、すべての福音の原則の中で最も基本的なものです。

In a single short sentence, Jesus Christ teaches us the most fundamental principle of the gospel.  “If ye love me, keep my commandments”.

この短い教えの中でイエス・キリストは私たちに福音の最も根本的な原則を教えておられます。「もしあなたがたがわたしを愛するならば、わたしの戒めを守るべきである」

There is nothing complex in this statement.  There is nothing to debate or discuss.  There is no possibility for error or misunderstanding.  “If ye love me, keep my commandments”.

この教えは理解に難しいものではありません。議論や討論の余地もありません。間違いや誤解を生じる可能性もありません。「もしあなたがたがわたしを愛するならば、わたしの戒めを守るべきである」

Notice that the Lord did not say, “try to keep my commandments” or “keep the easy commandments” or “keep the commandments that society accepts”.  Instead, the Lord simply says, “If ye love me, keep my commandments”.

主が次のようには教えられなかったことに気が付きましたか。「わたしの戒めを守ってみましょう」とか「簡単な戒めを守りましょう」「社会が受け入れてる戒めを守りましょう」と。そうではなく主は「もしあなたがたがわたしを愛するならば、わたしの戒めを守るべきである」と教えられました。

There are no limitations, no qualifications, no exceptions.  

制限も、資格も、例外もありません。

The Lord does not say “please”, or “try”, or “do your best”.  “If ye love me, keep my commandments”.

主は「どうぞ」とか「やってみましょう」「出来る限り」とも述べられませんでした。主は「もしあなたがたがわたしを愛するならば、わたしの戒めを守るべきである」と教えられました。

The Lord has given us everything.  There is nothing that we can give to the Lord that is not already his.  Whatever material possessions we may have, whatever talents we may have, whatever abilities we may have, are all blessings given to us by a loving Heavenly Father.

主は私たちにすべてを与えてくださいました。主のものでない事なの見つかりません。私たちが物質的に所有しているもの、才能、能力、どれをとっても愛する天父からの祝福なのです。

The only way we can show that we truly love the Lord is by following this simple command: “If ye love me, keep my commandments”.

私たちが心から主を愛している事を示す唯一の方法はこの簡単な戒めに従うことです。「わたしを愛するならわたしの戒めを守りなさい」

The Lord, through his prophets, has given us commandments.  Sometimes, as on Mt. Sinai, the commandments begin with the words “Thou shalt not”, or “Thou shalt”.  More often, though, the counsel of the prophets and apostles begin with words like “we suggest”, or “we recommend”, or “we urge”.

主は預言者を通して私たちに戒めをくださいました。ある時はシナイ山で「汝、、、すべからず」「汝、、、すべし」と言うような戒めであったり、またもっとよく聞く預言者や使徒の勧告に「、、、勧めます」とか「強く促します」というものもあります。

Just because the prophet does not stand in General Conference and say “Thus saith the Lord” at the beginning of his message does not mean that the counsel contained in his message is just his own opinion.  We are taught that whatever the prophets and apostles teach us when guided by the Spirit will be the will of the Lord.

預言者が総大会の場に立って「主が言われるには、、、」と説教の始めに言わないからといってそれが単に彼ら個人の意見だということではありません。私たちは預言者や使徒が御霊によって語ることな何であっても主の御心であると教えられています。

In the most recent General Conferences, we have been given much counsel and instruction.  We have been taught by prophets and apostles about the will of the Lord.  We have been given counsel about what the Lord wants us to do.

前回の総大会で私たちは多くの勧告と指示を受けました。預言者や使徒から主の御心について教わりました。主が私たちに何をするよう望んでおられるのか勧告を受けました。

So,…

それで、、、

Do we love the Lord?

あなたは主を愛していますか？

If we do, we will keep his commandments.  We will read The Book of Mormon each day.  We will pray each day.  We will attend all of our Church meetings.  

であれば主の戒めを守るでことしょう。毎日モルモン書を読むことでしょう。毎日お祈りすることでしょう。そしてすべての教会の集会に出席することでしょう。

We will pay a full and honest tithe.  We will keep the Sabbath Day holy.  We will minister to our brothers and sisters in love and with charity.  We will share the message of the gospel with those around us.  

正直に什分の一を払うことでしょう。安息日を清く保つことでしょう。兄弟姉妹を愛と慈愛をもって愛し助けることでしょう。周りの人にも福音のメッセージを分かち合うことでしょう。

We will bring the blessings of the Temple to our ancestors and deceased family members.  We will attend the Temple as often as possible.

神殿の祝福を私たちの先祖や亡くなった家族にもたらすことでしょう。神殿に出来る限り参入することでしょう。

This list can go on and on.  But we don’t need lists.  We don’t need special instructions. We don’t need detailed orders or demands.

このリストは終わることがありません。しかし私たちにはリストなど必要ありません。特別な指示も必要ありません。細かな指図や要求事項なども必要ありません。

All we need to remember is the short, simple sentence, “If ye love me, keep my commandments”.

ただ私たちが覚えているべきことは短く簡単な言葉です。「わたしを愛するならわたしの戒めを守るべきである」

Let’s all keep this thought in mind as we go through this week.  Let’s remember what great things the Lord has done for us. Let’s be willing to show our gratitude and our love for our Savior.  Let’s all keep his commandments.

このことを心にとめて今週を過ごしましょう。主が私たちになされた偉大な業を忘れないように。主に感謝と愛を示す望みを持ちましょう。主のすべての戒めを守りましょう。
