さて、神を信じる者はだれであろうと、もっと良い世界を、まことに神の右に一つの場所を、確かに望むことができる。この望みは信仰から生じ、人々にとってその心をしっかりとした不動のものにする錨となる。そしてそのような人々はいつも多くの善い行いをし、神をあがめるようになる。エテル書１２：４
Wherefore, whoso believeth in God might with a surety hope for a better world, yea, even a place at the right hand of God, which hope cometh of faith, maketh an anchor to the souls of men, which would make them sure and steadfast, always abounding in good works, being led to glorify God. Ether 12:4
In this scripture, the prophet Ether reminds us two important things. First, he reminds us of the great blessings that will come to the faithful followers of Jesus Christ. Second, he reminds us how we should live our lives.
この聖句で預言者エテルは二つの大切なことを教えています。まずイエスキリストの忠実な従者に送られる偉大な祝福、次にどのように生きるべきかということについて教えています。
First, Ether teaches us that those people who believe in God can have great hope. We know that in this world, we will have many trials and difficulties. That is all part of the plan. We need to experience those trials and challenges in order to learn the lessons we came here to learn.
まず最初に、エテルは神を信じるものは偉大な希望を持つことが出来ると教えています。私たちはこの世で多くの試練や苦難を受けます。それは全て（神の）計画なのです。私たちはこの世に来てレッスンを学ぶために試練と苦難を経験しなければなりません。
It is very difficult to go through trials. Sometimes, we want to give up. We think it is too hard. We think that our trials are more difficult than the trials that other people face. We think that it is not worth it.
試練を耐えぬくことはとても難しいです。時々あきらめたくなり、難しすぎるとも思います。自分の試練は他の人が経験するものよりもっと難しいと考えたり、（がんばる）価値がないと思ったりします。
Ether teaches us that, through our faith, we can have hope for better things. We can have hope of wonderful blessings for eternity. Life is short, but eternity is very, very long.
エテルは信仰により更に良いものを望むことが出来ると教えています。永遠のすばらしい祝福を望むことが出来るのです。人生は短いですが永遠はとっても、とっても、長いのです。
What does Ether tell us to hope for? We can hope “with surety” for a better world. “Surety” means something that is guaranteed. It means something that is certain. It means something that is absolutely true.
エテルは何に希望を持つように言っていますか？私たちはもっと良い世界を「確かに」望むことが出来ます。「確かに」とは保障される何かを意味します。それは確かである何か、また絶対に真実である何かを意味します。
Ether is telling us that we will absolutely receive the blessings of a better world and the blessings of living again with our Heavenly Father.
エテルはより良い世界という祝福と、また天父と共に再び住めるという祝福を絶対に受けると教えています。
It is through faith in God that we gain this hope.
それは神への信仰と通してこの希望を持てるのです。
Second, Ether teaches us how we should act when we have faith. He teaches us that we receive hope by having faith in God. Our faith then becomes an “anchor” to our souls. An “anchor” is something heavy that keeps a ship from moving. It keeps the ship in one place.
２番目に、エテルは私たちが信仰を持つとき行動するように教えています。彼は神への信仰を持つことで希望を得られると教えています。私たちの信仰は心の「いかり」となります。「いかり」とは船が（勝手に意図せぬところに）動かないようにするための重いものです。船を一箇所に留めておきます。
Ether teaches us that our faith should be an anchor for our lives. Faith should keep us on the right path. Faith should make us live better lives. Faith should help us take action to do good things.
Even when trials and temptations and difficulties come, our faith will be an anchor and will keep us from failing. Our faith will give us hope. Our faith will help us look beyond the day to day trials of life to the great blessings that await us in the next life.
エテルは信仰が私たちの生活のいかりであるべきだと教えています。信仰が私たちを正しい道にとどめてくれ、より良い生活をもたらしてくれます。信仰が良い行いをするよう促してくれます。試練や誘惑、困難が来ても、私たちの信仰がくじけないように支えてくれます。信仰が希望を与えてくれ、日々経験する試練の先にある偉大な祝福（次の世で私たちに用意された祝福）に目を向けさせてくれます。
May we work hard this week to have greater hope. May we remember that hope comes from our faith and that faith comes from our obedience to the commandments. May we remember the blessings that we can “with surety hope for”.
より強い希望を持てるよう今週も頑張りましょう。信仰から希望が生まれることと、戒めに忠実であることから信仰が生まれることを心に留めましょう。「確かに望むこと」ができる祝福を覚えましょう。
I know that these things are true. I know that, even in hard times, we can have hope. I know that we will absolutely receive the wonderful blessings that have been promised. All we have to do is to be faithful.
これらの事が真実だと知っています。困難なときにも希望が持てると知っています。私は、約束された素晴らしい祝福を確かに受けることができると知っています。私たちがすべきことはただ信仰深く従順であることです。
