そこで兄さんたち、わたしはあなたがたに、真鍮の版に聞き記されている事柄が真実であることを知ってほしいのです。これらの事柄は、人が神の戒めに従順でなければならないことを証ししています。ですから、わたしと父だけが証をし、神の戒めを教えたのだと考える必要はありません。あなたがたは、神の戒めに従順で最後まで堪え忍ぶならば、終わりの日に救われるでしょう。まことにそのとおりです。アーメン。　ニーファイ第一書２２：３０−３１

Wherefore, my brethren, I would that ye should consider that the things which have been written upon the plates of brass are true; and they testify that a man must be obedient to the commandments of God.  Wherefore, ye need not suppose that I and my father are the only ones that have testified, and also taught them. Wherefore, if ye shall be obedient to the commandments, and endure to the end, ye shall be saved at the last day.  And thus it is. Amen. 1 Nephi 22:30-31

In this scripture, Nephi is pleading with his older brothers.  He wants them to understand that the commandments of the Lord do not change.  He tells his older brothers that the things that he and his father Lehi have taught are the same things that all the prophets have taught.

この聖句ではニーファイが主の戒めは不変であることを理解して欲しいと兄たちに嘆願しています。ニーファイは兄たちに彼と父リーハイが教えた事はすべての預言者が教えてきたことだと述べています。

This is an important point to understand.

これは重要な教えなので理解してください。

Today, many people believe that there are no absolutes.  They do not believe that there is an absolute truth. They do not believe that there are any commandments.

今日多くの人は絶対的なものは無いと信じています。彼らは絶対的な真理などあると信じていませんし、

戒めがある事も信じていません。

They want to believe that whatever they like is right.  They want to believe that they can choose what is right and what is wrong.  They want to believe that there are no consequences to their actions.

彼らは自分の都合の良いことだけを信じようとします。正しいことも間違ったことも自由に選べ、自分がとる行動にも結果が伴わないと思っています。

That is not correct.

勿論それは間違っています。

Yes, we have free agency.  Yes, we can choose what we want to do.  Yes, the Lord will not force us to be obedient.

そうです、私たちには自由意思があります。そうです、私たちは何でも好きなことを選べます。そうです、主は私たちに従順であるよう強制はなさいません。

But that does not mean there are no commandments.  It does not mean that there is not right and wrong.  It does not mean that there are no consequences.

しかし、それは戒めが無いという意味ではありません。善悪が無いという意味でもありません。行動の結果が無いという意味でもありません。

Nephi tries to explain to his older brothers that the principles of the gospel never change.  The principles that Lehi and Nephi taught were the same principles that Adam taught, that Noah taught, that Abraham taught, that Moses taught.

ニーファイは兄たちに福音の原則は決して変わることが無いと説得しようと試みました。リーハイとニーファイが説明した原則はアダムやノア、アブラハム、モーセが教えたものと同じものでした。

The principles of the gospel that we teach today are the same principles that our Savior taught during his mortal ministry.  They are the same principles that the Prophet Joseph Smith taught as the gospel was restored to the earth. They are the same principles that we are taught today by prophets and apostles.

今日私たちが教える福音の原則は救い主がこの世で教導されておられた時、教えられたものと同じ原則です。それは福音がこの地上に回復された時ジョセフ・スミスが教えたものと同じ原則です。今日預言者や使徒からも同じ原則を教わります。

Opinions of the world may change over time.  Fashion styles may change over time. Popular things may change over time.

この世の考えは時代と共に変わっていきます。ファッションも変わり、流行も変わっていきます。

But the principles of the gospel of Jesus Christ do not change.  

しかしイエス・キリストの福音の原則は不変です。

Every son or daughter of God who comes into this world must qualify for eternal life by keeping the commandments of the Lord.  No one gets any special treatment. No one is excluded. Everyone has an equal opportunity.

この世にやって来るすべての神の息子、娘は主の戒めを守ることで永遠の生命を受ける資格を持つことが出来ます。誰かが特別な扱いを受けるということはありません。誰も例外ではありません。すべての人に平等の機会が与えられます。

We all need to follow the exact same path.  We need to follow what Nephi and all the other prophets have taught.  We must do two simple things.

私たちは誰でも同じ道を通らねばなりません。ニーファイや他の預言者が教えた事に従わねばなりません。私たちは二つの簡単なことをしなければなりません。

We must be obedient to the commandments.

誡めに従順であること。

We must endure to the end.

最後まで耐え忍ぶこと。

If we do those two things, the promise is, “ye shall be saved at the last day”.

この二つの事を行うとき、「終わりの日に救われるであろう」という約束を受けています。

As we go through this week, let’s remember that the principles of the gospel do not change just because society does not like them.  Let’s remember that the same gospel principles have been taught in every dispensation. Let’s do those two simple things and be worthy to be “saved at the last day”.

福音の原則は社会が気に入らないからという理由だけで変わることがないことを忘れないよう今週を過ごしましょう。同じ福音の原則がどの神権時代にも教えられた事を覚えていてください。その二つの簡単な事を行い、「終わりの日に救われる」相応しさを身につけましょう。
