I, the Lord, will forgive whom I will forgive, but of you it is required to forgive all men. Doctrine & Covenants 64:10
In this revelation in the Doctrine and Covenants, the Lord gives us very clear instructions about the principle of forgiveness.
教義と聖約にあるこの啓示で、主は赦しの原則について私たちにとてもわかりやすく教えておられます。
Forgiveness is one of the most basic principles of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Without forgiveness, not one of us would be able to return to live with our Heavenly Father.
赦しはイエス・キリストの最も基本的な福音の原則の一つです。赦しがなくては私たちは誰一人として天父のみもとに戻り共に住むことはできません。
Every one of us has made mistakes. Some mistakes were small. Some mistakes were big. But without forgiveness, we could never repent. We would be cut off from the presence of the Lord forever.
人は誰でも間違いを犯します。ある間違いは小さく、またある間違いは大きなものです。赦しがなくては私たちは決して悔い改めは出来ません。私たちは主の御前から断ち切られるのです。
Forgiveness is made possible by the atonement of our Savior Jesus Christ. It is only because of that great atonement that we have hope.
赦しは救い主イエス・キリストの贖いにより可能となります。偉大な贖いによってのみ私たちは希望を持てるのです。
As king Benjamin reminds us, we are all beggars. We all beg each day for forgiveness of our sins. The Lord, in his great mercy, blesses us with forgiveness as we sincerely repent and seek to keep the commandments.
ベニヤミン王の教えのように私たちは皆、物乞いなのです。私たちは日々自己の罪の赦しを請い願っています。主の偉大な慈悲により私たちが心から誠心誠意、悔い改め、戒めを守るように努めるとき赦しという祝福を受けます。
In this scripture, we are commanded to “forgive all men”. That is a very clear commandment. It does not say “forgive most men”, or “forgive those men that we like”. It says to “forgive ALL men”.
この聖句で私たちは「全ての人を赦す」よう戒められています。それはとてもわかりやすい戒めです。「ほとんどの人を赦す」ようにとか「自分が気に入っている人を赦す」ようにとは述べていません。「全ての人を赦す」ようにと言っています。
We are told in Matthew that if we do not forgive others, we will not be forgiven. Forgiving others can be a very difficult challenge. But it is very important for us to forgive others.
マタイによる福音書で他の人を赦さなければ私たちは赦されないと言われてます。他の人を赦すことは非常に難しいことです。しかし他の人を赦すことは私たちにとって非常に大切なことなのです。
Sometimes, the most difficult person to forgive is ourselves. Once we have repented of our mistakes and done all that we can, we pray for the Lord to forgive us. We know that he will forgive us. But do we forgive ourselves?

President Boyd K. Packer gave a wonderful talk about forgiveness in the October 1987 General Conference. This is a good talk to read again and to study.

As difficult as it is for us to forgive others, we need to remember that there are times when we offend people and need them to forgive us. We must be as willing to forgive others as we hope they will be to forgive us.

Let’s work harder this week to forgive others. Maybe there is someone that has offended us in the past and that we still have bad feelings about. Maybe it is someone who was a friend. Maybe it is a family member. Maybe it is even ourselves.
今週、他の人を赦すよう努力してましょう。それは過去に自分を傷つけ、未だに悪感情を抱いている誰かかもしれません。友人の誰かかもしれません。家族の誰かかもしれません。もしかするとそれは自分自身かもしれません。
Whomever it is, now is the time to forgive. Now is the time to let go of that burden. Now is the time for us to move forward.
それが誰であろうと今が赦すときなのです。今が重荷を下ろす時なのです。今が前に向かって歩むときなのです。
I know that by forgiving others, we will be able to receive forgiveness ourselves. I know that, as hard as it is to forgive, it is an important thing for us to do. I know that, as we forgive, our own burdens will be lighter and our lives happier.
他の人を赦すことで自分自身が赦されることを私は知っています。赦すことがどれほど難しくても、私たちにとって大切なことなのです。赦すとき、自分自身の重荷が軽くなり、幸せになること私は知っています。
