そこでペテロは口を開いて言った、「神は人をかたよりみないかたで、神を敬い義を行う者はどの国民でも受けいれて下さることが、ほんとうによくわかってきました。使徒行伝１０:３４−３５

Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons: But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.  Acts 10:34-35

使徒行伝10章では、ペテロに重要な啓示が与えられています。ペテロは教会の会長として、教会全体のために啓示を受ける権限を与えられた神権者でした。

In the 10th chapter of Acts, a significant revelation is given to Peter.  Peter, as the President of the Church, was the priesthood holder authorized to receive revelation for the entire Church.

それまで福音はユダヤ人にしか伝えられていませんでした。ユダヤ人と異邦人の間には大きな社会的分裂があったのです。ユダヤ人は異邦人と一緒にいることも、一緒に食事をすることも、彼らの家に入ることも禁じられていました。救い主は、現世での教導の業の間でさえ、わずかな例外を除いては、ただイスラエルの人々だけに教えられました。

Up to that time, the gospel had only been preached to the Jewish people.  There was a great social division between the Jewish people and the Gentiles.  The Jews were forbidden to be with a Gentile, to eat with them, or to be in their house.  Even during his mortal ministry, the Savior, with only a few exceptions, just taught those who were of Israel.  

しかし、救い主が現世での教導の業を終えられたとき、使徒たちへの命令は「それゆえ、あなたがたは行って、すべての国民を教えなさい」（マタイ28:19）でした。使徒たちがその意味を理解していたかどうかはわかりませんが、福音がイスラエル以外の人々に宣べ伝えられる道が開かれたのでした。

However, as the Savior completed his mortal ministry, his charge to the Apostles was, “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations” (Matthew 28:19).  We don’t know if the Apostles understood what that meant, but it did open the way for the gospel to be preached to those who were not of Israel.

ペテロが受けた啓示の中で、彼は天から大きな布が降りてくるのを見ました。その布の中には、モーセの律法で汚れた動物と分類されているあらゆる種類の動物や鳥が入っていました。ユダヤ人は汚れた動物を食べることを禁じられていました。

In the revelation that Peter received, he saw a big blanket being lowered from heaven.  In the blanket were all kinds of animals and birds that the Mosaic law classified as unclean.  The Jews were forbidden to eat any unclean animal.

幻の中で、ペテロは「殺して食べなさい」と指示されました。この要求は三度あり、ペテロは三度汚れたものは食べたことがないと答えました。彼がそう答えるたびに、主は「神が清めたものを、清くないと言ってはならない」と言われました。

In the vision, Peter was instructed to “kill and eat”.  Three times this request was made and three times Peter replied that he had never eaten any unclean thing.  Each time he said that, the Lord said “What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common”.

ペテロは、この幻が何を意味するのかわかりませんでした。思案していると、何人かの使いが彼の家にやってきて、ユダヤ人ではないコルネリウスという人を教えに行くようにと誘いました。幻を見たばかりのペテロは、使者たちと一緒に行きました。

Peter was not sure what the meaning of this vision was.  As he was pondering about it, some messengers arrived at his house and invited him to come to teach a man named Cornelius, who was not Jewish.  Having just seen the vision, Peter went with the messengers.  

コルネリウスの家に着くと、コルネリウスはペテロを歓迎し、「神の命じられたことをすべて聞くために」集まったのだと言いました。ペテロはそのとき、幻の意味を理解したのです。それは、福音はすべての人に宣べ伝えられるべきものであり、ユダヤ人が一般的なもの、あるいは汚れたものとみなしている人たちにも宣べ伝えられるべきものである、という意味でした。

When he arrived at the home of Cornelius, Cornelius welcomed him and said that they had all gathered there “to hear all things that are commanded of God”.  Peter then understood the meaning of the vision.  It meant that the gospel was to be preached to everyone, even those whom the Jewish people regarded as common or unclean.

私たちの時代には、世界中のほとんどすべての国で、天父の娘や息子たちに福音が宣べ伝えられているのを目にします。福音には「特別な人種」も「選ばれた人々」もいません。誰もが神に愛された息子や娘なのです。

In our own dispensation, we can see how the gospel is being preached to the daughters and sons of Heavenly Father in almost every country in the world.  There is no “special race” or “reserved people” in the gospel.  Everyone is a beloved son or daughter of God.  

地球上のどこに住んでいようと、福音は同じです。誰もが福音を聞く機会があります。だれもがバプテスマを受ける機会があります。誰もが神殿の祝福を受ける機会があります。

No matter where we live on the earth, the gospel is the same.  Everyone has the opportunity the hear the gospel.  Everyone has the opportunity to be baptized.  Everyone has the opportunity to receive all the blessings of the Temple.

唯一の条件は、私たち自身の行動です。信仰を持ち、悔い改め、すべての戒めを守るなら、私たちは “主に受け入れられます”。

The only condition is our own behavior.  If we have faith, if we repent, if we keep all of the commandments, we are “accepted with him”.

新しい週が始まります。私たちは神の前では皆平等であることを心に留めて過ごしましょう。言語が何であろうと、どこに住んでいようと、救いの祝福を受ける機会は皆同じです。私たちは、皆兄弟姉妹であり、優しさと尊敬と愛をもって互いに接するべきであることを忘れないようにしましょう。

As we go through this next week, let’s remember that we are all equal before God.  We all have the same opportunities to receive the blessings of salvation, no matter what language we speak, or where we live.  Let’s remember that we really are all brothers and sisters and that we should treat each other with kindness, respect, and love.
