にもかかわらず、主なる神は私たちの弱点を示される。それは、このようなことを行う力が私たちにあ るのは、神の恵みと人の子らに対する神の大いなるへりくだりによるということを、わたしたちに分か らせるためである。ヤコブ章4:7
Nevertheless, the Lord God showeth us our weakness that we may know that it is by his grace, and his great condescensions unto the children of men, that we have power to do these things. Jacob 4:7
This verse is from Jacob’s teachings to the Nephites. It also applies to us today.
この聖句はヤコブがニーファイ人を教えたものです。その教えは今日の私たちにも当てはまります。
Jacob explains to us that he can only write a few words on the plates. He tells us it is very difficult to write on the plates, so only the most important things can be written.
ヤコブは版には限られた言葉しか書けないと説明しています。彼は版の上に書き込むのは難しいので最 も重要な事柄しか残せないと述べています。
He also tells us why he and the other prophets work so hard to write a few things on the Plates. Jacob teaches us that he writes a few things to give his children and the other Church members knowledge about the gospel.
また彼や預言者らがその版の上に少しの記録を残すのに何故そんなに一生懸命に働いたのか述べていま す。ヤコブは福音についていくらかの知識を子供や教会の会員に残すため記録するのだと教えていま す。
Most importantly, he says that he and the other prophets write so that everyone will know that they knew about Jesus Christ many hundreds of years before Christ came to earth. Because these things that are written on the plates are very important, Jacob tells us that “we search the prophets”. By “searching the prophets”, or in other words, studying the scriptures, Jacob could learn about Jesus Christ and could have greater faith.
最も大切なことは、キリストが地上に来られる数百年前にすべての人がイエス・キリストについて知る よう彼や預言者が書き残すのだと述べています。その版に書かれた事柄は非常に大切なのでヤコブは 「わたしたちは預言者の書を調べている」と述べています。「預言者の書を調べることで」また別の言 い方をすれば、聖文を学ぶことでヤコブはイエス・キリストについて学び、より強い信仰を持つことが 出来たのです。
Like Jacob, we have the opportunity to “search the prophets” today. We do not have the Brass Plates or the original Plates of Nephi, but we do have the Bible, the Book of Mormon, the Doctrine & Covenants, and the Pearl of Great Price. We also have the General Conference talks, which we regard as scripture.
ヤコブのように今日私たちには「預言者の書を調べる」機会があります。真鍮版やニーファイの現版が 私たちにはありませんが、聖書やモルモン書、教義と聖約、高価なる真珠があります。他にも聖典の言 葉と見なされる総大会のお話しがあります。
And just like Jacob, as we study the scriptures, we can have personal revelation, “obtain a hope”, and strengthen our faith.
ヤコブのように聖典を学ぶとき私たちも個人の啓示を受け「希望を抱き」信仰を強めることが出来ま す。
However, studying the scriptures does not mean that we will not have challenges and trials in this life. Jacob reminds of this when he says, “the Lord God showeth unto us our weakness”.
しかし聖典を学ぶことは人生においてチャレンジや試練を受けないということではありません。ヤコブ は「主なる神は私たちの弱点を示される」時にそのことを思い起こしています。
Some people ask the question, “why do bad things happen to good people?” They make the mistake of assuming that, if you keep the commandments, you will never have any trials.
「どうしてよい人に悪いことが起こるのか」と尋ねる人がいます。彼らは戒めを守っていると何も試練 が起きないという思い込みをしています。
We know that it is through trials and challenges that we grow in our faith in Jesus Christ. It is through trials and challenges that we are able to learn important lessons during this life. It is through trials and challenges that “the Lord God showeth unto us our weakness”.
私たちは試練やチャレンジを通してイエス・キリストへの信仰が成長することを知っています。試練や チャレンジを通して人生で大切なレッスンを学ぶことが出来ます。試練やチャレンジを通して「主なる 神は私たちの弱点を示される」のです。
Having weakness does not mean that we are bad people. It does not mean that we are not keeping the commandments. It does not mean that the Lord does not love us.
弱点があるということは悪い人間だということではありません。また戒めを守っていないとか、主に愛 されていないということでもありません。
It means that we are given the opportunity to learn from those weaknesses. It means that we are given the opportunity to grow. It means that we are given the opportunity to draw closer to our Savior.
それはむしろ私たちはその弱点を通して学ぶ機会があるということです。成長し、救い主に近づける機 会があるということです。
Having weakness is a reminder to us that “we may know that it is by his grace, and his great condescensions unto the children of men”, that we are able to repent, to grow, to learn.
弱点があるということは私たちが悔い改め、成長し、学ぶよう「神の恵みと人の子らに対する神の大い なるへりくだりによるということがわかるよう」わたしたちに思い起こさせることなのです。
As we go through this next week, let’s remember that even though we all have weaknesses, Heavenly Father loves each one of us. He wants each one of us to return to him. He wants to help us, to guide us, to bless us.
私たちはだれでも弱点がありますが天父は私たち一人一人を愛しておられることを忘れずこの新しい週 を過ごしましょう。天父は私たちがみもとに戻ることを望んでおられるのです。私たちを助け、導き、 祝福したいと望んでおられるのです。
