But when Jesus perceived their thoughts, he answering said unto them, What reason ye in your hearts?  Whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Rise up and walk?

Luke 5:22-23

人々を教え始められたイエスは、しばしば大きな癒しの奇跡を行われました。これでみんな幸せになれると思われました。しかし、ユダヤ人の指導者の中には、主の神権の力に腹を立てた者もいました。彼らは主に何かを言わせて捕まえるようと絶えずその方法を探していました。

As Jesus began teaching the people, he often performed great miracles of healing.  It would seem like this would make everyone happy.  However, there were some of the Jewish leaders who resented his priesthood power.  They continually looked for ways to trap him or make him say something that would allow them to arrest him.

ある日、救い主は大勢の群衆を教えておられました。足なえの男が、癒されることを願って友人に連れて来られました。群衆は非常に多かったので、救い主にたどり着くことができませんでした。それで、彼らは建物の屋根に上がり、瓦をはいで、友人をイエスのいる場所に降ろしました。

One day, the Savior was teaching a large crowd.  A man who was unable to walk was brought to the meeting by his friends, hoping to be healed.  The crowd was so large that they could not get to the Savior.  So, they went up on the roof of the building, removed some of the roofing material, and lowered their friend down to where Jesus was.

イエスは彼らの信仰を見て、その人を癒すだけで十分だとご存知でした。イエスは、「起きて歩きなさい」と言う代わりに、「あなたの罪は赦された」と言われました。

Jesus saw their faith and knew that it was sufficient for him to heal the man.  Instead of saying, “Rise up and walk”, Jesus said, “Thy sins be forgiven thee”. 

これは、ユダヤ人の指導者によって冒涜と見なされました。彼らは、神だけが罪を赦すことができると知っていたからです。彼らは、この邪悪な男は自分を神と同等にしていると考えました。

This was considered as blasphemy by the Jewish leaders.  They said to themselves that only God can forgive sins.  This wicked man is making himself equal with God.  

確かに、それは間違ってはいません。罪を赦すことができるのは神だけです。そして、イエスは自分自身を神と同等にしていました。イエスは本当に神の子であり、罪を赦す力と権威を持っていました。

Actually, they were correct.  It is only God who can forgive sin.  And Jesus was making himself equal with God.  That is because he truly is the Son of God.  He did have the power and authority to forgive sins.  

救い主は彼らの思いを見抜き、興味深い対応をされました。救い主は尋ねられました。

The Savior understood their thoughts and made an interesting response to them.  The Savior asked, “Is it easier to say your sins are forgiven, or is it easier to say rise up and walk?”

ユダヤ人の指導者たちは、何も答えることができませんでした。 彼らは、これらのどれも行う力がないことを知っていました。

The Jewish leaders could not make any reply with any words at all.  They knew that they had no power to do either of those things.  

救い主はそして静かに、癒す力と罪を赦す権能の両方を持っていることを示されました。主はただ「起きよ、床を取り上げ家に帰れ」と言われました。

The Savior then quietly demonstrated that he did have both the power to heal and the authority to forgive sins.  He simply said, “Arise, and take up thy couch, and to into thine house”.

ユダヤ人の指導者たちは、イエス・キリストを約束されたメシアとして受け入れることをまだ望んでいませんでした。彼らは「今日は驚くべきことを見た」としか言えませんでした。

The Jewish leaders were still unwilling to accept Jesus Christ as the promised Messiah.  They could only say, “We have seen strange things today”.  

私たちも人生で何度も「驚くべきこと」を見てきました。主の優しい愛に満ちた憐れみは、日常生活の些細で簡単なことの中にあります。私たちは祈りの答えを受け、聖霊から導きを受け、主の御霊を感じます。救い主イエス・キリストについての証を持っていない人々は、これらすべてを「驚くべきこと」と呼ぶのでしょう。

Many times in our own lives, we have “seen strange things”.  We see the tender mercies of the Lord is the small and simple things of our daily life.  We receive answers to prayers, we receive guidance from the Holy Ghost, we feel the Spirit of the Lord.  All of these could be called “strange things” by those who do not have a testimony of our Savior Jesus Christ.

しかし、私たちはこれらのことを驚くべきことだとは考えていません。それが、私たちを助け、私たちの生活を祝福するために遣わされた、愛に満ちた天の御父の優しい憐れみであることを知っています。私たちは救い主がすべての力と権能をお持ちであることを知っています。心から悔い改める人の罪を赦してくださることを知っています。私たちは主が病人を癒せることを知っています。

We, however, do not look at these things as being strange.  We know that they are the tender mercies of a loving Father in Heaven, sent to help us and to bless our lives.  We know that the Savior has all power and authority.  We know that he can forgive the sins of those who sincerely repent.  We know that he can heal the sick.

新しい週が始まります。救い主はこの世でも永遠でもすべての力と権能をお持ちであることを覚えて過ごしましょう。起こる「驚くべきこと」は、しばしば主の優しい憐れみであることを覚えていましょう。私たちを導くために召された神権指導者のことを進んで信じ，あら探しをしないことを心に留めましょう。私たちが毎日経験する「驚くべきこと」すべてを、天父に感謝することを忘れないでください。

As we go through this next week, let’s remember that the Savior does have all power and authority, in this world and in the eternities.  Let’s remember that the “strange things” that happen are often the tender mercies of the Lord.  Let’s remember to be willing to believe and not to find fault with those priesthood leaders that have been appointed to guide us.  Let’s remember to give thanks to Heavenly Father for all those “strange things” that we receive each day.
