むしろあなたがたは忍耐し、いつの日かあらゆる苦難を離れて休めるという確固とした望みをもってそれらの苦難に耐えるように、あなたがたに勧める。アルマ章３４：４１
But that ye have patience, and bear with those afflictions, with a firm hope that ye shall one day rest from all your afflictions. Alma 34:41
This scripture is from the time that Alma and Amulek and others were teaching the poor people of the Zoramites. Those people had worked hard to build the church buildings that the Zoramites used. However, once the buildings were finished, they were not allowed to use them because they had no money.
この聖句はアルマやアミュレクたちが貧しいゾーラム人に教えていた時に記録されたものです。人々はゾーラム人が使う教会堂を建てるため熱心に働きました。しかし、ひとたび建築が終わると彼らはお金がないという理由で教会堂を使わせてもらえませんでした。
Alma tried to teach the rich Zoramites about the gospel, but they would not listen. Many of these poor people came to Alma and asked what they should do. They wanted to worship God, but they were not allowed to use the churches.
アルマは裕福なゾーラム人に福音を教えようとしましたが聞く耳を持っていませんでした。貧しい多くの人々がアルマのところにやって来てどうしたらよいか尋ねました。彼らは神を礼拝したいのに教会を使わせてもらえなかったのです。
Alma taught them a great lesson on faith, as recorded in the 32nd chapter of Alma. He also taught them that they could worship God any place. Even though they were not allowed to use the churches, they could still worship God properly.
アルマ書32章に記録されているように、アルマは信仰についてすばらしいレッスンを教えました。彼はまたどこにいても神を礼拝することが出来ると教えました。またたとえ彼らは教会堂を使わせてもらえなくとも正しい方法で神を礼拝することが出来たのです。
After Alma taught them these principles, Amulek taught them some additional things. He taught them that this life is the time for men to prepare to meet God. He taught them that they must use their time wisely during this life. He taught them that they should pray always.
アルマがこれらの原則を教えた後アミュレクはもう少し教えを付け加えました。この世は人が神に会う用意をするときであると教えました。人はこの世にいる間、時間を有効に使うべきであり、また常に祈るべきだと教えました。
Finally, Amulek taught them they must be patient during times of trial. Those poor people had many trials and difficulties. They were very poor. They were not allowed to use the churches because they were poor. They were looked down upon by the rich Zoramites.
最後にアミュレクは試練に会うとき忍耐強くなければいけないと教えました。その貧しい人々は多くの試練や苦難に会っていました。彼らはとても貧しいでした。貧しいという理由で教会堂を使わせてもらえなかったのです。彼らは裕福なゾーラム人から見下されていたのです。
Amulek taught them, and teaches us, that the Lord expects us to have patience. No one goes through this life without trials. No one goes through this life without any difficulties or hardships. No one goes through this life without any sorrow.
アミュレクは彼らや私たちに主は私たちに忍耐を持つように望んでおられると教えました。試練を経験しない人生など誰一人としていません。苦難や困難を経験しない人もいません。悲しみを経験しない人もいません。
This is why faith is so important.
これが信仰が大切な理由なのです。
Without faith in Jesus Christ and in the great plan of salvation, this life, with all its hardships and trials, would be a very dark and depressing place. Without faith, there is no hope. Without faith, there is only sadness and misery.
イエス・キリストと偉大な救いの計画への信仰がなければ、苦難や試練の多いこの世はとても暗く落胆するところでしかありません。
With faith in the atonement of Jesus Christ, this life is full of hope. With faith, we can bear our trials with patience. With faith, life is full of light and joy.
イエス・キリストの贖いへの信仰のおかげでこの世は希望に満ちているのです。信仰によって私たちは試練を忍耐を持って耐えることが出来るのです。信仰のおかげで人生は光と喜びに満ちているのです。
We all suffer from trials and hardships. We all have our own difficulties. We all experience sorrow and sadness. That is why this life is called a time of trial and testing.
私たちは誰もが試練や苦難から苦しみを受けます。私たちはそれぞれ困難を抱えていますし悲しみも経験します。ですからこの世は試しの時と呼ばれているのです。
But with faith in Jesus Christ, we can keep moving forward. With faith in Jesus Christ, we can receive the strength to carry our burdens. With faith in Jesus Christ, we can have joy even during times of trial.
しかしイエス・キリストへの信仰によって私たちは前進し続けれるのです。イエス・キリストへの信仰によって私たちは重荷を背負う力を受けるのです。イエス・キリストへの信仰によって私たちは試練の中でも喜びを持てるのです。
As we begin this new year, let us resolve to go forward with faith in our Savior. Let us resolve to find joy and happiness even in times of trial. Let us resolve to make this the best year ever.
新しい年が始まる今、救い主に信仰を持って前進すると決意しましょう。試練の時でも喜びと幸せを見出すと決意しましょう。この年を最高の年にすると決意しましょう。
