イエスはますます知恵が加わり、背たけも伸び、そして神と人から愛された。 ルカ２：５２

And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.  Luke 2:52

新約聖書の学習が始まりました。そこでは、若い頃の救い主の出来事について学びます。

As we begin our study of the New Testament, we learn about various events in the early life of the Savior. 

たとえば、マタイ 2 章、ルカ 1 章、ルカ 2 章は、救い主の誕生にまつわる出来事について教えています。新しい子羊が生まれる春の時期、天使が野原にいた羊飼いを訪れたことについて学びます。新しい子羊が生まれる時期に神の子羊がお生まれになったのは、象徴的に興味深いことです。

For example, most of Matthew 2, Luke 1, and Luke 2 teach us about the events surrounding the birth of the Savior.  We learn about the angelic visitations to the shepherds who were out in the fields during the springtime, when the new lambs are born.  It is interesting symbolically that the Lamb of God was born at the time of year when new lambs are born.

羊飼いたちが生まれたばかりの救い主に会うために町に行ったことがわかります。「彼らに会った上で、この子について自分たちに告げ知された事を、人々に伝えた」。 (ルカ 2:17)。

We learn that the shepherds went into the town, to see the newly born Messiah.  Once they had seen him, they “made know abroad the sayings which was told them concerning this child”. (Luke 2:17).

約2年後、東洋の賢者が幼い子供を訪ねてきたことがわかります。彼らは救い主へと導く新しい星を追っていました。私たちも自分の生活の中で、救い主を見つけるために「星をたどる」ことができます。私たちにとって星は、聖典、総大会のメッセージ、そして心からの祈りです。これらすべてのことは、救い主を見つけるように私たちを導きます。

We learn that about two years later, wise men from the East came to visit the young child.  They had followed the new star which led them to the Messiah.  In our own lives, we can “follow the star” to find the Savior.  For us, the star can be the scriptures, the General Conference messages, and our own sincere prayers.  All these things will lead us to find the Messiah.

賢者たちは夢の中で、ヘロデのところに帰らず、自分の国に帰るようにと警告されていたことがわかります。彼らがどこの国から来たのかはわかりませんが、ただ「東から」来たということだけです。

We learn that the wise men were warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, but to return to their own country.  We don’t know what country they came from, only that they came “from the East”.

ヨセフは夢の中で、マリアと幼子を連れてベツレヘムを出てエジプトに行くようにと警告されました。ヘロデは、賢者たちが去ったことを知って非常に怒りました。彼は、新しい「ユダヤ人の王」を殺そうと、ベツレヘムの 2 歳以下の子供たちをすべて殺しました。

Joseph was warned in a dream to flee out of Bethlehem with Mary and the baby and to go into Egypt.  Herod was very angry when he found out that the wise men had left.  He killed all the children in Bethlehem who were two years old or younger, trying to kill the new “King of the Jews”.

ヘロデが死んだ後、天使がヨセフに現れ、イスラエルに戻る時が来たと告げました。しかし、ヨセフは家族を連れてベツレヘムに戻ることはありませんでした。代わりに、彼らは生活のためにナザレに行きました。これは、一部のユダヤ人指導者を混乱させました。 イエスはベツレヘム出身ではなかったので、イエスは救い主ではないと彼らは考えました。

After Herod was dead, an angel appeared to Joseph and told him it was time to go back to Israel.  When Joseph returned, he did not take his family back to Bethlehem.  Instead, they went to Nazareth to live.  This confused some of the Jewish leaders.  It made them think that Jesus could not be the Messiah, since he was not from Bethlehem.  

旧約聖書の研究で、預言者ミカが救い主がベツレヘムで生まれると預言したことを学びました。この予言は、ユダヤ人指導者たちによく知られていました。ヘロデが救い主はどこで生まれたかと尋ねたとき、ユダヤ人指導者たちはすぐに、救い主はベツレヘムで生まれると答えました。

In our study of the Old Testament, we learned that the prophet Micah prophesied that the Messiah would be born in Bethlehem.  This prophecy was well-known by the Jewish leaders.  When Herod asked where the Messiah be born, the Jewish leaders immediately told him that the Savior would be born in Bethlehem.

また、ルカ2章では、イエスが神殿でユダヤ人の学者たちに教えていたことが記録されています。それらのユダヤ人の学者たちは、生涯にわたって聖典を研究し、聖典の意味を理解していると考えていました。しかし、ここには12歳の少年がいて、これまで聞いたことのないことを彼らに教えていました。ルカは、「聞く人々はみな、イエスの賢さやその答えに驚嘆していた」と述べています。

We also learn in the second chapter of Luke that Jesus was in the Temple, teaching the Jewish scholars.  Those Jewish scholars had studied the scriptures for their entire lives and thought that they understood the meaning of the scriptures.  Yet, here was a young 12 year old boy, teaching them things they had never heard of before.  Luke says, “And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers”.

救い主の両親も驚きました。しかし、イエスはただこう答えました。「私は父の家にいる（英文では父の用向きを行う）はず」だと。

His parents were also astonished, but Jesus simply said, “I must be about my Father’s business”.

マタイとルカによって記録されたこれらのいくつかの出来事以外には、救い主の初期の人生についての情報はほとんどありません。ルカは、救い主の生涯の初期の部分を要約して、主はますます知恵が加わり、神から愛されたと述べています。

We have very little information about the Savior’s early life, other than these few events recorded by Matthew and by Luke.  Luke summarizes the early part of the Savior’s life by simply saying that the Lord increased in wisdom and in favor with God.

新しい週が始まります。イエスの模範に従い、知恵を増し、神に愛されるように最善を尽くしましょう。主のすべての戒めを守るために最善を尽くす決意をしましょう。もっと喜んで他の人に奉仕しましょう。イエス・キリストの福音について喜んで他の人に教えましょう。そして最も重要なことですが、私たちが天父のみ心を行えますように。

As we go through this next week, let’s follow the example of Jesus, and do our best to increase in wisdom and in favor with God.  Let’s resolve to do our best to keep all the commandments of the Lord.  Let’s be more willing to serve others.  Let’s be willing to teach others about the gospel of Jesus Christ.  Most importantly, let’s all be about our Father’s business.
