This year, we will study the most important book in the world, The Book of Mormon, Another Testament of Jesus Christ.

今年、私たちはこの世で最も重要な本であるモルモン書、イエス・キリストのもう一つの証を勉強します。

The Book of Mormon is a great miracle.  Think of all the trials and troubles the ancient Nephite prophets suffered in order to preserve their prophecies and counsel.  Think of how difficult it was to write on metal plates. No spell checker, no “cut and paste”, no delete key. It took hours and hours of painstaking work to inscribe a few pages of scripture on those plates.

モルモン書は大いなる奇跡です。古代のニーファイ人の預言者が預言や勧告を守るために受けたすべての試練と苦難を考えてみてください。金属板に書き込むことがどれほど難しいか考えてみてください。スペルチェッカーや「コピペ」、削除キーも無かったのです。それらの版に数ページの聖典を刻み込むのに何時間も骨の折れる作業が必要でした。

Think of all the trials and troubles the Prophet Joseph Smith suffered as he labored to bring The Book of Mormon to us.  Think of all the persecutions he suffered during the translation process. Think of the sacrifices of the early Saints, to get the money to pay for the printing and publication of The Book of Mormon.

預言者ジョセフスミスがモルモン書を世に出すために受けた試練と苦難について考えてみてください。翻訳作業中に彼が受けたすべての迫害を考えてみてください。モルモン書の印刷と出版のためお金を払うために初期の聖徒たちが払った犠牲を考えてみてください。

Think about the words of the Prophet Joseph Smith, that:

We have been encouraged by modern day prophets and apostles to make The Book of Mormon part of our daily scripture study and to read from it every day.

As we start this new year, and with the focus of our study this year being The Book of Mormon, today is a good day to start reading.  Today is a good day to start receiving the blessings that come from reading The Book of Mormon. Today is a good day to draw nearer to God.

新しい年が始まることと、今年の福音学習のテーマがモルモン書ということで、今日が読み始める良い日です。今日がモルモン書を読んで得られる祝福を受け始める良い日です。今日が神により近づく良い日です。

There are amazing testimonies, prophecies, and counsel in The Book of Mormon.  

モルモン書には驚くような証や預言、勧告があります。

The Book of Mormon story encompasses about 1,000 years of history.  There were times when the people were righteous and blessed. For example, think of Lehi having the courage to take his family out into the wilderness, not knowing where they were going.  Think of the courage to Nephi is obtaining the Plates of Brass from Laban. Think of the example of Alma and Amulek in the city of Ammonihah. Think of the example of the 2,000 stripling warriors.

モルモン書の物語は約千年の歴史が網羅されています。人々が正しく祝福を受けていた時期があります。たとえばリーハイが家族を勇気をもって何処へ行くのか分からないまま荒れ野に連れて行った話を考えてみてください。ニーファイがレーバンから真鍮版を手に入れた勇気を考えてみてください。アモナイハの町でのアルマとアミュレクの模範を考えてみてください。二千人の若い兵士の模範を考えてみてください。

There were also times when the people were wicked.  There is roughly a 230 year period when the Nephites fell into wickedness and had nothing to write about on the plates.  At the end of their history, the Nephites fell into such wickedness that they were all destroyed.

人々が邪悪であった時期もあります。ニーファイ人が邪悪に陥り版に何も書き残すことが無かった期間がおよそ230年あります。彼らの歴史が終わるころには、ニーファイ人はひどく邪悪な民になりその結果滅ぼされてしまいました。

The most important part of The Book of Mormon is the account of the Resurrected Lord visiting the people of Nephi and teaching them.  This account teaches us that the Lord loves all his children, no matter where they live in the world. The Book of Mormon truly is another testament of Jesus Christ.

モルモン書の最も重要な部分は、復活された主がニーファイ人を訪れ彼らを教えられたことの記述です。この記述は地上のどこに住んでいようと主はすべての神の子供を愛しておられることを教えています。モルモン書は確かにイエス・キリストのもう一つの証しです。

As we begin this new year, let’s commit to reading from The Book of Mormon every day.  Let’s commit to studying it teachings and counsel. Let’s commit to following the principles of the gospel that are taught.  Let’s commit to become better followers of our Savior Jesus Christ.

新しい年を迎え、毎日モルモン書を読むと決心しましょう。その教えと勧告を研究し学ぶよう決心しましょう。教えている福音の原則に従うと決心しましょう。私たち救い主イエス・キリストのより良い従者となる決心をしましょう。
