Wherefore, I the Lord, knowing the calamity which should come upon the inhabitants of the earth, called upon my servant Joseph Smith, Jun., and spake unto him from heaven, and gave him commandments. Doctrine & Covenants 1:17
This is a most appropriate scripture to begin the new year. This scripture declares that the Lord called the Prophet Joseph Smith and spoke to him. He gave Joseph commandments. The Prophet Joseph Smith is the great prophet of the restoration.
これは新年を始めるにあたり最もふさわしい聖句です。この聖句は、主が預言者ジョセフ・スミスを選ばれ、彼に語られたことを宣言しています。主はジョセフに戒めを与えられました。預言者ジョセフ・スミスは回復の偉大な預言者です。
The book of Doctrine & Covenants contains latter-day revelation, as given to the Prophet Joseph Smith. It is filled with instructions and commandments to help us through our journey here on earth. It is one of the standard works of the Church.
教義と聖約には、預言者ジョセフ・スミスに与えられたように、末日の啓示が含まれています。それは私たちがこの地上での旅を助けるための教えと戒めで満たされています。それは教会の標準聖典の一つです。
Section 1 was not the first revelation received, chronologically. It was given in November of 1831. There had been many revelations already received by that time. Section 2 was actually the first revelation contained in the Doctrine & Covenants. It was from the message delivered by Moroni when he first visited Joseph and told him about the plates.

In November of 1831, at a conference of the Church in Hiram Ohio, it was decided to publish the various commandments and revelations that had already been received. The Lord gave this revelation to the Church as the preface to the book of commandments (see verse 6).

In this first section of the Doctrine & Covenants, the Lord states that the “voice of warning shall be unto all people”. The “voice of warning” is the message of the gospel, carried to all the world by the Lord’s missionaries.
教義と聖約のこの章で、主は「警告の声はすべての民に及ぶ」と述べておられます。「警告の声」とは、主の宣教師によって世界中に伝えられた福音のメッセージのことです。
The Lord says that the work will go forth and that “none shall stay them”. Persecution and mobs did not stop the work of the Lord. The Corona virus will not stop the work of the Lord. In verse 7, speaking about the scriptures, the Lord says, “for what I the Lord have decreed in them shall all be fulfilled”.
主は、み業が進み、「彼らをとどめる者はいない」と述べておられます。迫害と暴徒が主のみ業を止めることはありませんでした。コロナウイルスが主のみ業を止めることはありません。7節で、主は聖典について「主なるわたしがこれらの中で告げたことは成就するからである」と述べておられます。
The Prophet Joseph Smith was called and chosen by the Lord to open this last great dispensation. He suffered great persecution and hardships. But he was faithful and fulfilled all the commandments of the Lord.
この最後の大いなる神権時代を始めるために、預言者ジョセフ・スミスは主によって召され、選ばれました。 彼は大きな迫害と苦難に見舞われました。 しかし、彼は忠実であり、主のすべての戒めを守りました。
By the power of God, he translated the ancient Nephite record to give us the Book of Mormon, Another Testament of Jesus Christ. He restored the knowledge of the Godhead. He received revelation from heaven, showing that God does still speak to chosen prophets on the earth.

He restored the keys and authority of the priesthood. He dedicated two temples, wherein vital ordinances of eternal salvation can be administered. He ordained apostles and sent them forth to preach the gospel to all nations. He restored the ordinances of the temple and the sealing power of the priesthood.

His life was filled with trials and persecution, from the time of the First Vision to his martyrdom in Carthage. To close his ministry and to seal his testimony, he shed his own life’s blood.

As we begin this new year and our study of the Doctrine & Covenants, let’s remember the great debt we owe to the Prophet Joseph Smith. Let’s remember the eternal blessings that come to us from his efforts. Let’s remember the sacrifices that he was called on to make to restore the gospel of Jesus Christ. Let’s remember the great Prophet.
新らしい年が始まりました。教義と聖約の研究を始めるにあたり、私たちが預言者ジョセフ・スミスに負っている大きな負債のことを思い起こしましょう。彼の努力から私たちにもたらされる永遠の祝福を思い起こしましょう。イエス・キリストの福音を回復するために彼が求められた犠牲を心にとめ、この偉大な預言者のことを忘れないようにしましょう。
