それゆえ、善を行うことに疲れ果ててはならない。あなたがたは一つの大いなる業の基を据えつつあるからである。そして、小さなことから大いなることが生じるのである。 教義と聖約６４：３３
Wherefore, be not weary in well-doing, for ye are laying the foundation of a great work. And out of small things proceedeth that which is great. Doctrine and Covenants 64:33
This scripture teaches us a great lesson. It gives us encouragement. It reminds us that even the small things that we do can help someone.
この聖句は私たちにすばらしい教えと、また励ましを与えてくれます。小さなことでも誰かを助けることができることを思い起こさせてくれます。
Sometimes we think that we are unimportant. We think that our calling is not very important. We think that nothing we do is very important.
時折、私たちは自分が重要ではないとか自分の責任は重要でないと考えてしまいます。自分のすることが何も重要ではないと思ったりもします。
This kind of thinking leads to discouragement. This is one of the tricks that Satan uses. He wants us to feel unimportant. He wants us to feel like nothing we do has any value.
このような考えは落胆につながります。これはサタンが使うたくらみなのです。彼は私たちに自分は重要ではないと感じさせたいのです。彼は私たちがすることには何も価値がないと思わせたいのです。
But in this scripture, the Lord teaches us that everything we do is important. Everything we do helps move this great work forward. Even the small things have value.
しかしこの聖典では私たちのなすことすべてが重要であると教えています。私たちの行いすべてがこの偉大な業を推し進める手助けになっているのです。たとえ小さなことですら価値があるのです。
Maybe our only calling is to teach a Primary class, or to be a home teacher, or to serve on a Relief Society committee, or to lead the music, or any other “small” calling. The truth is that there are no “small” callings in the Church. Every calling, no matter how “small” it may appear to us, is an opportunity to serve.
唯一の教会の責任がプライマリーで教えることであれ、ホームティーチャーや、扶助教会の委員会で働くこと、音楽の指揮や他のどのような小さな責任であってもです。教会には「小さな」責任など無いというのが真理なのです。私たちには小さく見えてもすべての責任が（神に）奉仕する機会なのです。
The Lord does not say in this scripture that only the Bishop is important. The Lord does not say that only the Relief Society president is important. The Lord does not even say that only the Prophet is important.
主はこの聖句でビショップだけが重要だとは言っていませんし、扶助教会会長だけが重要だとも言っていません。主は預言者だけが重要だとも言っていません。
The Lord says that every “small” thing that we do helps. Every kind word we give to someone, every smile, every handshake, every telephone call, every visit, is important.
主は私たちのなす「小さな」こと全てが助けになると言っておられます。だれかにかけるすべての親切な言葉、すべての笑顔、すべての握手、すべての電話連絡、すべての訪問などが重要なのです。
The Lord’s work does not move forward by great miracles happening. It moves forward by the “small” acts of each of us. It moves forward with every visiting teaching visit. It moves forward by every class lesson that is taught. It moves forward by every prayer that is said.
主の業は大きな奇跡によって前進するのではありません。私たち一人一人の「小さな」行いによって前進するのです。すべての家庭訪問やすべてのクラスレッスンによって、またすべての祈りによって前進するのです。
We can accomplish “great” things just by continuing to do the “small” things that we can do. This is the Lord’s work. Nothing will stop it. When the sun rises in the morning, the world slowly fills with light. So it is in the work of the Lord. As all the “small” things are done, the light of the gospel begins to fill the whole world.
私たちにできる「小さな」ことがらを続けて行うことによってのみ「偉大な」ことを成し遂げることができるのです。これが主のみ業なのです。何者もそれを止めることはできないのです。朝、太陽が昇るとき世界はゆっくりと光に包まれていきます。主のみ業もそのように起こるのです。すべての「小さな」ことが成し遂げられることで世界中が福音の光で満たされていくのです。
May we renew our efforts this week to do “small” things. May we do our best to serve in our callings. May we do as much as we can to help others, to be a good friend, to be kind.
今週も「小さな」ことがらを精一杯やろうという気持ちを新たにし、教会の責任に全力を尽くそうではありませんか。他人に手を差し伸べようと最善をつくし、よい友達や親切でありましょう。
I know that as we continue to do the “small” things that we can, we will truly be helping lay the “foundation of a great work”. I know that these things are true. I know that our efforts are recorded in Heaven. I know that great blessing will come to us for our simple “small” things.
私たちにできる「小さな」ことがらを続けて行うとき、確かに「大いなる業の基」を据える手助けをしているのです。それらのことが真実であると知っています。私たちの努力が天で記録されていることを知っています。私たちの簡素で「小さな」行いによって大いなる祝福が与えられることを知っています。
