また、あなたの必要とするあらゆる助けを神に叫び求めなさい。まことに、あなたの行うことはすべて、主のために行うようにしなさい。どこへ行くにも主にあって行くようにしなさい。まことに、あなたの思いを常に主に向けるようにしなさい。まことに、あなたの心の愛情をとこしえに主に向けるようにしなさい。アルマ３７：３６

Yea, cry unto God for all thy support; yea, let all thy doings be unto the Lord, and whithersoever thou goest let it be in the Lord; yea, let all thy thoughts be directed unto the Lord; yea, let the affections of thy heart be placed upon the Lord forever.  Alma 37:36

This scripture is from the counsel that Alma gave to his son Helaman.  It contains an important message for us in our day as well.

この聖句はアルマが息子ヒラマンへ与えた勧告の一つです。その中には今日の私たちにとっても大切なメッセージが含まれています。

Today, we often use the term “Christ-centered life”.  Alma did not use the term “Christ-centered life”, but that is exactly what his message is.  Alma teaches us that Jesus Christ should be the center of our lives, the center of our thoughts, and the center of our actions.

今日私たちはよく「キリストを中心にした生活」という表現をします。アルマは「キリストを中心にした生活」という表現は使いませんでしたが、それは正にアルマが教えているものです。アルマはイエス・キリストが私たちの生活や、思い、行動の中心であるべきだと教えました。

First, Alma teaches us that we need to pray.  We need to ask the Lord for the things that we need.  We do this by praying sincerely each and every day.  As we approach the Lord in prayer, we are able to express our needs and our hopes and our gratefulness for blessings received.

まず、アルマはお祈りする必要があると教えました。私たちは必要なことを主にお願いしなければなりません。毎日誠実に祈ることでそれを行います。祈りによって主に近づく時私たちは必要なこと、望むこと、受けている祝福に感謝の気持ちを表現します。

Next, Alma teaches us that we need to remember Jesus Christ in everything that we do.  This means that we must focus on Jesus Christ every day, not just on Sunday.

次にアルマは私たちが行うすべてにおいてイエス・キリストを覚えるように教えています。それは日曜日だけでなく毎日イエス・キリストを心にとめるべきだということです。

As we focus on Jesus Christ, our thoughts will be elevated.  As we focus on Jesus Christ, our actions will be more charitable.  As we focus on Jesus Christ, our words will be kinder.  As we focus on Jesus Christ, our thoughts will be purer.

イエス・キリストを心にとめるならば、私たちの思いは高められていくでしょう。私たちの行いはより慈悲深いものとなり、私たちはより思いやりある言葉を使うようになるでしょう。イエス・キリストを心にとめるならば、私たちの思いはより純粋で清いものとなるでしょう。

President Russell M. Nelson recently reported in General Conference that he had re-read every scripture that refers to Jesus Christ.  President Nelson said that he was a better man because of his efforts to focus on the Savior.  He encouraged each of us to read the same scriptures.  He promised us that our lives would be richer and we would feel closer to the Savior if we do.

ラッセルM ネルソン大管長は最近の総大会でイエス・キリストについて書かれている聖句をすべて読み直したと報告されました。ネルソン大管長は救い主を心にとめる努力をした結果、より良い人間になったと述べられました。彼は私たちにも同じ聖句を読むよう薦められました。そしてそうするならば私たちの人生は豊かで救い主をより近くに感ずるようになると約束されました。

As we direct our thoughts to Jesus Christ, we will be better able to resist the temptations of Satan.  We will have greater joy in our lives.  We will have greater peace in our lives.

心をイエス・キリストに向けるならば私たちはサタンの誘惑にもっと立ち向かえるようになるでしょう。毎日の生活により大きな喜びと平安を持てるようになるでしょう。

We are told in the Sermon on the Mount that we should store up treasures in Heaven, not treasures on earth.  Treasures on earth can be stolen.  They can be lost.  They can be damaged.  But treasures in Heaven will be with us always.  Making Jesus Christ the center of our lives helps up store up treasures in Heaven.

私たちはこの地上ではなく天に宝を蓄えるようにと「山上の垂訓」で言われています。地上の宝は盗まれたり無くなったりすることがあります。壊れることもあります。しかし天の宝はいつも私たちと共にあります。イエス・キリストを生活の中心とすることで私たちは天に宝を蓄えることが出来るのです。

As we draw closer to our Savior, our hearts will change, just as President Nelson taught us.  We will be able to see others in a new light.  We will be able to have an eternal perspective on the trials and problems of this life.  We will have greater faith in the Lord.

救い主に近くいることでネルソン大管長が教えられたように私たちの心は変わるのです。嫌だった人を違った目で見ることができるようになるでしょう。この世の試練や問題を永遠の見地で見ることが出来るようになるでしょう。そして主へより強い信仰を持つようになるでしょう。

When we make Jesus Christ and his teachings the center of our lives, we will begin to draw closer to him.  We will begin to have a more Christ-like attitude toward others.  We will begin to have greater charity.

イエス・キリストと主の教えを生活の中心とする時、私たちは主により近づいていくのです。他の人に対してもよりキリストのような特質を持って接することが出来き、より大きな慈愛を持つようになるでしょう。

As we go through this new week, let us let all our thoughts be directed unto the Lord.  Let us let all our doings be unto the Lord.  And let the affections of our heart be placed upon the Lord forever.  

この新しい週を過ごす時私たちの思いが主に導かれるものとなりますように。私たちのすべての行いが主のためでありますように。私たちの心の思いが永遠に主に向いていますように。

I know as we do this, we will feel our Savior’s love.  

そうするなら救い主の愛を感じることを私は知っています。
